6 night deluxe, 9 Moderate, 12 value

This is not an exact scenario when daily food expenses and park tickets are considered but try to look past that...If you had the choice to stay 6 nights at a deluxe resort, 9 at a moderate, or 12 at a value what is your choice and why?

I lean towards staying longer at a value, but have a hard time comitting to that decision...let me know what you think.

If I HAD to choose from one of those, I'd choose the moderate. We've never stayed in a value, but we did visit ASMo last year, and it was so tightly packed and noisy. So yes, I'd stay in WDW less time to stay at a moderate.

Now, you could always do a split stay too...a few days at a value or moderate and a few at one of the less expensive deluxes (AKL or WL).

I'm torn between 6 at a deluxe, and 9 at a moderate. In the end, I'd probably give in to the deluxe I like the values for a few nights, but I wouldn't want to stay at one for twelve.

Thats a hard one. I refuse to pay the prices to stay at a deluxe so the only way I would stay there was if there was a discount. I love POR so 9 nights there would be great. I've stayed 10 nights in a value and had no problem. I think I would stay...........12 nights in a value. Any thing to be at Disney longer.

I agree with WDWPolyPrincess - would not want to spend more than a few (5 being the limit) at a value (POP only) and if I am going to do 9 at a moderate I'd rather do 6 at a deluxe IF that deluxe would be Poly,GF, S/D, maybe YC....maybe AKL... but for 6 nights I'd prefer to be on the monorial so I could feel a million miles away from real life!! 6 nights at GF or Poly would feel longer - or it always does to me - even 3 feels like 5!

Which way are you leaning and what resorts?

Given the choices... 9 days at a moderate. We've stayed at CBR (4 times), POFQ, BCV, OKW (3 times), AKL, and ASMu. We HATED All Stars, so wouldn't want to stay there 12 days. AKL was okay for a couple of days... but CBR would have been fine, too. Yes, the animals were cool, and the lobby was cool, and I'm glad we've stayed there once. But I'm not addicted to Deluxe like I am DVC.

I'd probably pick the moderate and eat some nice sit down dinners at the deluxes.

For my trip in May, I want to stay for 8 or 9 days- I can't afford that long at a deluxe so I think I'm going to split it between Pop and a monorail resort. -Steph

I'd prefer 12 at a moderate, but given those choices I would go with 12 at the value, I can't imagine going and only staying 6 or even 9 days - we were at POFQ for 14 nights last month and that wasn't long enough.

We have often moved hotels, so an optoin of 9 at a value and 3 at a deluxe would probably be what we would be most likely to do.

We are DVC members at the Boardwalk and are going there in Feb and then
November for 12 nights. Close friends of ours are going in May and we are considering either 5 to 7 at Deluxe or Moderate or 9 to 10 at All Stars to meet them. I'd prefer more time with friends so we are leaning All Stars.

I tend to agree with WDWPolyPrincess as well but no matter what.. it's a hard choice to make... if I had to face it though.. I would go with the 9 days

For me, the resort is a big part of the Disney experience. So I think I would take the 6 days at the deluxe. Nine days at a moderate is tempting, though. We have never stayed at a moderate, though we want to try POR. However, I would be leary about booking a 9 day stay there for my first moderate experience.

Could you extend the number of days at a deluxe or moderate if you had an AP and booked at the AP rate? If you are staying past 7 days anyway, an AP would be your best ticket value and there are good AP rates. We booked WL on an AP rate in mid-Dec 2003 for $135 a night. I just noticed you are a DVC member. Did you know we get a $100 discount off APs after 1-2-05?

We kind of had that choice over our vacation. Originally I was looking at the Beach Club Villas. But, after looking over the expense, I realized that by staying at two different moderates, we could get two vacations instead of one. With at least seven days each! And, with annual passes the second one is paid for in that area. Have fun in your 'research'.

I would choose 2 trips then and split up the time. More than 6 days at WDW would be a little too much for me. I love going, but in small doses. I'd take 2 5 day trips, the level of resort would depend on when I was going. For a winter trip, I'd go for a value since I wouldn't be using the pools anyway. For a summer trip, I'd go deluxe since then I'd spend less time at the parks and more at my resort. Moderates are good for any time of year.

I loooove the deluxe resorts....the Grand Floridian is an incredible experience, just heaven to me. I also love AKL and have had some great stays at the Boardwalk Inn and the Beach Club. Still, I would choose six days at GF over any other choice, hands down.

If you are leaning for a moderate, I would vote for the Port Orleans French Quarter for nine days--or a split between POFQ and Caribbean Beach if you wanted to change scenary midway through. I just stayed at the POFQ and absolutely loved the place, even though I usually have stayed deluxe. It was a great resort. I thought Port Orleans Riverside was too spread out and we were in the building that's supposed to be closest to everything (Magnolia Terrace). It's been refurbished since I stayed there and I'm sure is beautiful now, but I strongly preferred French Quarter for the sake of convenience, theming and the single bus stop.

I wouldn't go for 12 days at All Stars, unless you wanted to switch resorts and try six days at an All Star and end up with three at a deluxe (AKL is truly a unique experience that I highly recommend in addition to GF--its wonderful there). You could do most of your theme park visiting while staying at the All Stars and end the trip w/ a three night stay at a gorgeous deluxe and relax at the end of the trip with a lot of resort time.

I'd choose 12 at a value in a heartbeat! I've done 10 nights in values a couple of times and it works great for us. Afterall I'm at WDW for the parks and the resorts are just secondary. Now spending 10 nights at a value and the last two at a deluxe is my favorite. I get the best of both worlds and leave with the deluxe relaxation fresh in my mind. If I stayed at a Deluxe too long I would never want to go to the parks.

I would definately stay longer at a value.

The deluxes are nice and everything, I've stayed at the Poly and the CR, but I'd pick more time at WDW any day over less time in a nicer hotel. I rarely spend any time at all in my hotel room so I can't see spending the extra money for a long trip.

Of course, I've never stayed at a value before. I am staying at Pop in a few days. I have previously stayed at Poly, CR and POR, and POFQ. But I can not imagine it being so bad that I'd chose to knock a few days off my trip to stay elsewhere...

My pick would be 6 days at a deluxe. I just love the convenience and feel of GF. Maybe you could door something like 6 days at a moderate and 3 days at a deluxe.

It's amazing to see the number of different viewpoints on this. I think a lot depends on how often you get to go to Disney World. We only are able to go on vacation (other than visiting relatives) once every 2 or 3 years. My instant choice was 12 days at a value (though I've never stayed at a value).

I think if you know that you are going back in 6 months or even a year, you would be more inclined to pick the deluxe for six days.

The past two times we've been to Disney, we've stayed as guests of my parents in their off-site time share and had a wonderful time.

My vote would almost always be for LONGER time!

I would choose 9 nights in a moderate. Although I primarily stay at Deluxe and DVC properties, I would have no problem staying at a moderate if that meant I could stay longer. I prefer a resort that has a nice pool with a slide and hot tub, good transportation and a place to get a quick meal.

Here are my opinions on the advantages/disadvantages of each level:

Advantage of Value over Moderates and Deluxes
* Price.
* Pop Century has its own bus.
* All Stars resorts share busses, but there is usually very little wait on either end.

Disadvantage of Values
* Small rooms.
* Large groups can sometimes be rowdy.
* No pool slide or hot tub.
* external corridors.
* Pizza delivery only.

Advantage of Moderate over Values
* Nicer feature pools with slides and hot tubs.
* Bigger rooms.
* Sit-down restaurants (all but POFQ).
* Real bars in main area plus pool bar, not just pool bar (except POP).
* Nicer food court, it's not just one big room.
* No giant icons.

Disadvantages of Moderates
* Can be spread out and most need an internal bus system.
* External corridors.
* Pizza delivery only.

Advantage of Deluxe over Moderates and Values
* Bigger rooms yet. Many can sleep 5 people.
* Large variety of sit-down restaurants.
* Nicer feature pools, many with zero entry.
* Internal corridors.
* All have sliding glass doors and most have balconies or patios.
* Most have special proximity to parks: monorail/boat to MK, walk/boat to
Epcot/MGM.
* Room service.
* Valet parking.

Disadvantage of Deluxes
* Epcot deluxes do not have snack shops for a quick meal.
* Price.
* Busses are often shared, especially the Epcot resorts. The ride can take a long time.
* Self parking can be difficult, especially at the monorail hotels.
