6 people in 1 hotel room

We are on an extremely strict budget for our trip, as it was a last minute thing for a surprise 75th b-day party in Arizone. Anyway, we want to stop in southern CA for about 4 days. It's 2 adults and 4 kids and we want to find the cheapest hotel room. We were hoping to sneak the kids into a regular room rather than paying extra for a suite. If it was a regular vacation, I wouldn't mind getting a suite. But honestly, we only need/want 2 queen beds anyway. The three older boys, ages 2, 6, and 8, sleep together in a twin bed at home all of the time. They will be more than happy to share a queen bed. And the youngest is only 1 and will share a bed with me and dh.

Those of you with larger families, have you ever tried to get 1 hotel room without getting caught?

Those of you who have travelled on a tight budget, can you recommend any good hotels near Sea World and/or Legoland? Something in between would probably be even better LOL

I am not sure how "budget" you mean - cheap hotel rooms in summer in SD are hard to find IMO - but we found the prices to be most reasonable generally in Carlsbad. We are staying at the Hampton Inn there for a bit more than $100 per night. Free breakfast. Legoland is just down the road and the beaches are supposed to be nice and uncrowded in Carlsbad. Seaworld will be about 30 minutes away. All of this is hearsay since we haven't been there yet.

Good luck. I don't know anything about exceeding occupancy limits, sorry. The Hampton knows we'll have 5 in the room.
