Greetings all!

We are planning our 2024 vacation and my family increased from 3 to 6 people :-) We are looking at booking a 2 bedroom, but I was wondering if was possible to fit 6 people in a 1 bedroom. I know it's "not advised" per DVC, but was wondering if anyone has tried. If so, what were the drawbacks?

I'm sure we will ultimately end up in a 2 Bedroom somewhere, since my use year doesn't kick in until Dec and I'm sure CCV will be full, we'll be at SSR or AKV, but was curious about everyone's thoughts.

Thanks!

What ages of kids? I think one has to under 3. You can't put 6 names on a resie. If all 6 are over 3 then someone won't be linked for park tix, dining and genie and all that. And if the CMs discover more than 5 over the age of 3, they will kick you out. I saw it happen at BWV once. Security escorted them all out. This was a 1BR loaded with air mattresses all over the floors (we could see in).

Also, CCV are 4 guests over age 3 (and 1 under 3) allowed in a 1BR. Same with AKV value 1BR.

Also, not clear but use year 'kicking in' has nothing to do with when you can book a room. You pick dates to make a reservation that are within 11 months + 7 days and pick which ever use year points are eligible to book that reservation

I would suggest some place that has 2 bathrooms! Kids and the bathroom - oh the joys.

Agreed - I was confused by that, too. Go make that reservation now!

Six will fit very comfortably in the two bedroom at SSR. We had 5 in a 2 bdrm and one kid tossed and turned so bad, she prevented the bed mate from being able to sleep. We were very happy to have the extra Murphy bed in the living room. You can book your Dec 2024 trip starting in January 2024 at your home resort.

What happens if i'm out of points until Dec?

You are never out of points unless you used them up. Your points get loaded for next few use years (you can see in the dashboard). When you are booking a stay, only the points that you can use to book THAT stay are available to be picked. E.g. If your 2024 stay is in June, you should be able to book it TODAY using Dec UY 2023 points, banked Dec UY 2022 points or borrowed Dec UY 2025 points. Since June 2024 is > 7 months, you will be able to book only at your home resort though. If it is in before April 14 2024 then since you are within 7 month window, you will be able to book at any resort that has availability.

As above, UY has nothing to do with when you can book, but it has everything to do with which points you can use. That’s probably the most confusing part of DVC. If your planned trip checks in between 12/1/2023 and 8/14/2024, you can book it right now and use banked 2022 points (if you have any), your 2023 points, and you can borrow points from your 2024 UY that starts 12/1/2024.

Ok, I understand what you mean now. Here's my dilemma: I only have 150 Points to work with on my current contract. My new (resale) contract (50 points, same UY, 50 banked) just closed today and won't be ready for another 2-4 weeks. Plus, it is at a different resort. So in order to combine all 150 current, and 150 new to total 300 and stay at one resort I would have to wait until 7 months out correct?

Book what you can with your home resort points now. Then hope to add more nights with your other resort points at 7 months. Don’t pass up the opportunity to book your home resort at 11 months (or in the 7-11 month window, at least).

ETA And consider the possibility for a split stay, if your home resort isn’t available at 7 months but some other resort is.

Yes, because your current contract is a different resort than the resale contract.

Agree with booking advice @CarolynFH gave you. :)

Yes, since they are the same Dec UY but different resorts, to combine those points you will need to book at the 7 month mark of the trip date. Like another poster said above, usually I book what at can at the home resorts for my trip dates (e.g. home resort one day 1-3, home resort two day 4-6) and try to combine them at one resort at 7 month mark.
