7 Mennonite Children

Did the news mention if they were old order Mennonites? From what I understand the old order Mennonites don't use electricity so it might have been a candle or lantern that started the fire.
Heartbreaking for the family <sigh>

I don't think so. The newspaper article I read said the two oldest children were watching TV when the father left to start his rounds.

I do not think they were Mennonites. One man interviewed said they were not of his faith but they were neighbors and they help each other in times of trouble. I heard reported that the baby was found in the crib on the first floor and the others in bed on the second floor. That is what our local tv station reported last night and they were on the scene. I guess the story could change. You can find information on WGAL TV's web site.

This story broke my heart. So very very sad. Cannot even imagine what those parents are going through.

.

May those children rest in peace.

May those parents be given the strength they need to get through this tragedy.

I think that we on the web forget that we're in a public space where anyone can google our thoughts. While I think it's human nature to try and seek out explanations, I'd hate for someone suffering a tragic loss to read our speculations that they had killed 7 of their children.

I think it's pretty natural, especially a tragedy of this kind, to suspect foul play.

I thought one article said two of the kids were watchign tv....curious, what does mennonite have to do with this? (being in the thread title)

this ones says watching tv

Where I grew up in Iowa, there were a large number of Mennonite families in the area. While most drove horse and buggies and dressed in the traditional clothing, not all followed suit. We would sometimes see young members riding in cars or attending a movie. It is possible that this family did have some modern conveniences.

Wow, that is so sad. I could not imagine the pain and heartbreak of having to bury 7 of my 8 children and all at once:sad: They say that earth has no sorrow that heaven can't heal, but I'm sure they will never be the same:sad1:

OP here....can you just let it go.

I posted because it's such a tragedy. The passing of 7 children no matter what the circumstance is overwhelming.
I'm praying for the family regardless of the circumstance...

They interviewed the grandmother tonight and she did have a white bonnet on. It was sad when she said how much joy the children brought to their lives. The father wants to tear down the house and build a new one. It looked too bad to fix anyway.

Yes. It is heartbreaking and my thoughts are with the family.

I took a few minutes this morning to remind my kids about what to do in case of fire. I really had to stress not risking their own saftey to rescue the family pets. :sad1:

Absolutely devastating :sad2:. I cannot begin to imagine their heartache, grief and shock :sad1:. My heart and prayers go out to this poor family and community.
May these sweet angels rest in peace.

I agree.. I can't imagine how parents manage after the death of one child, let alone seven.. Truly heartbreaking..:sad1::sad1:

:scared1::scared1:

geez....this is all I posted....you read I have a theory in that?? I was commenting that I feel it is natural to suspect foul play (as a couple others said), especially after reading all the criminal sites, etc out there.

and no matter in any of that...message board.......

This story is just so sad. I can't imagine and hope I never have to know the feeling that poor family is going through.
What is fantastic, is how the community and surrounding areas are coming together to help. Numerous fundraisers and things to help out. It's amazing!
What is the most suckish and absolutely horrendous thing that could happen is the Westboro clan coming....http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/03/westboro_baptist_church_plans.html

Let me tell you, this is one county that probably won't take to kindly to them.
