My husband just bought a golf cart to bring along with us when we camp, and we are planning on taking it with us when we come to Disney in November... We are looking at trailers, and are wondering if one with the 'skinny' tires (as opposed to normal size car ones) would be ok for a 1200 mile trip one way? Also, can anyone recommend a camera system that won't cost a fortune but will allow us to watch what is going on behind the 5th wheel. And of course keep an eye on the golf cart :)

A good quality ST tire (Maxxis) would be fine on an equipment trailer. Keep on mind that towing doubles is illegal in GA, FL, AL, MS, and generally everywhere in the southeast. I see people doing it, and I probably would too myself on shorter trips. But if you get caught and are forced to drop the trailer hundreds miles from home it would be a big problem.

First thing I would do is check with the company who made your trailer and see if the frame will carry the extra pull. I know, a lot of people "do it", but that doesn't make it safe. If your frame isn't designed for it and something would happen a "sharp" insurance adjuster will know and you will be holding the bag.

As to the trailer, 12" tires should work just besure you have the right air pressure in them. But the larger the better.

Doubles are legal in Mississippi, but are not legal in Florida. That said, in December I towed our golfcart behind our fifth wheel from Louisiana to Fort Wilderness with no problems. I was very nervous everytime I would spot law enforcement but was never bothered by them. In May we went back but this time I borrowed a tow vehicle that I could load the golf cart behind the cab and still pull the fifth wheel. Here is a picture:

It was a much better trip not worrying about having to leave the golf cart on the side of the road somewhere.

Pulling double trailers is illegal in Georgia ,Florida, and South Carolina. Here in SC if you get stopped you will have to unhook one trailer and have it towed along with the ticket.

There is always the option of a swivel wheel on the back of the 5er. I have one we used when we had a 5er don't need it any more.

That is an awesome rig there. But how did you manage to pull it through the fort and back that thing up??? I'd be fine for the long haul on the highway, but don't ask me to get off. I'd be scared to death.

It wasn't bad. The truck is only 3 feet longer than a crew cab dually pick-up. We checked in, got our site assignment and went straight to the hook/unhook pull-out and unloaded the golf cart. We then left the truck and camper in the pull-out to check out the site assigned to us. It was a no-go so we went back up front and got another assignment. It backed in with no trouble on the second site they gave us. The first site was in the 700 loop and the second one was in the 1000 loop.

My husband is going to be calling around to find out what the scoop is. He thought as long as it was a 5th wheel, and you are under the length, you are ok pulling one trailer behind it. Here they are allowed one bumper hitch, and the 5th wheel doesn't count, so. Guess we will find out. Maybe I won't need to buy a trailer after all! :(

Legality aside, I saw multiple double-trailers on the road here in SC this weekend. Some were even travel trailers pulling a second trailer. I think many LE officers look the other way here unless you are doing something really stupid.

Even if LE ignores you, as mnsprk said -a sharp insurance adjuster will cancel any coverage in an accident if you were driving illegally.

I totally agree with you guy's and that's what's kept me from double or triple towing. I say the hell with it and sell the golf cart and my problem is solved. Goodbye golf cart.

i've tried pulling doubles. It was a pain inm $ss. Everytime I pulled off the highway for gas, I would worry about the problem of not being able to back up. Switched up to the swivel and haven't had a problem at all other than a flat once. Now I carry a swivel spare.

Do like we did, and traded in our 5'ver for a toyhauler fifthwheel instead! We can fit our 2 Harley Street glides plus our golf cart! Problem solved! :yay:

Very temped to trade it in. Its a 2011, only had a few months but its been in the shop a lot. Apparently Forest River thinks that having heat in only half the rv is just fine and how it was designed. They did not like my response.

I live in Georgia, and a few years back did a lot of research on this very topic. I went to my local county sheriffs office and asked. Spent lots of hours online and could not get an answer. I then went to the Georgia state patrol and eventually spoke with the branch commander and here is what he said. In georgia the first trailer has to be a 5th wheel or a goose neck trailer, and that weight limits would be determined by the tow vechile and that for recreational vehicles there was not a length limit. He went on to say doubles are legal in Georgia just look at all the tractor trailer doubles. Then his finnal advice was not to worry he gets asked this question all the time by cops an civilians and no one knows the answer. That being said I was unable to get a answer for Florida.

We pull doubles an average of 4 times a year form Atlanta to the fort and have never had a problem. I know one day Barney Fife from some hick town will pull me over and give me a real hard time. It is sad when you go to the lengths I have for the written codes and failed.

When i pull doubles i can't tell the second trailer is there. Do your own research and be carefully

We were able to get ahold of a very nice man at the Florida state patrol. He said it is illegal, but they usuallly don't bother out of state people. BUT he said he could not guarentee that a patrol officer would always be so forgiving. So basically, its a crap shoop, you take a chance you will run into someone that is having a bad day and wants to share it. I called Kenny and found out what his rates are. For what he is asking, I don't even want to bring my own!! Would cost more in gas to tug it down there than to pay him to bring me one. He is way cheaper than Disney!
