I had read that disney would be coming out with a $50 and $20 disney dollar that could be purchased in the parks. Did this ever happen? Susan

I also heard about the $50 disney dollar. Before the disney visitor center in Ocala Florida closed I spoke to a CM about it. She informed me that they were made,(for the 50th anniversary)however they were sold out and should be getting more soon. The visitor center closed recently and I have not been able to find any other information on it.

Has anyone else heard anything??

I remember hearing or maybe someone on this board saying that in general disney is worried about counterfeiting if they go above $10s, because the bills aren't as high tech as typical legal currencies.

I think disney would love to do higher bills if they can avoid that problem. I think in disney's annual statements or something, one can determine the amounts of revenue attributed to unused disney dollars and admission tickets and the dollar number is apparently staggeringly high. So in a roundabout way, people buying but not using disney dollars or buying and not using admission tickets keeps the prices down for the rest of us.

Actually, the 50s were very much available in May. We went to the AK guest services in front and they had to break open their new pack of 50s. My dopey husband actually bought one 50 Disney dollar and 50 disney dollars in other denominations. Of course, he refuses to use them and just wants to "collect" them. Boy, if I ever find his stash of Disney dollars, my little girl is getting another new Princess dress!

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping to purchase some for Dgrandson for our trip on April. Susan

As much as I love Disney Dollars, I found I really really liked the DisneyWorld giftcards more.

I could use it just like DDs, but I didn't have to bother with getting change. Swipe, you're done. Just like room charging, but it's immediate, no having to go back and check your statements later on like room charging.

We ended up converting our DDs to a Giftcard, and using the gift card instead. It was nice not to have to carry around bundles of cash and the gift cards are reloadable so it was easy to keep track of spending too.

is there a reason you liked this better than just using the room charge privledge? Thanks..do you get them at disney stores? that would be a good way to start saving for "incidentals"

I was just wondering where I can get these other then at the parks. I was hoping to get some before we leave..

thanks

I've seen the gift cards everywhere - the Disney store at MCO, every resort gift shop/restaurant has them near their registers, DTD stores have them too. I'm not sure about the Disney Stores at the malls - I think you can but again I'm not sure. They're the size of a credit card and it's blue with Mickey on it.

The reason I like it better than room charging is that it's immediate. Say I put $100 on it, I can immediately see how much I have left on the card, rather than having to go back and check the statements later on. I don't like using credit cards all that much and this was a great way to not use credit cards but not carry cash and coins all over the place.

The only minor problem I had was that some of the CMs didn't know how to process it as it was still new and they weren't trained on it. If you see one of these CMs, just point out that there's a button marked gift card on the left side of their register. They just need to hit that button.

We used the gift cards to buy merchandise, to pay for meals, popcorns, drinks, you name it. It was great.

yup. I just took the disney dollars to a register and they loaded up the gift card. Real easy. You could even do a mix and load the card up with disney dollars and regular cash since Disney Dollars are considered regular cash anyway.

Heck, one time we even put the tip on the gift card after dinner.

Those gift cards can only be purchased at WDW. The gift cards at the Disney Stores (in your local mall) are for use at the Disney Stores only.

With the gift cards, can you put say like 20$ or whatever on them while in WDW and once home keep adding money on with your CC?? this could be a good way to save for a trip!!

Is there a minimum you can put on it? A maximum?
Thanks!

That's an interesting thought. I don't know the answer to that one.

The gift cards sound like a good idea but can they be used everywhere. Can I use the card at the spa or DTD. I know they can be used at TS meals but what about CS. Anywhere to read all about the card. Any fee's. Susan

The question I have about the WDW gift cards is do you have to sign anything at purchase??

I usually buy $50 worth of DD on my CC for my food & wine festival laps around World Showcase. It's easier than pulling out my room charge each time, but if you don't have to sign anything on the gift cards, this might be an easier way.

Has anyone tried the new gift cards at F&W festival yet??

Thanks,

Carol

there are no fees to buy, reload, or use the card. We used it to pay for room charges, merchandises, counter services as well as table services. We also used it at the food carts that sell ice cream and popcorn.

I couldn't use it at Boardwalk To Go because it didn't take cards. I used it at DTD at Goofy's Candy Shop, Once Upon a Toy, and World of Disney. I didn't try at the non-Disney stores, but I did use it at the Disney outlet store - Character Premier - at Orlando Premium Outlets.

I was able to put tips on the card, I used it at F&W booths, I was able to purchase alcoholic drinks on it too.

I was able to reload it with Disney Dollars, regular cash, or traveler's check. I used it at the Contemporary Resort arcade to purchase tokens, and at the resort gift shops to purchase food and sundries.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll contact Disney Merchandising and see about getting one ahead of time, then I can use the card for my trip in December  . Susan
