I'm torn, should we do 50's Prime Time or the Sci Fi Dine-In Theater?

Which has better food? Are the Ribs at Sci-Fi any good..that is prob what DH and I both would order off the menu.

Tell me the good and the bad! I want to hear from people who may have done both.

better food in my opinion. The better atmosphere is a question of taste. I like campy movies so Sci Fi is fine with me but not my wife. Also the cars at Sci Fi can make it difficult to talk with a larger group.

My biggest complaint about Prime Time is that they serve greens without pepper vinegar. Unbelievable.

The peanut butter and jelly milkshake at Prime Time is fabulous!!! It sounds so weird, but tastes sooooooo gooooood

The food isn't the best but we had a blast with our group of 10 last year.

It's too loud to have a conversation in Sci-Fi. No one in our group of 14 finished their food and we were all starving.

50s PT is big fun and has better food. Not the biggest fan personally of Sci Fi.

The food at both is questionable at best. Not horrible, but nothing special. Depends on which atmosphere you like better.

I chose Sci-Fi because alot of the experience at 50's depends on your server, much like at Whispering Canyon. If they don't have "it", then the experience suffers. At Sci-Fi, the atmosphere is the experience.

I picked Sci-Fi just because we love the atmosphere. I wouldn't know about the ribs b/c we always stick with some sort of burger/fries type meal. And we always go for lunch.

We do like 50s Prime Time, too; but it does depend on your server to make the experience what it should be. The food for us is just okay. We always have dinner at this restaurant.

we like 50,s prime time better. Found it was very dark in sci fi & difficult to enjoy a meal sitting in the cars . We have done both but do prefer 50,s the best. :woohoo:

I LOVE the 50's Primetime Cafe!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: It is one of my favorites and a must dine for me on every trip!!! :yay: :yay: The food is great and so is the service!!:thumbsup2

Wish I could say the same for Sci Fi. Have tried them 3 times and won't go back. :sad2: The food is way too greasy for my taste  :crazy2: and the service was just so-so.

I would do 50's Primetime. I have been to both and I have to say that neither has very spectacular food, but 50's is a lot more fun. It's more of a show dinner. There is a lot of interaction with you and the waiter and it is just a lot better experience. Sci-fi is just watching a movie in a fake drive in theatre. No interaction there
50s is a lot more fun.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I like Sci-Fi - for both the food and the atmosphere. And we've always had good service.

However, it is true that having a conversation with anyone but the one sitting next to you is very difficult.

Also, I've had the ribs, and they were good, but it was a very small portion. If you're hungry, go with the burger - big and juicy. :thumbsup2

For food 50's prime time

For atmosphere it's a toss up. Depends on your taste. I like both.

I have eaten at both... and I have to say I prefer the Sci-Fi drive in. I love the unique atmosphere of it! When we ate at the 50's we had very poor service (so maybe if my server was better my opinion would be different). As far as food quality goes - I think they are both pretty average.

I love both. We did 50's our first trip in '06 for an early dinner then we did Sci-Fi this past April for lunch. The milkshake at Sci-Fi is one of the best I ever have had. If you can I would do both, just do one at lunch and one at dinner. We didn't get to go to 50's this past year because there were no ressies left. This year we booked far enough out that we will be able to book 180 days out. I plan on going to both next year :cool1:

We have eaten at the 50's twice (both times for lunch) and LOVED IT!!! The food is well prepared homestyle cooking, no burgers or ribs here, so if meatloaf, fried chicken, or pot roast isnt your thing, then don't go here.

We had dinner at the Sci Fi on the last trip (not the one we just returned from) and after about 5 min I found the "ambience" to be tedious...just exactly how many times can one watch a clip of the "50 foot tall woman" over and over again? Plus, you can't have a conversation with anyone in your party other than the one you are seated right next to, so when you tire of watching the same old clips over and over again, there's nothing else to do! As for the food, I really don't remember anything about it other than having those colored glo-cubes in the drinks. We opted not to go there this time.

50's Prime Time is great for our family. We tried Sci-Fi once and really did not enjoy it. The food was not particularly good or bad...just kind of blah. The setting is neat for about the first 10 minutes but sitting in the cars makes it hard for a group of more than 2. You aren't really able to talk to one another or have a "family expereince".

50's prime time is a much better atmosphere and much better food in my opinion. The kids love it and the servers are all fun. The first time we went my husband got in trouble for putting his elbows on the table, throwing a goldfish cracker at our daughter - all in good fun :-) as well as many other things and ultimatley he had to stand in the corner which made for a great photo opp and memory for the kids. The food there isn't "great" either but it is good. It's pretty much like home cooking.

For what it is worth we have been to 50's every trip we've ever made. We tried Sci-Fi the first time and have not been back since, nor do we ever plan to return. It just wasn't impressive for us.

Thank you all! The poll has decided for us, we are going to go with 50's Prime Time, it sounds like we'd have fun.

I keep trying 50's because so many people prefer it over Sci Fi, but I have to say, I find the food (with the exception of the s'mores) just as boring as the food at Sci Fi, and the atmosphere not as good. I think part of the problem is that 50's depends largely on the server interaction to make it special, and I must just give off too much of an introvert vibe to ever have one act like anything but a server.

Since I'm used to eating by myself, or at most with one other person, I have no problem eating in the slightly-odd car configuration at SF, and I love the film clips. I'm the complete opposite of the person who thought the loop was too short there--I think the whole film loop at SF runs around 40 minutes or so, while the 50's TV loop runs about 15 minutes. That, I get tired of, and I even really like the Dick Van **** Show.

I can see where a large party might have trouble at SF though--if you eat in the cars (which is part of the fun) half of you are probably going to be talking to the other half's heads.

I voted Sci Fi based on the FOOD...I thought it was a lot better than 50's Prime Time. But I liked the experience at PT. But sorry, food prevails over experience IMO.

i voted for Sci-Fi. We just returned from DW last weekend and had dinner on Saturday at PT 50's. The experience left us a little disappointed. First of all, our server was too busy with too many tables to pay any attention to anyone. When she came up the first thing she asked us was "were we on the dining plan".....does that matter in way of serving us or was that information needed to put the order in....probably. She told us all the same stuff, no elbows, no fighting...blah blah blah and then took our order....she was pleasant enough. Then we barely saw her after that. We ordered 2 salmons, 1 pot roast and 1 chicken. Their vegetables were horrible!!!! Mine were carrots and zucchini. Theirs were some sort of collard greens with some sauce that they preferred NOT to eat.......of course, she made the other 3 eat theirs when she found out they didn't with an airplane fork. They were good sports about it but it was really awful. Then she left and never came back until the family next to us left. She had to clear the table, sweep the floor and re-set the table. I asked her don't they have busboys to do that? Nope...at least they have food runners......Anyway, I did feel bad for her but her service to us was really bad. The total bill came to $98.00 including tip and the food and service was pretty awful. We won't be going back there for quite a while. My favs in MGM have always been Brown Derby and the Backlot express......we will continue to go there.
