We have been DVC members for years and typically use our points within the use year - have only banked once and borrowed maybe once. I am confused by the 50% borrowing - and it may not even apply to what I'm trying to do - so if someone could set me straight - I'd really appreciate it. Our use year is October. We are hoping to book a stay for late October using all of our points from this year (2020 use year points) and most of our points for 2021 use year. Will I be borrowing the points from next year when I book the trip (this week) or will I rather be moving points from this year forward to use in next year because that's when the trip is? I am always confused if the borrowing applies to when you book the reservation or when you take the trip.
Thanks for your help setting my mouse ears straight!
Stay well!

The use year is based on when the trip happens, not when you book. So it sounds like you’ll need to bank your 2020 UY points and then use those and your 2021 UY points (since the trip will occur in your Oct 2021 UY). Luckily, that means no borrowing restrictions!

Easiest way for me to know what I need is to forget the calendar year and when I will call, and just think of UY the trip will happen.

Once I know that, I know I can book it with banked points from the UY prior to our trip, points from the UY of the trip, and borrow...currently up to 50%..from the UY after the trip.

Since an Oct 2021 trip falls in your 2021 UY, it can be booked with banked 2020, 2021, and borrowed 2022 points..up to that 50%..to complete the reservation.

So, go ahead and bank your 2020 now so you don’t have to do it the morning you are booking. October is pretty full already so you don’t want anything to slow you down!
