.

I'm not sure Pembo, but just wanted to wish you good luck with your surgery....

I didn't feel like doing a whole lot after my knee reconstruction, but I'm glad I did bring some "freshen up" items like my toothbrush and some scented lotion. Pain medication made me dizzy so I never got to the books & magazines I brought along!

Hope all goes well for you,
take care!:)

That depends on what kind of surgery you are having. I had thyroid surgery in 2001, and the incision was across the front of my neck about 3 inches long. So my surgeon told me to bring a buttoned shirt instead of a pullover. I really didn't feel like reading or doing puzzles when I woke up from surgery, so I just watched TV. I was only in overnight. Other than "surgery friendly" clothing and your personal toiletries, I can't think of anything else. I didn't bring pajamas, I don't know if they will let you in your situation. Maybe a robe for walks in the hallways. And slippers. And your teddy bear....
:)

I hope your surgery goes well, prayers and pixie dust out to you.

Pembo, I pray that everything goes smoothly with your surgery and that you have peace and not worry.

As a nurse I see some patients who bring in everything they possibly can in order to ensure their comfort.
Other people bring nothing!

Some things you might want to consider:
A Fan
A couple of good books/cross word puzzles
Comfortable slippers
Your pillow

Patients sometimes get too warm on our floor. We have a certain amount of fans available, so some families bring in a fan for their family member. Also, a fan can mask out other noises that occur all times of the day and night in the hospital.

I had major neck surgery 25 yrs ago but I don;t remember what I took with me. I was pretty out of it for several days afterwards so I don't remember doing too much.

Good luck to you!

good luck with your surgery - hoping for a quick recovery

I was in the hospital when I had DS by c-section 12yrs ago. Went into hosp Thurs night (he was born Fri morn), didnt leave till Tues morn.

Maybe you could bring your pillow or blanket from home or a favorite stuffed animal for comfort.

You will be in my thoughts. I hope all goes well. :flower3:

Barb, I've never been through any of this, but I just wanted to wish you all the best

I had a hysterectomy a couple of years ago. I was glad I brought my slippers and robe, and ear plugs (I'm a light sleeper) along with my toiletry items.

Wishing you a safe and successful surgery and speedy recovery! :)

I guess it would depend on how long you will be in the hospital and what you will feel up to doing.

The only major surgery I've had within the last few years was donating a kidney to my brother. I was only there for 2 days after the surgery so I didn't bring any books or magazines. I spent the time sleeping or walking to visit my brother.

The only thing I can really suggest is/are pajamas that you are comfortable walking around the hospital in. That and someone to sneak in some GOOD food for you!!!;)

You'll be in my prayers.

I wish you all the best. How long will you be in the hospital?

My only suggetion to bring is to wear slip on shoes to and from the hospital (nothing you have to bend down and tie).

herc.

I had unexpected surgery in February and was only in overnight.
I didn't bring anything with me because I thought I was only going to the ER but ended up getting admitted and having surgery.
I was too sick after my surgery anyway to get up and freshen up and I wasn't allowed out of my hospital gown until I got discharged.

Take the normal things you would take if you were having less serious surgery.. You know - nightgowns, slippers, hairbrush, toothbrush, a book or magazines, etc.. Although these will be of no use to you in the ICU (I'm assuming you will be there for a bit due to the nature of your surgery), you will want them when they move you..

I'll be praying REAL hard that all goes well.. Is there someone in your family that could keep us posted on your progress?

You will be in the thoughts and prayers of everyone here and I'm SURE it's going to be okay..

Chin up!

Hugs,
C.Ann

after 13 trips to or my bvag just stays packed,, they are doing facial reconstruction,, so its same general area,, definately a button up shirt,, sweats or pull on pants were nice as well as slip on shoes,, bending over after cranial surgery will prolly be a major no no anyway, is with my surgeon\s anyways,, i always take a lil stuffed froggy keyring back pack to hide my jewelery in, i take my cell phone, and chargrer, ?( check with hospital may or may not be allowed,, my nurses are ussually open to my having it since i am over 3 hours from home) i take my breifcase with a scetch pad, colored pencils, a book just in case i can read, basic toiletries, a robe , a change of pjs if going for more than over night, dont take cd players or radio cause you wont want headset oh yeah take your local phone book, and your personal phone book especially if you are out of town to have surgery.

wishing you the best , prayers and pd on the way, best of luck and hope all goes well. anytime you need a friemnd in similar shoes,, happy to listen to surgical vents, :)

I had major surgery 14 years ago. Take a robe and slippers. Also I found that having a CD player with a few favorite CD's really helped get me through the night. I found it very hard to sleep in the hospital so I was up most nights. A CD player or AM/FM radio really helps pass the time especially when you just want to close your eyes and not watch TV.

Good luck with your surgery.

dont know what you are having done, but good luck!! i had thyroid surgery a few times...always had a button up shirt because the incision was on my neck...also brought "comfort foods" that i knew i would be able to handle when i couldnt eat the hospital foods...aside from toothbrush, brush-that type of stuff..bring mints or gum..i know i didnt feel like getting out of bed to brush my teeth right away, i couldnt --so gum and mints did hte trick!

I've had a couple of major surgeries. Take a book or couple magazines but don't expect to get much reading done. You'll be tired and woozy. Basic toiletries like comb, toothbrush, toothpaste. Scrunchie or 2 if you have longer hair to keep it out of your face. Favorite pillow or blankie. BABY WIPES. You can freshen up without ever leaving your bed. Don't bring much else. Jammies are nice but the hospital gown is designed the way it is for a reason. IVs and wound checking would be difficult in regular pjs or nighties.
