'50's Primetime or Sci-Fi Diner

I have tried both and I like 50s better...but I think you should try SciFi at least once! It was a fun experience and the burgers and desserts were good.

Ive been to Sci-Fi and once was enouhgh for me. It was very dark in the restaurant and when my ribs came I felt like I was chewing rubber. The waitress was very kind and went back to the kitchen and brought an amazing cheeseburger out to me. I want to try 50's but not sure yet. Love reading all these posts! My favorite restaurant so far in DHS is Hollywood&Vine. It may be a buffet, but it was some of the best food I had on vacation, especially the desserts!

Sci fi! We love it, it's one if our favourites, whereas 50's always seems to be a disappointment. We love the themeing at Sci fi, and some of the food is very good.

I was just at Sci Fi last week on an adults only trip with my sister. If we were a party of 3 and no one wanted to sit alone I would just request one of the tables instead of the traditional cars. The PP posted the pictures. I think this is a perfect solution. I had heard that the little round tables are reserved for walk ups - don't know if that is true but that is what we observed. A couple of groups came in and were told they could be seated at one of those tables. I'm sure if you have an ADR they would move you to a table without a problem. Would probably make a walk up person very happy!

Another note, we were the back row in a car with a family of 4 infront of us. I thought it would be awkward, but it was fine. We didn't feel like we were intruding or they were bothering us. It was actually much more secluded than eating in many of the other restaurants, like Chefs de France, where the tables are so close together.

This was my second time at Sci Fi, the first was with my DH and four children where we had a car to ourselves. That time we were in the front row and it did seem quite dark, it was fine for us as the kids were all 11 and older, plus you do have lights right on the dashboard of each row. This time we were in the last row and there is definitely more light back there with the kitchen right behind you. If you don't want it as dark I'm sure youu could just request a table closer to the back. As with anything, if you have specific request make sure you check in a little early and are willing to wait for your request to be accomodated.

The thing about 50's is that you have to get lucky with a good server or else it's like you're paying to eat at home. When we went, the server did nothing of what we expected and I was let down. Only once during our dinner did a server at another table make someone eat their food and made everyone chant "Chuga chuga choo choo!" The food we ate was nothing special but I heard you need to order pot roast or meatloaf... we had sandwiches. The atmosphere at the 50's PT was uncomfortable for me.

The food at Sci-Fi was nothing special either, but the atmosphere was awesome. There's no need for a good server since the entertainment was the restaurant itself.

Whenever someone asks a question like this, you almost always get contradicting points of view. It's so subjective. My two cents: DH and i eat at 50s Prime Time every trip! Love the pot roast and milkshakes and antics. We ate at Sci-Fi once, but didn't like the food or the darkness of the place. I was going to suggest Mama Melrose's as a pp did. It has very good food, but the service is sometimes slow. Good luck with your choice and have a great vacation!

I would go with 50s Prime Time if you want a full meal and not burgers or sandwiches. We tried getting the steak at Sci Fi last October and it was awful. It was all grizzle. However, if you’re just looking to have burgers and the like, that’s the place to be. Our favorite TS at HS, food wise, is Mama Melrose’s. Enjoy!

Thanks for everyones suggestions. It was greatly appreciated. We have been to '50's previously and liked the food but never experienced the antics that everyone had mentioned and that is why I was torn between the 2. I talked it over with both DH and DD and was told nicely, with no ands, ifs or buts about it, we are going to Sci Fi. DH said and agreed with PP that it is only 1 meal for a short time that he can live sitting by himself in the back. My DD has already said she is sitting in the drivers seat. So I gues I will be requesting a car to ourselves so that way DD can have her wish. :)

Nice! Great choice. I like that place. Its so much fun. When you check in, definitely request a drivers seat. I had to do this after discovering we'd be behind someone. My son (9 at the time) really wanted to be a 'driver' so i asked to be moved and they told me no problem. They will find us a seat in front, but i would have to wait a tad bit longer. I only wait a few min longer. No biggie. My son was happy.

Glad your hubby isnt scared of the dark. :lmao: Have a great time! :thumbsup2

I'm sure your daughter will love it!

We've been twice and both time got burgers and shakes and our kids (5 and 6 on first visit, 5 and 7 on second visit) could barely rip their eyes away from the screen long enough to eat their meal. They got their "driver's license" from our server and had a blast both times!

In fact, I suggested trying 50's PT or Mama Melrose for our most recent trip and there was such an outcry that I had to make ressies for Sci Fi once again.

It IS loud and dark in there but it was a really fun experience and it's a family favourite! Good luck!

Weird! My husband thought his sci-fi steaks were as good as the Cellier ones (he didn't have the filet mignon, but still), and he's definitely a foodie. We haven't ever had burgers at sci-fi and the food has always (with one exception) been good. The food sometimes arrive a bit cold though, but when we've mentioned that they've always brought us a new warm portion, so not really a problem. The atmosphere is still the main attraction though!!

My sister had the steak last week and thought it was good as well. She had it prepared black and blue. I had the turkey sandwich and it was good. My boys have had and enjoyed the burgers too.

I had the steak and it was dry :sad1: but yea it was the restaurant that I loved so much. I'm planning on ordering the ribs next time.

I am going to book sci-fi when my adr opens up on Monday. I have never been and I didn't know there were drivers seats and cars with what....3 rows?. Do all the kids get a license or only the children in the drivers seat? If so I will make a mental note (aka...phone reminder) to ask at the time we walk up. Any info would be great....I'm just getting into this thread and saw the mention of sci fi.
