.

I only buy the school pics in the springtime, they get their pics on different fun stuff-credit-card type things, stickers, rulers, etc., or I wouldn't buy them then.:p I take them atleast once a year to a studio for pics to send out at Christmastime.

Even before school started I had to run by there for paperwork on stuff. There was an picture envelope inside. Yesterday pictures were taken. I then remembered the envelope which said it's to be turned in on picture day! I DON'T THINK SO!! I'm not buying any pictures without seeing them first. Ugh! I want to bring DS's school from FL up here. LOL! There's quite a few things I'm unhappy with here. Even DS wants his principal from FL! And she's known as "General Murphy!"

We're going to JC Penny. I got the picture order form yesterday and am not paying $17 for 1 5x7 and 9 hand out pictures. My kindergardeners does'nt care, but I can see an issue brewing as she gets older!!

JC Penny here we come!

Well, that;s not so nice, Pem. I would certainly do the Penny's, much better deal. Is #2 the one who was sick yesterday? Maybe he was getting sick over the pictures.

I hear ya, girl. All of mine have brought home picture info, too.

Last year I only bought the 8x10. This year, I'm taking them to Wal-Mart. School pics are just way too expensive, esp. when you have 4 to buy for.

I hate to admit to this, the school picture police might come and get me LOL!!! But I buy the smallest package they have, and then take a picture from that, scan it into my computer and print out as many as I want and what ever size I want. They look just like the ones from school, sometimes even better.

But it's our little secert between us DISner's. SSSHHH!!!!!;)

The reason school pics are so expensive is because they are a fundraiser. Our school gets 50% of the package price! That doesn't leave much for the photographer, when you think about it. I wish they'd just let people donate what they can/wish/whatever, and let the pics be sold at a lower price so parents can afford them easier. My 2 cents :)

At least you can get retakes if the fall picture is bad. Last year only DD#2 looked good enough to buy a spring photo, and DS kept asking why we didn't buy any of his.
I need the smallest package with an 8 x 10 for my mantle. DD#1 had hers taken at registration, $26 (she got a gray background, color background was an extra $3!). Of course soccer pictures are Sept. 11 this year too. Last year when I tried to take photos as the guy set up he got really nasty with me about it, and they only had 8 x 10 team photos--my "team photo" frame, of course, is 5 x 7, with no scanner. (sigh)

Our policy is a little nicer.

At least we get to see them before we buy. Prices are similar and I buy smallest package IF they are good. DD had hers last Friday. I never go to Penney's or other stores. I quick fooling with it. Hope I don't regret it. I just take lots of regular photos. Much nicer to me than a school pic or package.:)

feleing better? :)

Our pics are Sept 13th. We buy them sight unseen but you can have retakes done. I always go for the least expensive package so we can have the class picture each year.

School didn't even start here yet and I've gotten the form in the mail for pictures. They will be taken on Sept. 16th. They are so expensive. The cheapest is $16 for 2 3x5s, 2 2x3s, 18 exchanges(they must be the real mini ones), 1 school record photo and 1 yearbook photo (all useless sizes!). The school record photo and the yearbook photo gets delivered directly to the school. Why should I have to pay for a school record photo. Sounds like if they don't get their pictures taken then they won't be in the yearbook either.:crazy2: This is only 7th grade I don't see the need to a $65 yearbook either at this age, but that's another whole story.

we did the buy your own pictures one year. My kids were so embarrassed to be "different" from everyone that I just get the pictures from the school. High school takes their pictures on enrollment day (like its not expensive enough already) and middle school had theirs taken the 1st friday back. Grade schools haven't been given a date yet, but it will be soon because we always get them back in time for christmas cards. I got the basic package for $36. It was 3 8x10s, 4 5x7s and I think 24 wallets. I never get the extra backrounds or retouchs.

We don't get to see our kids pictures before purchasing it, and we don't even get a class picture for the price that we pay for

I agree Barb. They are getting way too expensive! I think I'm going to go the Penney route this year too! Besides, when you're with them, you can make sure their hair is combed and their clothes are fixed before the pictures get snapped. If the place that takes the pictures for the school wants to get alot of business you would think they would care about such things.

gotta agree - school pictures are a bummer!

We had a really neat company last year (was dissapointed not to have them again this year) that made up for the extra expense. They had hard laminated pictures in the shape of bookmarks, christmas ornaments, magnets, etc. They also had sticker pictures.

This year is the basic company so I'm paying the lowest I can - $19. for 1 5x7, 1 3.5, 2 wallets and one class photo. What a ripoff - the only reason I'm buying it is for the class photo and they won't let us buy it alone!

We also have cheerleading pictures this week which is another expensive package that I have to buy just so I can get a group shot.

Last year I bought all the laminated pictures and saved them for presents so I didn't mind that. I bought the basic cheerleading package with her early fall uniform, then brought her to Walmart with her late fall uniform (turtleneck and sweater added).:cheer2:

Oh, the yearbook thing. I forgot about that. If I don't buy a package then they won't be in the yearbook? Ugh! Guess I'm coming up with the $16 for the package again. We're still going to Penneys. I want that 10X13 and I'm not paying school prices.

This is only 7th grade I don't see the need to a $65 yearbook either at this age, but that's another whole story.
:earseek:

We don't buy the school pictures either. I take my kids to Sears. The pictures are cheaper and much better quality. I didn't buy any pictures for my daughter last year from school and she was still in the yearbook (they get the yearbook for free). She still got her picture taken, I just didn't buy any.
