You can't get close to the memorial site in the church where the 'spilt blood' really is. The church was built along the canal where someone died, can't remember his name right now, and they have it marked as a memorial inside the church but it is roped off and you can't get within 30 or 40 feet of the actual site.

There are no relics in the churches, only the beautiful decor. But if they did have relics in them, then my DD would have been thrilled to see them. :confused3
I'll have to let Kathryn know this! It may comfort her a little bit. Luckily in Cartagena we had a GREAT Cast Member on the tour with us. She and Kathryn became best buddies! She held Kathryn's hand almost the whole time and was quite a comfort to her.
I personally thought the relics were WAY COOL! I took a few pictures. I think Andrew probabaly questioned my sanity and Alana just wanted to pretend she didn't know me! I just thought it was cool that it was an actual man(priest) that had lived back a zillion years ago and I was seeing his bones!

Wonderful pictures, Barb!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 St. Petersburg is really going to be beyond belief . . .

Carolyn, you definitely wouldn't have wanted Kathryn to travel with us in Europe summer of 2007 . . . we did the Capuchin crypt in Palermo (decomposed actual bodies hanging all over -- lesson learned: real decomposed people look exactly like the fake ones you see in the Great Movie Ride) AND the catacombs in Paris (hundred of thousands of artfully stacked bones in a large underground labyrinth -- lesson learned: hundreds of real human skulls actually look pretty cool when stacked stylishly!).
:lmao: I think Kathryn would need therapy for life if she had been there! I personally think it sounds really cool and would love to go there!

Thanks for posting the pics! It is going to be a fabulous trip!!

Hallo Ballyhoo'ers!

Well, I've been lurking for a few weeks so I suppose its time to come out of the closet. So to speak.

We will be joining everyone for this little trip!

I'm from the Philly area and am an ER doc, joined by DW and 2 daughters, 8 and 10 at the time of this cruise. We were on the EB Repo in August but had not really been active on the DISboards so were not able to be truer DIS'ers at the time. My in-laws are coming along too. (But that's OK, there is beer on board, right!)

It will be our 3rd DCL cruise, we are going on a secret cruise this August - driving down to the world and then driving back, but instead of heading north, will be setting our sights east and will pull into Port Canaveral - but we are not telling the kids! They think we will be heading home, but instead will be getting 4 nights on the Wonder. I'm not sure when they will figure it out.

This is kinda a theme going - we are going down for 6 days next Wednesday but have not told them either! We will be picking them up from school to go to a 'special dinner.' Which will be at the airport!

We haven't told many people at all that we are going next week because we went in Oct too (Food and Wine/MNSSHP) and they think we are weird for going so much. They just don't understand the love and addiction that is the mouse! And since we have been going more often we are slowing down and enjoying ourselves more!

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Ken

:welcome: Welcome Ken and family. :welcome:

You'll have to give Julie your info if you want it posted on the first page of this thread along with the rest of the Ballyhoo'ers. Please don't let us scare you away, we all get along great and support each other.

We aren't too far from you, we live in DE. There are several of us from the Philly area - I'll include myself in that area since I'm the only one from DE.

I've been posting my pics from our Baltics cruise we took this past summer. I'll post more as time goes on, I don't want overwhelm everyone with ALL the pics I took.

Once again welcome.
Barb

Definately let Kathryn know there is not blood to be seen. Alexa was totally bummed there was no blood. She was all excited she would be seeing blood, and then was bummed when she couldn't get close to the memorial to try and look for the blood.
We had been to Yusopov's Palace the day before and she got to see the wax figure of Rasputin and look at all the info/pics posted about him and that made her happy. She had studied him school 2 years in a row and knew the entire history behind his death. In his pictures he reminded me of Charles Manson, crazy hair and all. It was definately creepy being in the small room with the wax figures and all the info and pics.

We were on the Eastbound PC cruise this year, too, as were several others on this thread, including Cruisin' Mike, eeyorelvr10, and AndrewDEREK_UK . . .

As promised, a few more pictures from the NYE cruise.

Mayan ruins at Xcaret (the coolest thing we did there was the underground river through caverns but none of our water pictures showed up):

NYE: at dinner, we got tiaras (the guys got top hats) and special menus:

Later there was a fabulous deck party with fireworks, and this shows baby New year Donald and Father Time Goofy:

Castaway Cay: we did the crab races (ours didn't even make the semi-finals!) and Mere got to wear this attractive hat . . . and we got a hammock this time!

P1021605.jpg

HEMENT was working on the island -- you can see me behind him in the first shot -- Hement with bare legs! -- we gave him such grief about seeing him in shorts, told him there should be a calendar, "Servers of the Disney Magic" etc.

Last night on the ship: our dream team of Hement, Aswald, and Maclean (Head Server) . . . later on they did a big balloon drop and all had to be popped . . .

Welcome, Ken! I almost feel like a lurker myself. I have been away for so long!

We went to South Carolina for Christmas to visit our dd. It was wonderful with record high temperatures for Christmas day. We enjoyed all the sunshine we could get.

We can appreciate anyone's flight delays over the holidays! We had our share on the way home:eek:

This past week we have had it all from rain, sleet, ice and now snow!:scared1: Now the kids have a 2 hour delay for tomorrow:)

I am having foot surgery the 19th so I am getting my Disney DVD's together to take to the bedroom. I have quite a few I haven't watched so I plan on keeping myself entertained if I have to be confined!:rolleyes1 . I will have to be sure the laptop is working! :surfweb: We have not used it for ages!

Izzi, thanks so much for taking care of the Christmas card exchange. It was so much fun!

Wishing everyone a great 2009.

........................... it looks as though I'm safe. Those that are definately going have gone and those that are "at risk" have been informed and the final selection will be done by this Friday. I'm still here and I'm NOT on the "at risk" list.

Thank you again for all your kind thoughts

We're so glad to hear good news from you Izzi.

Sorry -- as I'm sure Mike could attest, I have a thing for exotic animals -- did you ever see the pic of me with the tarantula crawling in my mouth?:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That's cool about Andrew . . . :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I don't think we really need to see that pic at all. :scared1: :scared: :scared1: :scared: :scared1:

Let me say once again how much I love that tarantula picture!!!

Great pictures, Barb! Kathryn wants nothing to do with the church! I think it has to do with the Spilt Blood in the name! I've told her there really isn't any blood on the floor! She was freaking out in the churches we went into in Cartagena. One of the churches had relics in it and she wouldn't even go close. She doesn't do skeletons and stuff very well.

We thought Cartegena, particularly the old walled city, was beautiful. The relics were displayed right in the altar in the Church of Pedro San Claver. Here's a couple pics:

Welcome aboard Ken and family!

We're in the Philly burbs and we were on the EB PC repo too.

I love that you're surprising the kids with these trips. Have fun!

I'm sure this is no surprise to anyone (he is from Norway!) but I spoke with Captain Tom on the NYE cruise and he is definitely doing all the Baltic cruises. As he exclaimed with more enthusiasm than I think I had ever witnessed from him, "We will see Nor-vay!"
