My parents will be married for 50 years in September. I want to treat them to a vacation however my mother has early stage dementia so it has to be limited to around our house (since none of their children will be going with them to "chaperone"). We live in CT and it has to be in driving distance of about 5 to 6 hours. I started to look at belhurst castle in upstate Ny. They always seem to go to Longwood Gardens (I think this is in PA or VA). I want a nice memorable place to send them. I was just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions besides belhurst castle.

How about Mystic or Newport?

Hi ,so nice that you would like to send your parents on a trip. I have cared for parents with demetia it can be tough. Sometimes when the person is taken away from there familia home they spiral. It may be to hard for your Dad to manage, especially if its a surprize. What about getting your siblings to all take them out for Dinner to celebrate such a big anniversary. I am sure your Dad would appreciate seeing you all and having some help to celebrate the day.Your Mom would probally love having her family together . Just a thought good luck whichever you choose. Nan

This might be nice -- I know that routine is really important.

That said, my mom loves Country Curtains, so we gave my parents an overnight stay at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, MA -- they had a really great time. Newport RI is lovely, too.

It's nice that you are thinking about them like this. How about Thousand Island, NY? It might be a bit farther than you wanted to go but it's such a nice place.

My parents just celebrated their 50th in Dec. We did family pictures with all of us for them. I also had their wedding picture made into a puzzle and had a flag flown over the US Capital on their anniversary (the flag was then mailed to them for keeping).
