I'm right there with you on that one Andrew. If the £/$ rate stayed at this level there is absoutely no way we could go on this cruise, there is no way I could justify the cost even without having to pay any airfare

That is crazy......things have to get better......the only thing is, I heard a few sad stories today at work..........

No, I'm not with Obama, but did you watch the footage.......very inspirational day!!

Yes we watched on the news last night. I thing this guy certainly know how to say things infront of a camera and he sure is a good public speaker but it reamins to be seen on whether or not he's any good at politics and from my point of view whether or not he's any good at world politics

Not in my job but in our community. A guest teacher was telling me that her husband's business just went under and she can't get a teaching job. I think a lot of my colleagues are feeling the "pinch" and they're getting really cranky!

Well, you know how that goes......he did run a very professional, organized campaign, so that's a good sign........he does have a very uphill battle with the economy........

I know what you mean. Pauls business (the cafe) is really, really quiet. Since he went back after Xmas his daily takings have halved. There are just no people around as the majority of his customers are blue collar and there is very little building/construction work going on. We're extremly lucky that we don't rely on his business for our staple bills but it does mean the "extras" will have to go i.e. this cruise, the trips to the cinema, the takeaways etc. Even folks in my office are bringing their lunch in rather than going out to one of the sandwich shops. I guess if you can save £20 a week evey little helps.

I'm obsessed with it! They replay it a lot during the week. It's about rich housewives in California, it's a reality show but a good guilty pleasure! The wives are really thin, lots of plastic surgery, spray tans and breast augmentations......so funny.....

I just remember from previous recessions, that people get really anxious and become more demanding.......I keep thinking things can only get better.......I'm afraid it will take some time.......

The really maddening thing is, that the banks who got us into this mess in the first place have been recapitalised by the goverments (i.e. us) but they still won't lend money so thats why people are so scared. Now the banks have gone completely the other way and are "uber" carefull and businesses are running out of cash as folks are too scared to spend as they're concerned about their jobs as the companies they work for are running out of cash. It's just an ever tightening circle and the only way out is for the banks to start lending back out some of that money what WE'VE given them to sort out this mess Ok rant over

Good synopsis........it seems to me that when things get tough, you should be able to cut back on spending, but that seems to be making more trouble.
