?

I would recommend getting a stroller for anyone ages 7 and under. especially if you're going during the hot months. The heat can really take a toll on a child and it might be good for them to sit in a stroller and rest. I have a 1, 5, and 7 year old and we'll be getting the double stroller. The 5 and 7 year old will probably take turns riding. As long as you can push it then why not. Your children will be much happier.

ROTFLMAO!!!!! Depending on how tall you are I think you might find a wheel chair more comfortable! :p

Honestly WDW should come out with an "adult stroller",no special entry to lines or anything, just like a stroller for the kiddies...nice canopy and it reclines. There would probably be a lot more happy faces at WDW if Mom and Dad got a walking break now and then! :teeth: :p

Anyway Erich's last stroller trip was when he was 5 and a half.:earsboy:

This reminds me, in May when we were walking past the Teacups in the MK, we saw three DADS sitting in the shades in the kids strollers relaxing..it was a hoot and we thought it a good idea..An adult stroller sounds good to me, maybe they were the test subjects for one...:sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Maybe it's just me, but I hate to read the posts about how the stroller is to keep the kids from collapsing, getting overly cranky, whining. Wouldn't a break do just the same? If my kiddo was getting out of sorts, I'd head to the pool, for a nap or something where they could get a little rest/relaxation. When do you stop pushing the kid around in a stroller and let them get whiny/cranky/gripey? I'm probably as in need of a break as the kids are by that point.

I think the point is a stroller keeps your child from getting to that stage.
We used a stroller for my 5 and 8 year old on several days this past trip. They were able to enjoy the parks more and so was I. Both my kids are very small for their age, but I saw much bigger kids useing them. The Disney strollers are fine for bigger kids (really not as good for little ones, no recline).
I can honestly say that my kids never complained whined or got cranky on this trip (unless you count the pleading to stay longer on our last day).

Where to begin? First, why o why do so many people believe that using a pool is restful? A half an hour after using the pool, kids (and adults) are usually wiped out, especially if they were already tired / cranky. Taking a nap: Many kids, while they may be tired, are not about to take a nap back at the hotel room at the most incredible child's play area on Earth.

Leaving and then re-entering the park takes alot of energy also unless you are staying at the park's resorts. You have to fight the crowds getting out, wait for a bus or hike it to your car, drive / ride for 20+ minutes to the hotel, hike it to your room, etc. It is a much better choice to simply reduce you child's effort to 20% of walking by riding in the stroller. Plus an adult should easily be able to greatly outlast children 7 and under when everyone is walking so the stroller evens the playing field a little bit. And your tired/cranky child may just take a nap in the stroller. Mine do.

My son rode in the stroller until he was 7. It helped him to keep up with the older siblings. If a stroller will make things easy on the child, and Mom and Dad, then why not?

I agree with the above post that taking a break is not always the easiest thing to do . Especially for those staying off site.:sunny:

Once, at MK in the heat of the day, I saw a pregnant lady curled up sleeping in a double-size rental stroller. (Well, I think she was pregnant; she looked to be about 5-6 months along. Definitely an adult, though.) The stroller was parked near Space Mtn.

I've actually seen small adult women riding in the double strollers many times, usually with babies on their laps.

I remember going to MK myself when I was 7. No stroller, and I did fine all week! But it was also fall (Oct. I think) so it wasn't hot (it was cold in fact, too cold to swim even). Summertime, I might have wanted one! Heck, I'd want one now! :moped:

I say, if the kid can fit and doesn't mind being in one, and you don't mind pushing it, then any age is fine! Who cares what other people think, anyway? You'll never see them again!

DITTO!!!!!!

However, for those of you who do worry, I may still be willing to sell you a doctor's note (hey, gotta get more points some way)LOL.

Seriously, If you don't mind pushing and the child doesn't mind riding, then push away. I find that most children start to become embarrassed about riding in a stroller around age 7 or 8 and will take themselves out of the stroller.

Now adult strollers--I like it!

MY daughter is 7 (will be 8 when we are in WDw) She told me to get the stroller. She said " I will get tired".
I will get one..

Our kids will be 4, 5 and 6 when we go to WDW in July. We have a double and a single umbrella stroller. Walking forever in that heat and humidity zaps their energy. ALthough the older ones would never use a stroller at home I would never think of not using one on vacation. For one thing we would probably travel at a snail's pace if they were walking, and for another think I use the stroller baskets for our stuff! It just makes everything easier for everybody. I know some people don't like to see the bigger kids in the strollers, but I say to each their own. WHatever makes your vacation easier for your family is worth it.

My dd, 7, is mad that I told her I'm bringing a stroller. Not for the parks, though.

Our return flight is at 6am  We'll need to be at the airport by what, 4:00, 4:30? It's just the two of us, and I simply can't carry her. She says she'll be awake. Right. I'd rather have a stroller to dump if I need it. And one to dump her in when we land, too!

Heat is a factor
The kid him/herself is a factor (my son is a good walker, my daughter isn't)

Two that haven't been mentioned: What park you are in - In MK most of the stuff is close together. Even with small children our strller would get parked in a "land" and only moved as we moved from Fantasyland over to Adventureland. MK is pretty easy to do without a stroller.

MGM is also pretty tight.

AK is tight (except for the Safari) unless you do the trails, in which case you are in for a lot of walking.

Epcot is really spread out and even a good walker might want a stroller there.

The other one that hasn't been mentioned is how "commando" you go. If you have a limited time to get through four parks and a need to do them as effieciently and happily as possible in that time frame - a stroller may be necessary - it will allow children to participate in longer days at a faster pace and in a better mood. If you have plenty of time, go frequently so don't care if you miss something this time and can afford a leisurely pace with your six year old dwaddler - along with a stop back for a nap or a swim midday - you may wonder at why anyone would have a six year old in a stroller. Unfortunately, not every has the leisure to take the parks slow.

Here is the thought of a person without kids...

*I* would not get a stroller for anyone over 6 as I think kids need to walk...It is good for you. If it were a really hot day, I would say get one...Heck I wanted one at AK when it was 90 out there...

but here is the thing.....

Each Parent knows their child...If you want to push a stroller, then do so...

I would much rather see a happy child in a stroller than one crying child being dragged around the park crying and snotty...If you get bad looks from people...do this to them  :hyper: and walk away laughing...Who cares what people think.

I'm 32 and wear pig tails at WDW and get excited over Timon so WHO CARES...No one knows you there anyways.:teeth: ;)

Last year was the first time we didn't use one - my DD was 9. Even then, I wished we'd hired one on the odd occasion - in July around the World Showcase! But we did OK.

As a teacher, I am sick of parents who pander to their child's every whim instead of occasionally saying no. I have kids that I teach (7,8,9 years) who moan about walking to a location around the corner from school because they get driven everywhere and yet where I live there are so many easy footpaths. So maybe at 5 or pushing it, 6 a stroller would be ok, but give your kids breaks, some decent sleep and good food and it will be way easier.

We are headed down in December and will decide if we will get on for my two little ones (5 & 7). I really kind of want one because with my back I actually do better pushing something than just walking.

We went last Dec with DS, who was 4.5+. We used the stroller hear and there. Generally, I would say it was necessary. But if we were only heading out for the afternoon or morning, we would chance it and go without it. But, much longer than that...I wouldn't. Even though he is big for his age, his little legs take two or three steps for every one I take. So I figure he should wear out much earlier than I.

We are going back in August. He will be over 5 now ( birthday april 15--tax day). Even though I don't recall him being in his stroller since our last trip, I plan to take it. I know he will need the rest.

Do what you think is best. I really don't think there is a right or wrong answer to your question.

I think kids older than 6 should not be in stroller. My daughter is 8 years old and their is no way in "heck" that I am going to push her in a stroller. We take breaks for me not for her. I am the one who needs the breaks. She is so excited about being at Disney she is ready to go and I am slowing her down.

I do not cater to my daughters every whim and she know that "big girls" do not ride in strollers. My daughter did comment on our last trip to Disney how many big kids where riding in strollers.

But, it is not just the kids who are whinning and lazy. I find a lot of parents don't want to walk, including my own. I remember my mother literally "driving" across the street to my middle school graduation "____" years ago! (pick a number). I mean the school was literally across the street.

I still talk about that to this day! My mother is healthy and very blessed that she has her good health but she is EXTREMELY LAZY! Alot of parent pass that down to their children.
