Weather report from the Pacific Northwest! It's expected to snow this morning and again this afternoon /evening. Our school district cancelled school for the day. I'm sure the girls are very happy right now! It's 35 degrees out right now.

San Jose has been incredibly cold as well - it's dropped below 40 at night all week. There's even snow on the hills around the bay.

Hello all -- well, I got the dreaded call from the school nurse earlier today about my youngest . . . it seems she had gone in asking for a note so that she wouldn't have to sing because it hurts too much (she is in the midst of rehearsals for a concert on Friday -- and loves to sing) and the nurse said her throat looked terrible and needed to be tested for strep! She had complained off and on for a few days of her throat bothering her, but honestly this time of year it seems we always have some kind of low-grade this or that. So I picked her up from school, took her to the doctor, and she tested positive for strep -- so she is on antibiotics now and will finish up the day before we board the Magic for our New Year's Eve cruise . . . hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon and she will feel better . . . and fingers crossed no one else in the family ends up with it!

Ouch. I went through that - went on a cruise after having strep. Bring some pain killers and sucrets - for some people the throat stays sore for a while even after the infection is gone.

Computer update....my personal Geek Squad (my friend) fixed my computer. He had to install a new hard drive and then reload all the programs. At least now we have a computer that we can print from, which is good for DD and her project this coming week and we can also print our boarding passes for our flight Christmas night.
He'll work on getting the wi-fi working on the wireless printer when he comes back up here from FL next month. Then we'll really be in business with 2 working computers that will both print. :cool1:

Keep the dead drive until you're sure you have everything critical backed up elsewhere. It's costly, but is often possible to recover data even from a dead drive.

Everyone else: remember hard drives are disposable items. They WILL fail sooner or later. If your computer is over 5 years old, the hard drive is living on borrowed time.

Extremely snowy moring here in the mitten! YUCK! I can barely see the school across the street! Most of the school districts in the county have closed today. Wanted to see if our did and they have.

Anyone in this storm or in its way please take care.

I'm back to bed!

What day to you leave, Julie?

A week from today! We sail a week from tomorrow, and I would be too nervous to cut it closer than that, so we are spending one night in Orlando before heading to the port on the 27th.

My NYer DD is coming home tomorrow , so hopefully she'll leave before it gets bad!

How is she coming? Driving? If it's the train, she should be fine . . . Fingers crossed either way!

From last year -- for those of you who don't already know all of us, that is (from left to right) Sallie, MaryAnn (MrsG), me, and JoAnn (jlawall) -- at Rockefeller Center of course!

GOOD MORNING AND AFTERNOON BALLYHOOERS!!!!

Day 3 of cancelled school. Winter break started a little early for lots of kids! No new snow, just cold temps (23 right now) and icy roads. More snow expected Sunday, I think. I'm working overtime tomorrow and have worked 2 hours over each day the last couple days.

Great picture, Julie! Loving putting faces to names! How's your youngest feeling today?

Not well enough to go and sing in the holiday concert, unfortunately . . . this morning she felt sick to her stomach, which could be the antibiotic or a side effect of the strep . . . but I didn't want her hurling during the concert:scared1: . . . I am sad for both of us that I will miss the middle school holiday concert this year, but the upper school one yesterday was lovely. Today was the last day of school for the girls . . . it's just starting to snow here and if the predictions are correct we should get a real one today.

I saw the snow coming down on the Today Show and it looked pretty falling in front of the tree. But please keep it up there, I'll stick with the rain we have today.

Sorry you DD won't be singing in the concert tonight. :flower3:

Thanks for the advise. I am going to keep it, just because that's me. My friend said he tried several ways to find anything on it and couldn't.
Fortunately I only had pics on there and some music, but the pics are on cd's and the music is on the ipod and on the itunes account. I'm just glad that DD didn't have anything saved on there for school that will be needed later, it was mostly last year's assignments which never got deleted.

Our computer is only 4½ years old and the call-in tech said they should only last about 2-3 years. Now I know to make sure anything I have on there is backed-up somewhere. Lesson learned for us.

OMG! That is amazing! You should have seen the smile on my face when I saw all your faces! :goodvibes Amazing backdrop - I'll have to see Rockerfeller center sometime in my life! You should have sent that one out as a Christmas card and knocked out 4 people at once!

Sorry about your DD - I'm keeping fingers crossed mine (April) doesn't get sick. Today is our last day of school and they get out in 1 1/2 hrs but her AP class is holding a one hour class. Then, I've got to take my godson her his sister to see Santa. (Loretta passed away about 2 1/2 yrs ago and its fallen upon me to take them) This should be fun - this old grouch in a mall. :scared1: I usually only venture out after 8 pm. But its Friday - we shall see. :rotfl2:

Anyway, did another quick :drive: and noticed the picture and just had to comment! Take care all - off to wrap Brother Michael's gift and drop it off!

XOXOXOXOX

Now I'm not quite sure I want our rain either. It's looking like we are going to need an ark to get around. Our backyard is starting to look like a lake. :scared1:

Stay warm and safe! We've been lucky so far that it's only been rain, but the temp is not too far above freezing. When it turns to sleet, hail, and ice is when we run into problems. I'll feel much better when Linda gets home from work tonight. At least she's driving the van with the studded tires on it.
