With universal restarting work on epic universe expected opening end of 2024 do we think once pandamic is over Disney will respond with a number of announced new attractions for around that time or go further and open a 5th gate?

I think they should really invest in animal kingdom with a couple of new lands opening 2024 with at least 5 top quality attractions there is the room and defenitely needs more there. A land around mythical creatures would be good and possible expansion of pandora to tie into sequal around that time with winged/flying coaster and dark ride.

In my dreams Disney would go further and directly compete by opening a 5th gate that is distinctively different to anything at Disney or for that matter anywhere. Namely a park based on action/horror and si fi using the IP they acquired from fox such as X files/ die hard. Could have numerous extreme rides and dark horror ride using latest technologies to make something completely unique not seen worldwide before.

Disney just lost a tremendous amount of money because of the pandemic. Any plans for a fifth gate? Probably gone for a very long time.

I also can’t imagine using dated IP would be a huge draw.

I don't think it's likely anytime soon but yeah, a ride with an audio animatronic Moulder and Scully would be cool. :)

I think a 5th gate is probably 10 years away at least. This pandemic sent Disney for a real spin. In the interim, though, I think Tron and Ratatouille should be online soon enough.

Yes I understand Disney and all theme park operators lost a lot of money but that doesn't negate the fact that disney still keep an eye on competition and invest to retain guests.

Epic universe is planned to be larger than magic kingdom with extensive theming and making use of latest technologies for the attractions. Probably will be be 2 day park and eat into the number of Disney quests.

It would be negligent of Disney not to have plans to try and compete even if that is just a couple of big attractions in existing parks.

Not investing because lost money during pandamic could be false economy if in long run people spend less time in Disney parks.i.e foreign tourists coming to Orlando for a week currently probably spend most time in Disney and only a day at universal.

After epic universe is build the footfall could be reversed.

It has been a while since the post but think 5th park is possible once the whole celebration settles down. Personally I am against the idea overall because the current parks have room to expand which is cheaper and adds capacity. Logistics make more sense. AK probably will include things like Raya and maybe more. Also they already have let some repairs and updates slip at current parks. In the end they need new rides (not replacing rides). They also seem to believe new lands equates to one or two rides and tons of shopping/eating. Disney may need more focus or punishment from the consumer before they realize they are falling behind. Too few new rides that handle the demand while older rides are becoming stale and cannot compare.

I don't know if you have been on RotR yet, but it makes most other rides pale in comparison. Galaxy's Edge with RotR is the most amazing thing Disney World has done since...I don't even know. If they build parks as great as DHS is right now, then I'm looking forward to a new gate. MMRR is fun and cute, SDD is the smoothest roller coaster I have EVER been on, ToT still terrifies me, RnRC is perfect (maybe I'm biased because I love Aerosmith!), TSM blows the Buzz Lightyear ride at MK away, the restaurants are top notch, and the atmosphere is just so engaging.

There was a time when DHS had few rides and was considered a 1/2 day park at best but they changed all that with something like four new rides in five or so years. Disney is in the process of adding the Remy ride at Epcot and Tron at MK is going to be amazing. They are also going to re-theme Splash Mtn. I think they are doing a pretty good job of adding attractions, but I do agree that some of the older rides are getting stale (I'm looking at you Buzz Lighter Ranger Spin!)

I have rode it and love it. I am a big Star Wars fan anyways. It's been 5 plus years for all those attractions you brought up and they are all in one park which was already underdeveloped and still has room to grow. Increasing capacity is the main topic I am discussing in my comment and adding on is easier than building from scratch. If we can have both that's great but a new park means more bus routes, new roads, parking, park staff. It just is a lot more when in reality they can add another 2 lands to AK, 1 to HS, and maybe even another at MK. Plus they have older rides that need attention.

Not everything they are adding is bad but after all Remy and Tron are just copies and dropped here. Excited but still think it's not enough. Adding even simple rides like something to England in Epcot or a new dark ride at AK can go a long way. Every new ride has been dragged out and pushed as a big draw. Taking rides out and replacing isn't as helpful. Wasting money on splash still annoys me too... They should give her a new ride.

As mentioned Disney lost a lot of money this last year. Galaxies Edge opened about 18 months ago. They are just opening the extension to France with the Ratatouille ride.
In the next year Tron and GoTG will open. They still have plans to redo Splash.
Maybe a few ride additions in AK when Dinoland is.
I don't expect to see anything new after that for a few years.

I would agree about a gate but just watch. Universal 2024 will awaken a need for more large projects. Galaxies edge was a lot just to add 2 rides. MK fantasyland needs work along with a lot of areas. This could come sooner than they like to admit. The scale of WDW requires big spending and I think about 4 to 5 years from now it will come.

I can’t see Disney doing a whole park that trends less family friendly, but it would be cool if they used some of their newly acquired IP for new park content. They could give us a Princess Bride attraction!
