I have eaten twice at 50's Prime Time. First time was with DH and we had a wonderful FUN experience. We were seated in one of the "kitchen" areas and had a terrific waitress! It was so much fun that I just had to take my granddaughters on our next trip. However, we got seated in a side booth and the waiter was just a waiter. All around us people were have a great time, and I even commented to our waiter about it. He "tried" to get into the act, but he failed miserably! I did complain a bit to the manager when we left, but alas, it was too late for the kids to experience this potentially fun restaurant. Our next trip is coming up with my b-i-l and his wife. I really want them to try this restaurant, but only if we will be able to sit in a kitchen and have Mom for our waitress! What was your experience?

Request Cousin Amanda... she is really great and entertaining! Much of what happens depends on what you put into it. Our "mother" was kind of laid back, but there were other "relatives" in the room, and we picked on them, so they picked on us. Also, tattling to the "relative" about another table is a lot of fun, as well. Honestly, complaining that a server isn't as "into" it isn't really fair... there are many different personalities, and I sure hope that this poor guy didn't get in trouble!

We had cousin Amanda during our last trip. My DH really interacted with her....telling her she was adopted, etc. It was a howl! Amanda got some other CM's involved and it was hilarious. Finally, my DH wrote "AMANDA IS ADOPTED" on a napkin and hung it on our kitchen TV. She laughed hysterically when she saw it, and we all had a wonderful time!

PS...gotta agree with the previous poster about complaining when CM's aren't as involved as others. Some of these poor CM's are just college kids trying to make ends meet. They may not have the "up" personality that others have, or they may just be exhausted! Just my opinion ;)

We had Auntie Claire last Dec and she was a hoot!! We're hoping to be able to request her again this year!!

I would imagine you could ask; you may have to wait a little longer for the table.

We plan to ask for Auntie Claire when we check in.

I think it's fair to complain - not in a miserable or mean-spiritied sort of way, but in a way that lets the manager know that the expereince was disappointing. The whole family interactioin thing is the theme of the restaurant and it seems fair to me that the guests would expect some sort of playing along (that is how it's written up in guide books and all). If someone wants to wait tables but doesn't want to be in character, I would think everyone would be happier if they worked in a different restaurant in WDW that didn't require acting. Simple: If you don't like to act, you don't get a job that requires acting. And if you manage a restaurant that requires the wait staff to act, be sure that all the people hired can fill the role. Of course, reality is some will be better than others, but all should be putting in some effort (like the Jungle Cruise guides - you wouldn't expect someone who doesn't like to speak to groups or tell jokes to work at the Jungle Cruise...you'd expect them to work at a different attraction).

I don't know, I am all for cutting people some slack, but I feel that you don't ake a job if you can't do the job (when there are other options). Again, just my opinion....

Anyhow, I am looking forward to trying the Prime Time Cafe during our next visit and I sure hope we get someone who likes to act...not just a someone who is just waiting tables for the money. (Not that there's anything wrong with just waiting tables for the money - just somewhere else hopefully)
