I got some FANTASTIC graduation gift ideas for my niece, ones which I used and she loved!!! from some very helpful Disers!!! I was hoping to get the same help with a thoughtful (budget friendly) 50th Anniversary gift ideas for a friend of the family. They are truly the people who need nothing, 1-home, 2-vacation homes. I really need a gift that is thoughtful but won't break the bank?? :confused:TIA!

Good luck. I think this is one of the hardest presents of all. At this point in most couples lives, they have all the things they need or have room for in their homes. I'd be thinking along terms of gift basket of food items, or a gift card for a restaurant they like...

The couple of 50th parties I've been to have been requests for Charity donations instead of gifts.

I really have no idea what to suggest otherwise. Some sort of scrapbook of important events and photographs or converting some family videos to DVDs or something? I don't know how close you are to the couple because that would require probably a family-type relationship to get access and LOTS of time.

A few years ago, my kids' grandparents were celebrating their 50th. While at Disney, we stopped in at the Christmas store and bought the ornament that is a big diamond ring with Minnie and Mickey in wedding attire sitting on it. We also got a stand for it and had their names written on the diamond part of the ring and the wedding date engraved on the stand. It wasn't very expensive, and they loved it. They still go on about how cute it is and have it in their living room.

Even with two or more homes money could be tight.Gift cards for lunch or dinner .Its always nice to get out for lunch.

We have been to few 50th celebrations that did not request no gifts or charity donations gifts. If it did say no gifts, I would respect that. If not, I would make a donation in their honor to a cause they might appreciate (their church, a disease some one close has, a education cause for a teacher etc). A nice card with notation of the donation would be appropriate.

I agree, this is a hard one! They are my Fil's good friends and they did not put in a request to not do gifts, I think it may be because their children are doing the party. I would venture to guess they would appreciate a donation in their name, I was thinking along the lines of a restaurant gift card. I love the Christmas Ornament idea! I am going to try Macy's and Kohl's as I was even thinking a nice picture frame??? for picture from the party?? Stumped on this one:scratchin

I don't know what you consider "breaking the bank", but the last 50th party we went to I bought 50 of the golden dollar coins (the golden colored Sacagawea dollars, not real gold dollars. That would definitely not be budget friendly ) and suspended them in a cheap glass jar with some decorative sand, tied it with a ribbon and wrote 50 golden dollars for 50 golden years. They liked it and thought it was cute and thoughtful.

For my in-laws 45th last year I made up a box. First I made a little certificate that had the date. Then I listed big news from that year and even that week Products that were first introduced (silly putty was one). I found the Oscar winners from that year and listed those.

Inside the box was music CDs with the number one song from the week they were married. I included a DVD of the Best Movie Oscar winner. TV shows that were popular, that kind of stuff. I had fun putting it together.

No idea if they liked it, but that's a LONG story for another post ;)

For my parents' 50th, we found a photo frame that said 50th anniversary. It had two openings for photos, so we put a copy of their wedding photo in one side and a current photo on the other side.

I know just what you mean ;)

Thank you all for the great ideas!!!

Recently, I saw a photo book that was made for a 50th anniversary. It was a hard cover that was made by one of their children with one of the online companies. They used digital photos that were taken of the couple around their beautiful property and included some lovely poems and such. The photos were posed in the same way that some wedding photos would be and the couple dressed up for the photo session. It cost around $30 to make the book.

I would give them a $50 bill. They can use it for what they want dinner, trip, home improvement, etc.

Photobooks are great but usually made by family. I'd do a bottle of wine or engraved frame or something monogrammed like a cutting board.

I love this!!

I'm not sure if this is in your budget (it's around $50), and if their kids are throwing the party, you may want to enlist their help for this...

You basically have all their friends and family call-in and record memories and stories, and basically tell them why it's great to have them as a friend. All those recordings are put onto a Keepsake CD. Maybe your friend can listen to it on the way to/from Disney.

My brother is also one of those people that have everything, and he loved getting it as a gift.

You get the toll-free number and the CD from a company called LifeOnRecord.
