Just returned from a magical vacation to WDW for 3 days followed by 7-day Western Caribbean Disney Cruise. Took my parents with us for their 40th anniversary. Went to MGM and met up with friends of theirs. Had PS for 50s PTC originally for 4 people and was able to get it changed to 7 people without a problem.
50sPTC:
======
We had Cousin Tim for our server and he picked up we were an outgoing group. The drinks were great but expensive, came in large glass with electric ice cube. The table ordered a few baskets of fries with gravy while waiting for dinner. 5 of us ordered the Pot Roast, 1 ordered Salmon and the other ordered Pasta.
The pot roast was delicious. HUGE portion of meat, enough for 2 people, fork tender. Salmon was good as was the pasta.
Now, I knew not to put my elbows on the table and avoided doing so. After 2 electric ice cube drinks (and being up for ~20hrs) I proudly informed Cousin Tim of that fact. He warned me to make sure I don't put them on the table. Well, as soon as his back was turned I tapped my elbows on the table, he immediately spun around and ordered me to stand in the corner. My family is loving this, I get up and half-heartedly stand in the corner for a second, turn to leave, and Cousin Tim is there telling me to get back in the corner. I quickly complied and stayed long enough for my father to get the requiste camera shot! It was loads of fun and we all laughed.
At the end of the meal, the peole who had ordered the salmon and the pasta (a mother and daughter)did not clean their plates and were instructed to stand and sing "itsy, bitsy spider". Between the giggles and laughs and flubbed lines they finally got through it and I captured it all on video.
Needless to say we all had a wonderful time along with some GREAT memories.
V&A's
====
We celebrated my parents 40th anniversary by starting off at Cirqe du Soleil for the 6 o'clock show followed by V&A at 9:30.
We were promptly seated and my parents were wished a happy anniversary. I did the wine pairings and highly recommend it to anyone who drinks wine. You do not need to be a wine connissuer to enjoy it. Dinner was $90, wine pairing $45, drinks ~$5 (Jack Daniels, Dewars, Drambuie).
Amuse Bouche: shrimp in a BBQ sauce
Iron Horse "Fairy Tale Cuvee" Brut, Green Valley 1997
Cold Appetizer:
-------------------
Me: Seared Tuna and Tartar with Jicama and Pickled Papaya (absolutely delicious) served with Riesling Kabinett Grans Fassian Trittenheimer, Mosel 2001 ( i fell in love with this wine).
DH, DM, DF: Roasted Duck and Sausage with watercress and Pistachio Salad. They all enjoyed this.
Warm appetizer
---------------------
Me: Hog Snapper with Artichokes, Preserved Lemon and Capers (again, absolutely delicious) served with Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc, South Africa 2000 (enjoyable)
DH, DM, DF: Braised "Kobe" Short Ribs with Roasted Mushrooms. They all enjoyed this.
Soup
------
DH, Me: Smoked Mussel Bisque (to DIE for! this was so delicious.)They bring out the soup bowls with a smoked mussel in the middle on top of some cream. There are now 4 servers at our table that have also brought out soup bowls for everyone and our soup is in individual gravy boats. They then pour everyone's soup at the same time. No wine with soup.
DM, DF: Gamebird Consomme, had a single, tiny ravioli in it. Again, my parents enjoyed it but weren't overly thrilled. (Actually, dad was a little concerned he'd still be hungry as the portions were not huge but more on that at the end)
Main Entree
---------------
DM, DF, Me: Grilled Prime Filet with Sweet Onion Puree and Burgundy Reduction served with Liparitya "Enlace" Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa 2000. Filet was cooked perfectly, again delicious. Wine was nice, not something I would buy for at home.
DH: Herb Crusted Colorado Lamb, Gnocchi and Roasted Garlic Jus, he enjoyed this
Cheese & Sorbet
---------------------
Me: Colston Bassett Stilton with Kumquat-Pear Chutney served with Mavrodaphne of Patras Boutari, Greece. (Cheese was wonderful and the wine was delicious, slighlty sweet, would love to have at home.)
DH, DM, DF: Sorbet Terrine with Glazed seasonal Fruits (they each enjoyed the sorbet, it was a trio of sorbets.)
Dessert
----------
DF, Me: Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee served with Peter Lehmann Botrytis Semillion, Barossa 1999 (creme brulee was good, not spectacular, DF and I share this as he is "stuffed"!)
DH: Hawaiin Kona Chocolate Souffle (delicious, the only time I tried something else all night!)
DM: Tropical Fruit Mousse in an Orange Scented Chocolate Purse (beautiful presentation, DM had me take a picture!, she loved it)
At the end of the meal they presented my parents with a choclotae card for their anniversary and my mother and i were given beautiful, long-stemmed red roses each. We also received a copy of our menu printed on 11x17" parchment paper and mounted on card stock with an embridery print on the menu side and black gloss with our name in gold on the outside. Victoria then took a picture of all 4 of us in front of the center table.
Cirque du Soleil tickets: $340
Dinner at Victoria & Albert's: $560
Celebrating my parents 40 years of marriage: priceless
