One student that was absent for 30 days that year sat under the air vent. Her parents put her in private school the next year.
) Turned out I was allergic to two things: we'd recently changed desks around, and I was now sitting next to a girl that had a cat at home...and I was so allergic to the cat hair that it was causing a reaction just from the hair on her clothes (no way to avoid it really). Also, in the move, I'd been placed up front...and the chalk dust was causing my allergies to act up even worse. Just by moving desks (away from the girl with the cat and away from the chalk board), it took care of the problem.
A friend teaches in that hallway and had the janitor poke around but he insisted there was nothing wrong yet she had to go on allergy medication in order to teach in her room. Schools don't want to put the money out to have inspections for mold.
