We are trying to figure out where we are going to eat when we are at DHS, my mom went ahead and booked 50's Prime Time. My niece is very picky and very shy, I have heard that the waitors will tell you to eat everything on your plate...do they tease you alot, my niece is pretty sensitive so we are worried she might cry if this happens...please let me know about your experiences. Thanks.

You could say something to the hostess when you check in and ask her to alert your server that you have a sensitive niece.

The last time I went (1992), I remember feeling scolded.

Usually, I am the first to join in on the fun (for instance, I love all the jokes at Whispering Canyon Cafe). And don't mind making a fool of myself.

But this server just didn't have the charisma to pull off what she was trying to do. It came across as though she was yelling at us. She was more of a nag than dear old mom. And who wants that when they are trying to eat? LOL

If we had a server with more charisma, I can see how it would have been fun. You might want to try Mama Melrose or Brown Derby.

I would just give the waitress a "heads up" and let them know not to say anything to her. We went with my 2-year-old grandson, and they made me change my seat when he wanted to sit where I was, and it was interesting to watch his reaction. Later, when he was acting up, the waitress came and carted him off. We ate in peace. When she brought him back, he was beaming because they gave him one of those light-up ice cubes. If she is a picky eater, just substitute something else for what she doesn't like. They're pretty good about substituting. Enjoy yourself--it's a fun place to eat!

The first time I went a few years ago it was much more "intense" than it is now. My son was terrified we'd get a "Dad" for a waiter because while we were waiting for our table, we saw one of the Dads make a real dad go stand in the corner for talking out of turn. We adults thought it was hilarious but our son was nervous during the meal. However, he ended up loving it and wanted to go back every year. We never did because I wasn't really keen on the food. I thought it was just far too much food for lunch. Not enough lighter choices. But they covinced us to take them back over the summer and it was much milder. We had a young woman as a waitress who said she was our "Aunt" because she obviously wasn't old enough to play the "Mom" character. She was very nice and didn't scold anyone at all.

This place is the best:thumbsup2 . Just let them know about her and they will respect that.

The last time I was there we practically begged for fun interaction and got nothing. So, I don't think you have much to worry about.

I wouldn't worry about it. Every time we've gone, they have picked on the oldest members of our group. One time we went, it was our arrival day and by lunch we just wanted food and the waitress picked up on that and didn't tease us at all. She knew we weren't feeling it right then.

They are really great at picking up on who is interested in playing around and who is not. I wouldn't hesitate to mention to the hostess when you check in, too, that the youngest member of your party would rather not be involved and they can pass that onto your waiter.

My kids really liked it. I did tell the host we preferred a calmer server and ours still did things like ask the kids to set the table but nothing scolding or embarassing at all. The kids did think it was funny what some of the other servers were doing but said they were glad we had the nicer server. This was one of our best meals the whole trip.

DH and I were both picked on, but she pretty much left our kids alone.

Don't worry about it. Our server did that to one person at each of the two other tables in our room but didn't bother too much with us. I would suggest that when you place your orders with the server that you have a prewritten note that simply says "please do not pick on the six year old". Hand that to the server and you won't have any problems.

BTW - my father-in-law absolutely LOVED their pot roast. And their stacked sandwich is very stacked.

I've had two very different experiences at PTC. The first time it was me, DH and DD and our waitress gave my DH a lot of trouble. By trouble, I mean she was just annoying, not good and wouldn't let up. Because of that visit, he refuses to go back. The second visit (just me and DD this time), we had the sweetest waitress who made a few funny comments here and there but by no means bothered us at all. We did make a point to set our tables, keep arms off of the table, etc. I did hear other servers almost yelling at customers but I think these customers tend to be the ones that really play along and do things wrong on purpose.

My daughter is 6 also, and very shy and sensitive and we will not go back anytime soon. We asked that they not do anything because our daughter is very sensitive and they still did things to upset her. When a child is that sensitive even the little things we don't mind they do as I am sure you already know. All the waitress said was please take your elbows off the table and that upset her. Just the tone sometimes can do it. For many years my daughter did not even like happy birthday sung to her. It was only recently that it changed. I am not sure if your niece is as sensitive as that but if you have any concerns don't do it and ruin your day. There are enough other places to eat. Goods luck no matter what you decide. :)

My son has HF autism and would also be very uncomfortable with the waitress interaction. I simply printed out some business cards that said

Hi, My name is Riley. I love Disney World and all the fun and magic. I am living Grandly with autism and sometimes too much attention from others makes me uncomfortable. Feel free to bother my family though and I will enjoy that, just leave me out. Thanks for Helping me have a Disney Day.
