We've only done SWDAS cruises so far. This year, our 7 day on the Fantasy is a "regular" sailing. I know there will be a Formal night, complete with photos. Will there also be a semi-formal night with photos? If so, any idea which night to expect it? Also, will the Pirate night be more like our SW day? Photos and pirate stuff during the day?

While I know people wear anything, for those that try to adhere to the formal or semi-formal theme, would you wear the same dress (ladies) or two different dresses? Or maybe a dress to formal night and pants to semi-formal night?

Formal night is always on the first sea day. Semi-formal is usually near the end of the cruise, but not on the last evening in our experience. It can vary.

Pirate is always the same. There are no activities during the day. People get dressed up when they get ready for diner.

On our last 7 night Fantasy I was in a Tuxedo for formal night and a suit for semi-formal. My wife was in a formal gown for formal night and a nice dress for semi-formal night. But we also really wanted to get the photos each evening in our "dress up" clothes. While you can wear anything you want, I'd base the decision on what evening photos you want. Do YOU want to have the same dress in each set of pictures, or would you be happier with two different outfits? (And do you have room in your luggage for extra dress/shoes/etc.)

Are there special pre-MDR photos for semi-formal night or Pirate night like there are for formal night?

There are different backdrops for formal/semi-formal/pirate night, and the photographers also come to your table in the MDR for extra photos on those nights instead of only taking pictures in the lobby.

Okay, thanks. So a person might at least like a different look on the top for the dinner shots.

We cruised the Fantasy over this past New Year's. This was the most formal cruise I've ever been on, with many people dressing up for 3 - 4 nights of the cruise. There was formal night, semi-formal night and New Year's, all nights in which a lot of people dressed up. But even on the other nights, many people were dressy. Pirate night was pirate night, of course. The photographers were in the dining room more than just one night, I remember.

I dressed up every night on our 8-day Fantasy over the summer - mostly summery dresses - but I had 2 long dresses - one for formal night and one for semi-formal night. Yes, I over-packed (but I had in-laws who were driving to the ship from where we live, so they could take our extra bag).

The dining rooms are often a bit chilly. You could do something like a long black dress with a fancy jacket on formal night and the same dress with a different jacket or wrap for semi. Change up accessories and it works

It sounds like you're interested in pictures, which is terrific. Formal night and Semi-Formal night are wonderful opportunities to get some nice, professional pictures taken. So, dress each night for the pictures, not the event.

Our first Disney cruise was for our 25th anniversary. We knew we wanted pictures to commemorate the occasion. So, for Formal night, I wore a tux and my wife wore an evening gown. The picture that was taken on the staircase of the Fantasy was phenomenal. We have it framed in our house and sent copies in that year's Christmas cards.

So, enjoy the opportunity to dress as you like for your pictures. This is, after all, your cruise.
