I'm seriously considering upgrading my T2i to a T3i simply becuase I like the articulating screen.

While doing my due diligence, I found the 60D on sale at BB for basically the same price as the T3i. WHAT?!?!? You gotta be kidding me! (Granted, body only but I have the lenses I want right now.)

That got me thinking, "Why wouldn't I buy the 60D instead of the T3i if I'm going to buy the T3i anyway?"

That begs the question. I've looked at the specs and in most categories, the 60D beats the T3i or at worst ties it. I can't see anything I'd be giving up by buying the 60D instead of the T3i.

Can somebody come up with a downside because this is looking like a no-brain decision to me. Surely I'm missing something. I'd love to have a 7D but it has compact flash cards (which I just don't care for because they are expensive, harder to find, and I generally like my EyeFi cards) and it's much more spendy.

I've gotta be missing something here. What would I be giving up with the 60D?

Thanks!

The only possible reason to consider the T3i over the 60D is size and weight.

If I could do it all over again, I would have gotten the 60D over my T2i. Now I' saving for a 5D.

I weighed the t2i to the 60D when I bought my 60D a couple months ago, and I certainly haven't regretted it. The 60D handled much easier for me (I'm 6'4" so YMMV) and had much better access to controls. From what I understand, the t3i was just a tweak to fill in the gap between the t2i and the 60D, not quite the revolution that the t2i was. I think Anewman nailed it with larger size/weight being the about the only downside of the 60D, but that might not be a bad thing (it was a big benefit in my case).

The 18-135 IS EF-S kit lens that came with my 60D has been a good all-purpose lens, but if you already have glass you like then, like you said, not much reason to buy it twice.

The T3i is more a refinement of the T2i than an upgrade, IMO. All of them use the same sensor, so going from the T2i to any of them is for the features and not image quality anyway. Go with what has the features you want.

To be an upgrade of the T2i wouldn't it's number follow suit ...T2i is 550D,
but the T3i is different number set... for some reason I thought it was an upgrade of the Sxi ??

The T3i is the 600D.

Ended up buying the 60D today. I really like that it's more substantial than my T2i or any of my prior Rebels. We'll see if I really like it (Haven't sold my T2i yet and may keep it as a backup anyway.). For Silver Rewards members, at least BB has a liberal return policy (no restocking and 45 days to return).

Thanks for all the advice guys!

EDIT: Had days wrong on BB return policy.

The T3 (1100D) is the first camera to really follow the XS (1000D). They are actually a sub class of the Rebel line. The T1i (500D) actually followed the XSi (450D) a couple years ago then came the T2i(550D) and now the T3i (600D). And before that you had the Xti (400D), the XT (350D) and the original Digital Rebel (300D).

Canon's numbering on the Rebel line is pretty confusing. When you look at the old XT, it has no i, but it's successor was not the XS at all. Then they started throwing numbers in there for us with the T1i... Sometimes I wonder why they can't just pick one system and stay with it. It'd be a lot easier for us when we're shopping.
