We arrived at All Star Movies just before 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 25. There were only a few people ahead of us in the check in line; we were checking in within five minutes.

We had two reservations, one for my family and one for my mother-in-law. We had requested non-smoking, connecting rooms. We also asked for the Toy Story building (requests were made before TS building was preferred). All of our requests were honored. The TS rooms did not add to the cost; we were billed the old, non-preferred rate.

The rooms were located on the first floor of the Woody building, rooms 7906 and 7907. R.C. was located right outside our window. Cinema Hall was just a short walk from the room, as was the Fantasia themed pool.

The rooms were clean, although 7906 had quite a bit of wear-and-tear. Black smudges marred the paint above the “closet” area and near the table. One of the chairs had a rather large chocolate stain on the cushion. There was quite a bit of dust in the dresser drawer handles, but I imagine that would be a tough spot to reach.

Posters often complain or ask about the “paper thin walls” at the All Stars. We had no noise problems. We did hear a few toilets flushing, but that was during the morning when we were already awake. I never heard any noise at all during the night.

The beds were small and fairly firm. I didn’t have trouble sleeping, but we’re used to a queen at home, so it felt kind of tight. My wife often took the other bed (the kids were next door); we started to call each other Ward and June.

Are these rooms small? We did not feel cramped at all. The size is very similar to what one would find at any value hotel around the country.

The food court was always well stocked, and the checkout lines were speedy. We had lengthy waits a few times, especially at the Roxy. The grilled items took a long time to make. I appreciate the fact that the burgers, for example, were freshly cooked, but it was frustrating to stand in line. At one point, at least twenty people were in line waiting to order and ten others were waiting to receive their food.

The other frustrating thing about the food court was the station setup itself. I understand the reasoning: keep all of the grilled and fried foods together (Roxy) and the items that can be kept warm and prepared quickly should be grouped together (Majestic). The Lyric station had some of the more exotic items (vegetable sandwiches, for example). OK, makes sense, but this setup is bad for those who have kids. My son wanted a grilled cheese; I wanted a meatball sub. That means two, sometimes lengthy, waits in line. The same can be said for dessert. Want an ice cream treat to use as a dining plan dessert? Yet another line.

Look for my dining reviews on the dining board sometime in the next few days.

Both pools were nice, but frequently closed due to lightning in the area. No problem there. The Duck Pond pool was often more hectic than the Fantasia pool, so we didn’t try it.

The grounds were very nice, although I should mention that Woody is currently being refurbished; he’s hidden behind a big white baggy. There was more litter on the ground than what I have seen at other resorts, but I imagine that is a result of the size of the resort, not a lack of effort on the hotel staff.

Speaking of the staff, I found most of them to be indifferent towards their jobs and us. The food court cashiers were the nicest of the bunch, very friendly and happy. The rest of the CMs were no better than what one would find at a Super 8 or Motel 6. We went to the Grand Floridian for breakfast one morning; each and every CM we ran into said hello.

We also overheard many CMs talking about their work hours and how they wish they could go home. We all complain about our jobs, but it’s not something we should do in front of our customers. This was a dose of reality we were not looking for in the middle of the Disney magic.

Resort transportation was, for the most part, terrible. I’ll post details on the transportation board. Our Magical Express experience was truly magical. Well done Disney and Mears! We also had a great experience on Delta.

Weather was hot (expected) with constant rain the first two days (odd). After that the weather settled into its normal pattern: storms in the afternoon and evening, perfectly hot and humid other times.

So would we stay at the All Stars again?

By the middle of our second day, my wife came right out and said that she would never stay at a value again. I wholeheartedly agreed with her. We stayed at All Star Movies because we needed two rooms. From now on, it’s a moderate or deluxe for us. In fact, we have already decided on the Wilderness Lodge for our next trip.

Thanks for your report on the All Star Movies. I've never stayed there, but I've stayed at other values. I definitely prefer the mods or deluxe. The all stars are nice, basic, motels.

thanks so much for your report. I have stayed most recently at the All Star Movies resort and found it okey. We only sleep and dress in the rooms so it wasn't an issue. We also love the moderates and the deluxe hotels at Disney. Hope that you enjoyed the food court at Movies as much as we did......they had a great selection each day

Our family of four was at the ASMo during June 22-July 2 and I totally agree with you on 2 points: the lines in the food court (some mornings they were making waffles upon order! that was ridiculous when there were 15 people in line for them :sad2:) and the trash around the resort. I couldn't believe all the smoking that was going on everywhere you looked! :confused3 And then just tossing the butts on the ground--no wonder the CM can't keep up with it. People are so lazy--there were entire trays of meal remains left both inside and outside because the family couldn't walk over to the trash and toss it away??? We didn't experience any issues with the pool, transportation, friendliness, etc. We choose the ASMo for our home base each trip because it allows us to stay 11 days instead of 4-5 at one of the pricier resorts. To each his own...WDW certainly gives everyone their choice :woohoo:

I noticed the smoking too, but I didn't bring it up because it always starts a flame war between the smokers and the nons. We stayed at the All Stars because we needed two rooms; five in a mod would have been too crowded for us.

I think the All Stars are visited by two groups: (1) those who need two rooms or want a longer stay and (2) those who cannot afford the mods or deluxes under any circumstance.

At the risk of starting a battle, I am going to stick my neck out. I think the condition of the All Stars during my trip was largely due to those in group two above. It just seemed like tons of people didn't have the class or respect to clean up after themselves. We saw tons of people leave food on the tables, flicking their butts on the ground, and punching and yelling on the buses. One day someone threw his trash in the Mug Rinse sink. Holy crap! It's clearly labeled. Come on!

I have never seen this behavior at any other Disney resort, or at other vacation spots (Ocean City, NJ; Myrtle Beach, SC; etc.) I have visited. Of course, the rooms there were more than $99 per night.

Is the lack of respect shown by some staying at the All Stars a result of the mass quantity of budget minded travelers treating the resort just like they would a Holiday Inn along the interstate?

As we all know, "you get what you pay for." Don't expect a magical experience from the All Stars. Disney is trying, but too many guests are ruining the experience with a lack of class.

From now on, we're paying a little more for an added level of polish and decorum.

You are absolutely right, those of us that can't afford to stay in the more expensive hotels have no class. We all smoke and throw our trash all over the place. We curse too, and hit our kids in public. We don't want you're uppity kind in our hotel, please don't stay there again.

I don't think that's exactly what I said. I believe that I stated that there were some people there who were acting in the ways I described. By no means did I mean that EVERYONE staying there had little or no class.

In fact, I don't think that any of us on the DIS would treat the resorts so poorly. If you took my statements personally or found them offensive, I apologize. I figured someone would take offense, so I'm not that surprised.

BTW: As someone who is "uppity," I should probably point out the fact that you used the word "you're" when you meant to use "your."

:sad2:

Yes, I guess you really did stick your neck out so now is the time I am going to get on my soapbox!

I can well afford to stay at any of Disney's hotels.
My husband owns a multimillion dollar business.
We pay a lot more in taxes each year than the average family makes in a year.
We have a 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom lakefront home with a large inground heated pool. We have 2 boats and a Jet Ski. We put 3 children through college and our youngest will graduate in December with a double major. We have 3 more years on our mortgage otherwise we are debt free. Does that make me any better than any of Disney's other guests whether they stay value, mod or deluxe? NO! More fortunate than some maybe but not better.

When I stay at an All Star I never feel like I am treated as a lower class guest nor do I feel that those around me are lower class guests.

When I am at Disney I enjoy going to the parks, shopping, dining and just exploring. I'm not spending a lot of time relaxing in my room. I don't need to be pampered or have my ego stroked.

Some guests enjoy the pampering and the deluxe resorts.
That is fine and of course they should choose the kind of vacation they would like.
They worked hard for their vacation money and should spend it the way want to.
Sure I can well afford a deluxe resort but just because I can afford it does not mean I want to stay at one. No! I want to stay where the magic is.
When I stay at an All Star it is like I stepped into a Disney Movie Fantasyland.

I enjoy watching the children's eyes light up and the big smiles they have when they see their favorite characters come to life.

These resorts are an extension of the parks. They are the very essence of Disney. :thumbsup2

To the OP your original post was an honest review of your experience and that was exactly the way I read the 1st post. You would have been better off to stop with that post.

It was your 2ed post that "showed your true colors" and how biased you really are!

You get what you pay for????
When I stay at a Disney value resort I feel Disney has given me and other families who stay at a value a real bargain. We get a lot more than we pay for.
Disney's value resorts are a total bargain. You get so many perks (Disney theming, large wonderfully themed pools. Plenty of room and chairs to relax on by the pools, Disney transportation, and EMH)
Any of Disney's resort guests (even those staying at a value or mod) are allowed to shop, dine, use the transportation or spa facilities at any of the Disney Resorts. (Of course pool hopping is not allowed.)

Disney does charge a premium price for their Deluxe resorts.
Deluxe guests are paying for location and amenities not for stellar customer service.
Many guests are disappointed because they think the GF is a 5 star hotel.
They expect the service of a 5 star and are disappointed when their expectations are not met.
It is in no way near a 5 star hotel even though it costs as much as many 5 star hotels.
The GF is rated 4 diamonds by AAA but most sites rate it as 3 and a half.
The Poly and CR are usually considered 3 star hotels.

------------------------------------------------------------

When I think of a Disney Resort. I think of The All Stars.

I have been visiting since 1971 when it was brand new.
Most people would think I would equate the Poly or The Contemporary with Disney.
Not Me! The Poly and Contemporary may be nice resorts but they just do not seem Disney to me.

I love the giant icons at the All Stars. The huge Coke cups with the straws in them at All Star Sports, the Giant Buzz and Woody and the Mickey pool at All Star Movies, and the pool with Donald at All Star Music. I feel like I stepped into a Disney Movie Fantasyland when I am at the All Stars.
Now that is Disney!
When we pull up to All Stars and I see those giant icons I get the biggest smile on my face. I know I am at Disney! :goodvibes
------------------------------------------------------

Yes, I fall into higher income who enjoys staying at a Value.

I chose to stay at All Star Music for 3 main reasons.

1. I enjoy the theming at the All Stars.

All Star Music is also is the quietest of the values. Generally less people stay there and there are more seniors and couples and less young children because children enjoy the themes of the other values more.

2. The bus service at the All Stars is very good. Since I use an ECV good bus transportation is essential. :moped:

3. The entry at the values and Mods are much more Handicap friendly.
I am able to get in and out of my All Star room unassisted. This way my husband can go and play a round of golf and know I can leave my room to relax by the pool if I choose.

The Deluxe rooms have a narrow hall with the bath on one side and closet on the other. I cannot open the door from the inside unassisted.

Thanks, My wife will not stay at a value again also.

FYI
A lot of food courts are set up this way.
Not just the value resorts.

I cannot understand why people especially DIS members think that only lower class guests would ever stay at value.
That assumption is very judgmental to say the least.

The main reason that Disney is having trouble with Mousekeeping is help in the Orlando area is very hard to find.

Disney is understaffed and they work their employees extra long hours. No wonder the employees are complaining! Disney does not have enough employees pure and simple.

Take a look at the resort boards there are poor Mousekeeping reports at every level of resort!

If it were not for the College Program Disney would not be able to run the parks and resorts.

The Orlando unemployment is close to 0%.

Which means almost everyone in the Orlando area looking for a job has a job.

We stayed at POFQ May 28th - June 5th in two connecting rooms. I picked this resort because of all the wonderful reviews and it's small size. I just KNEW I would love this place, but  I didn't.

Check in was great, very fast and the CM was very nice and friendly. We were put in building 1 (small resort so didn't matter) 1st floor (yesss :thumbsup2 ) AND.... (drumroll please) one of our rooms were ready. It was 12:00pm. :Pinkbounc We got 1113 and 1114, facing parking lot (view did not matter).

So far, so good. So we walk to our 1 room and the 2nd room was being cleaned as we walked up. Another good sign. Mousekeeping walks out of our 2nd room as we are walking into our 1st room and we smile ...try to make small talk but she doesn't speak English and we don't speak what ever language she was speaking. But it's all good.

So we go into the room, drop our backpacks, and I start checking out the rooms. 1st room.... dusty (not that big of a deal), crumbs on the table, dresser, and bench.....ummmm....okay. Glad I brought some clorox wipes. Walk into the bathroom to check out the shower and WOW, big shocker....mildew :sad2: . Now, for the record, this is not just a Disney problem. I think every hotel we have ever stayed at had mold in the shower. SOOOOO, I was prepared and brought the Tilex - Mildew Cleaner.

RANT WARNING:

Come on people....it's not that hard to keep mildew away :furious: . There are TONS of mildew cleaners on the market and all that you have to do is point and spray. You don't even have to SCRUB!!!!!!!! I live in Houston, Tx. It's hot and humid, just like florida. I have white tile, white grout, and 5 in a family who use the showers in our home daily. Guess what.... NO MILDEW!!!!!

RANT OVER ;)

So when we got our luggage (which we used Magical Express and they were FANTASTIC) I pulled out the Tilex, sprayed and that did the trick. (See, not that hard) Noticed the carpet had not been vacuumed.

Went to check out our 2nd room....dusty (again not a big deal), mildew in the shower :confused3 , and the carpet had not been vacuumed. Wasn't mousekeeping JUST in here?!?! The carpet needed to be replaced in the 2nd room because it had a ton of "gum smushed in" spots :crazy2:.

Okay, so my husband calls housekeeping and asked them to please come vacuum the rooms. Our Mousekeeper lady comes to the door just as we are walking out headed to the food court and then on to the parks. We ask her to please vacuum and she shakes her head yes. Good...problem solved.

Wow, sorry so long, I will continue in next post.

mommyto3 said:
Okay, so onto the food court. I hated it. It was small, hot, crowded and dirty. The set up was a pain in the rear when you have 6 people all on the Dining Plan and they all want different items. I think me and my husband had to stand in all of the lines just to get everything that everyone wanted (4 out of the 6 were children so had them go find a table and STAY THERE (there were so many people and kids everywhere I was afraid I would loss one of mine)...swore I would not eat there again.

Now, back to the rooms. When we got back that night from the parks...the floor had not been vacuumed. What the...... . Whatever, everyone was tired and she would be back the next day anyway so she would vacuum then right? RIGHT? Well that would be a big fat NO because when we returned for our afternoon nap around 2:30 the next day our room looked just like it had when we left that morning....crumbs and all. So we put the "do not disturb" sign out and crashed.....mousekeeping would get it tomorrow. The next day we stayed out until 3:30, just to give them more time, and guess what......room still looked like it did that morning....and the day before....do you see a pattern here?

Let me give you a summary of the rest of our stay. Our room was NEVER vacuumed the whole 9 days we were there, and we only had houskeeping 4 out of the 9 days and that was the days we didn't go back to the room to rest, so it didn't matter if they came at 5pm to give us towels and straighten the beds. Whould you be shocked if I told you we received ZERO towel animals?!?!?! Seriously, didn't care about that, just would have like to have the floors vacuumed. Heck, bring me the vacuum and I would have done it myself.

Anyway, buses came quickly, but the 4 stops after ours was a pain. I knew this ahead of time but I didn't think it would add that much time to get to the parks...but it did . It took FOREVER to get to AK because of the Blizzard Beach stop. Going from the parks back to the resort was fine because we were the 1st stop. Had to stand a lot but we don't mind.

Housekeeping was our main issue. Could have asked for different rooms, but with 6 peoples junk, the thought was exhausting. So just stuck it out, but would not return.

Sorry sooo long. Thanks for listening if you made it this far . .

Coronado springs - Wouldn't recommend it

We've stayed in many disney resorts, and was recently sent to Coronado Springs for a business stay. I would not go back there again. The service was bad - none of that Disney cheer, friendliness and support. Some downright rudeness.

The first room they sent us to was way in back. You had to go through these claustrophobicly tight paths to get there. The no smoking room smelled like there were smokers doing non-stop smoking for at least a week. They gave us a hard time about changing rooms, and finally I got one that was better. I had medical needs and requirements and they were not willing to comply at first, but later did.

The new room didn't feel clean and with only one sink instead of the two in most of the other resorts - it seemed cramped.

The food court was strange. You get a ticket when you go in, and then you are seated as if you are in a full service restaurant. Sometimes a server comes by and other times not no one came. They will get you drinks if you request it, but there is a drink station that everyone uses anyway. There was no point to having a server, but you have to pay 10% for them anyway.

You go up and get your food at different stations, and the cooks stamp your ticket. You pay when you leave - waiting in a very slow service line. We found the food to be much more expensive than even the more expensive resorts and not all that great.

granball said:
Hi - concerning the claustrophobia, we were in building 9, and it was the side facing a small pond. It was really close to the pond (not the big one with the hammocks but a little one), and the sidewalk by the rooms were enclosed with a kind of partial wall, and it was very slim. It wound back and felt enclosed and close. The resort is absolutely huge, and perhaps the majority of the rooms and sidewalks don't have that feel of being closed in, but this one certainly did!

Someone mentioned massages - I had a massage there. It was a lovely young lady, but the problem was she had only been out of massage school for 3 months and the 90 minute massage cost I believe about $160-170 (I don't remember exactly but it was very expensive) plus a tip. She was very sweet so I tipped her, but I've gone for massages at my local massage school for $20 and had better massages. I would have complained but I didn't want to get the girl in trouble. I feel for the money you should get some experience and skill. If you get a massage at Disney, I would ask for an experienced therapist. Just another thing that made that particular visit less pleasant.

Personally, I find the CS to be far less beautiful than Port Orleans Riverside, and many of the upper level resorts. But perhaps it's a matter of taste. I like the lushness of Port Orleans and the Polynesian. I love taking that boat ride from PO to downtown disney through the wooded areas. It's fragrant and beautiful. I guess the CS just seems kind of barren in comparison to us. Wilderness Lodge is just beautiful. Though the pool is small, it's lovely. On the back end of the pool is a sandy beach on the large lake that feels like a New England lake with a bubbling brook leading up to it. Lots of beautiful flowers. With the boats, trees, wildlife and gentle waves, we couldn't get enough of the view. There are wooded paths to walk too. Very pretty!

Many of the resorts have unique attributes that make them special. As someone here said, they all seem to have pluses and minuses. I guess it's the old different strokes for different folks thing.

------------------------------------------------------------

And that my friend sums it up.

All the resorts have their pluses and minuses.

Also Mousekeeping can be a hit and miss no matter which resort you stay at.

JMHO

I also don't fall into either of the 2 catagories. We stay at the values because of the theming plain and simple. My kids love this resort and I get a bargain. We went to several deluxe resorts for dinner and my children were not impressed, to be honest neither was I. I think alot of people staying value are doing so because they have children and these hotels are more geared towards little ones. I think it is unfair to assume others financial situation or respectable upbringing based on the hotel they choose.
Also I think alot of the problems the OP experienced were due to the heavy crowds this time of year. I stayed at ASMo in 11/04 and loved everything about it. I never saw trash or smoking. We loved the food courts and the pools. Never heard excessive noise or toilets. Most importantly we were treated great by all staff members and I felt like they enjoyed there job. Maybe they didn't but they never gave the impression of being unhappy. When my 11yo dd bugged them about pin trading they were great, when something we ordered at a park showed up broken they handled it quickly and kindly. Dh had one bad experience with a girl cleaning in the food court but hey there is a bad apple in every bunch. I will say that I would have loved a larger bed since we have a king at home but what can you do. I hate to think that people would meet me and assume I am poor or trashy or lowclass because I opt to go value but hey everyone can think what they want and I'll enjoy my vacation all the same. :cool1:

I'm glad you chuckled at the grammar fix. I'm an English teacher (hence the user ID) and I can't help myself. My wife gets really bent out of shape because I usually point out her mistakes. I have been working on letting those mistakes slide, but I couldn't pass it up when combined with "uppity." It was just too easy.

I didn't really mean my comment as a broad generalization. As I stated in a followup, I don't think everyone there was abusing the resort. I have simply never seen people act that way at a Disney resort. There were some people--not all--who had no regard for the resort, its grounds, or the happiness of others around it.

I typically stay at affordable places when we travel. I don't make tons of money, that's for sure, so I'm not trying to come off as an elitist snob, although perhaps I did. I really wanted to have a magical Disney vacation, just like the previous trips. I had a good trip, not a great trip, and I blame most of that on my experience at the resort. We tried to save money on this trip because we needed extra space.

Like others have said, some people just don't like the value resorts. I must fall in that category. A few people have mentioned the theme of the resort as a reason to stay. My kids (5 and 7) enjoyed the theming, but they didn't rave about it. They didn't even want to visit Andy's room past the first day. All they wanted to do is watch channel 96. They had the cartoon loop memorized by the third day. :happytv:

Perhaps I just had bad luck. I'm not going to try the All Stars again, but I certainly understand its appeal. It does have nice theming, reasonable rates, and a hint of Disney magic. I just wish everyone at the resort would appreciate it and cherish it like I have seen at other Disney resorts.

Thanks for saying you were not making a broad generalization.

I also would like to apologize for being a little defensive also.

I just wanted to express my feeling that bad things happen at all levels of resorts.
And some peole have no regard for the resort, its grounds, or the happiness of others around it.........even at a moderate resort as poted tonight on the resorts board.

We had a great time at CSR !!!! But I have to say, I'm always amazed at how "piggish" people can be. The resort is so beautiful, and yet people do the most inconsiderate things to mess it up.

Things we saw (which were quickly taken care of, but still, unnecessary).

1. Pizza and Pizza box tossed in a bush near the cabanas

2. Bra (yes a bra), tossed in a bush near the cabanas
(hmm... must have been a fun time there).

3. Dirty rolled up diaper at the edge of the quiet pool.

4. Random beer cans and such left here and there....

5. even a couple of bottles tossed into the lake near the marina..

Mind you, all of these "sightings" were in the early morning, and the Cast Members quickly cleaned them up once noticed... but I'm saddened that people would have such little respect for the resort....

Even so, it was a beautiful resort, and the CMs were helpful, cheerful and attentive. We had some great towel animals in our room upon arrival, and Mousekeeping did a great job with the kids' stuffed toys (one afternoon we returned from the parks and they had done a window up with animals on a chair, the kids balloons, etc. I walked in the room to find the TV on (which I was sure I hadn't left on), only to find 2 of the kids stuffed animlas sitting on the bed with the TV remote between them.... it was so cute - the mousekeeper set it up so the stuffed animals were "watching" TV!!!!! I cracked up!).

All in all it was a great time!

CSR is still by far my favorite! :cheer2:

You might consider staying outside of Walt Disney World. We spent our first 6 nights at All Star Movies. When we were finished touring WDW we changed hotels to the Hilton Grand Vacations Club (while touring Sea World, Kennedy Space Center, and Universal Studios). We had several bad transportation experiences during our stay at WDW so we will probably never stay on-site again. You'll get better accommodations off-site for the $$ you pay for a Disney Value Resort. We toured WDW in the middle of May, so traffic was not an issue. Also, our party was just two adults. If you have young children or teenagers, the Disney transportation may be better for you, even though it is not the most efficient.

I look forward to reading the rest of your report. :woohoo:
