$50 for National's Emerald Club?

I just found a very good National rate and reserved it. When I looked at their website for joining the Emerald Club, it costs $50. Yikes, that would wipe out my savings on their rate.

I've seen people say that they have joined for free. Is that still an option for me?

Posting information about mousesavers.com is not a problem, the only thing that the posting guidelines do not allow is posting direct links to the site.
