Just wondering why they are celebrating 60th anniversary this yr if disneyland was 60 last year?

Watched the tv show last sun and was wondering why 60 was this year

Because it has been so successful at selling tickets and merchandise? ;)

Or maybe because lots of people didn't get a chance yet to get to the parks during the celebration and would still like to?

If you visited the parks this exact time in 2015 there was no celebration happening - it began on May 22nd 2015 and runs for over a year - until beginning of September 2016. I think they will sell plenty of tickets even after it's over. The same thing happened for the 50th where the actual celebration period extended beyond a year.

I understand the on going celebration in the park for the entire year long celebration. But, I did find it odd that they waited for the tv special until 6+ months in to the celebration for the tv special. I really feel like it was just to drum up some hype over Star Wars Land.

The tv special was very promotional - it was clearly big advertising.

I'm sure the timing of the special had more to do with advertising rates and ratings than it did actually trying to draw visitors to the park.

Maybe it was timed with construction getting under way and a concern that people would put off their visits until after it was all done.

DLRP did the same thing recently, celebrating an anniversary for several years. It almost happened with the Disneyland 50th, if I remember correctly. They do this kind of stuff all the time. Make the celebrations last as long as they possibly can.

Technically, the 60th year ran from July 17, 2014 until July 16, 2015.

You're right. But I think most people celebrate the year following the anniversary date, not the year leading up to?

I'm glad they are!! Our last trip was April before it started and our next one was scheduled for October. We planned a last minute trip a week ago for next week. Not realizing that it would all be over by October so I'm glad we'll get to see it, just by luck!

I am glad that they planned it the way they did, we are going in June and one of the many things I am excited to see while we are there is the park twinkling with diamonds plus the different celebrations activities (i.e. new parade, fireworks show, new additions to rides, WOC, etc...). We were not able to go last year, and I was bumming myself out because I thought for sure that when we go this year, it would be over...I was so happy to find out it will still be going on :goodvibes.

Dang it. I did not think about that! I haven't seen the special yet but should've realized it was more promotional than celebratory, considering the fact I heard it didn't go much into the history of Disneyland. :(
