Is there anything noticeably different between the Deluxe Oceanview and the Deluxe Family Oceanview...both with verandahs? I know its listed as 50 sq ft bigger, looks like a chair in the 4A...anything else I'm missing? Are the verandahs the same size?

The rooms are indeed bigger. The 4A sleeps 4-5 (double bed, bunk, couch and sometimes a Murphy bed) while the 5A sleeps 3-4. The verandahs are the same size. When the beds are closed, we feel you notice a difference in the space you have to move around.

I'm presuming you are talking about the Dream class ships. On Wonder and Magic, a Cat4 always sleeps 5.

It also depends on the ship. On the Dream and Fantasy the bathroom is different. The 4A's have a large round shower with a rain head (no attack of the shower curtain!!) instead of the typical tub/shower combo in the 5A's. We loved that on the Fantasy, but have never felt it worth it to upgrade on the classics as the bathrooms are the same in both Category 4 and 5. We are a family of three though, and Category 5 cabins are plenty large enough for us. For larger families I'm sure the extra space in the Category 4's is nice.

On the Magic and Wonder, the difference is that the room is a few feet deeper (from hall door to veranda door), which allows for a chair and a twin bed that folds down from the wall. The verandas of 4A/B and 5A/B/C are the same size.

On the Dream and Fantasy, Category 4s are deeper than Category 5s and have the extra chair. The verandas are the same as in Category 5. Most, but not all, of the Category 4s have the down-down bed. Also, the tub is also round rather than square.

When we travel with 2 adults and 2 kids, we prefer the Category 4 room. With just 1 kid, we have enough space in the Category 5.

We will be on the Dream...its only two of us, but being my first cruise, I'm not sure if ill more comfortable in a slightly larger room. The round shower is definitely a plus. Thanks for the input

On the Fantasy, the extra chair was removed from 4As that sleep 5 some years ago now. The chair is still in most of the 4s that sleep 4 although someone reported of one cabin in which that was not true. Not sure if that is also the case on the Dream.

I've stayed in both a 5A and a 4A and as others have said, aside for the round shower on the newer ships, the room is just about 4-5 feet longer in a category 4. I personally think the 5s are large enough, but the 4 was also really nice. For me it comes down to the difference in price. One cruise it was $149 and I paid it. Our last cruise the difference was around $3,000. I was happy to keep my 5A that time. A few extra feet isn't worth that much to me. ;)

On the Magic and Wonder all the 4A's are on deck 8, which some folks might not like due to being right under the pool deck and getting noise from up there.
