Is it possible to find a resort that will allow 5 people in one room and not have it be a deluxe room? We will have 2 adults and 3 kids (15,10,4) going. We would prefer to stay in a deluxe or moderate resort. I was wondering if you could get a room with a sofa bed or a day bed brought in. Just started looking and I have no clue what is available. Any info would be helpful.
TIA

Most of the deluxe rooms sleep 5, they have 2 beds and a day bed. Only one moderate will accomadate 5, some of the rooms at Port Orleans have a trundle bed that pulls out from under one of the beds. We did this once when our oldest 3 were very young. I think you would be better off getting 2 rooms at a value and having 2 bathrooms, 2 t.v.s, and a lot more space. No, Disney will not bring in cots or roll aways for you. We now have 4 kids and joined DVC to get the 2 bedroom units which are fantastic! Good luck planning your trip :D

You can stay in a moderate -- Port Orleans Riverside. Rooms have two double beds and a trundle that is five feet long. You will be charged an extra $15 for the fifth person, but that's a lot less than a deluxe or two rooms. Disney doesn't bring in rollaways or daybeds for fifth people.

We've stayed there twice with five people and found it perfectly acceptable when our kids were younger and smaller. The resort is very nice with a good main pool, and five smaller ones. A couple perks for this resort is that there is a boat to Downtown Disney and you can use the pool at Port Orleans French Quarter.

Also price the Swan and Dolphin. They allow five people and sometimes have really good discounts (look on the home page of the DIS). They are not Disney resorts but are considered on-site for early entry, etc., and have a fantastic location walking distance from Epcot and MGM.

We are a family of 6 and have ressies at the FW cabins. This will be our first time there, so I can't comment on it yet. However, I've read great reviews on it at the camping board here.

It has a bedroom with bunkbeds and a full sized bed (your 3 kids can sleep in there), and a pull down Murphy bed in the main room (you and dh can sleep on that). It also has a full-sized kitchen and a grill out on the porch. Just eating breakfast in the cabin will save us $100's on our trip! :)

We're leaving for our trip soon, and I'll post about the cabin when I get back.

I would go for 2 rooms at the value (love Pop Century) - you get 2 bathrooms - your other choices only allow one bathroom.

PLease note, this is just me, but I did not find PO acceptable for 5 people. ANd that's when my kids were younger (9,7 4) I know alot of people feel differently, but I think you would be very cramped with a 15 and 10 year old.

Having three kids, I know lodging is an issue, as it is with me, but that's JMHO.

Keep in mind that we used to stay at the Poly (and other resorts) in one room for our family of 6 (no flaming--our youngest was 1yo). I just stayed at POR earlier this month with 3 adults and one child in the room (me, my 4yo, my grown sister and our 81yo mother). The room was fine for all of us. Not much extra room, but it worked out fine, even with three women sharing one bathroom. It was at the beginning of our vacation so we weren't sick of each other yet.

I would think it would work even better for one "family unit", even a family of 5, since they would be used to living with each other.

GF, Poly, Contemporary, Y&BC and BWI have regular rooms that accomodate 5. Last trip our kids were 7, 5, and 4 and we were all comfortable. There were two queen size beds and a daybed.

Contemporary has the largest rooms--2 queens and a day bed. The rooms at the Poly are also larger than some of the other deluxes, and I think they have a daybed.

FYI, If you qualify to stay in Shades of Green (active duty military, reservists, DOD, retired military), their rooms sleep 5 comfortably. Two queen beds and a pull out (twin, I think) loveseat. When we stayed there in '98 my two boys were 12 and 14 and refused to share a bed so one slept on the bed and one on the pull out. There was still plenty of room to move around.

we are a family of 5. we stayed in POR when the kids were younger- 2 queen beds and a trundle bed. We've been staying in the CR now that the kids are older. The rooms are big, the bathroom set up is great, and the daybed is bigger than the trundle. We've found it to be perfect for a family of 5.

The moderates only have double beds except in the rooms with a single king sized bed. All the deluxes have queen sized bed.

CSR does offer rollaway beds for about $12/nite. The extra bed makes the room quite crowed. The rollaway is better if you have older chidren. The trundle beds at POR are sort-of small.

Swan and Dolphin will also provide rollaways for a small fee. With the specials that often run, these hotels are often the most affordable deluxe options.

..like one of your best bets. The rooms are larger and can accomodate 5 people....

CSR only allows 4 people in the room so the rollaway would only benefit a family of 4 or less. I would strongly suggest two rooms at a mod or value. That extra bathroom and tv come in handy with children. The Fort Wilderness Cabins are also a good option for a family of 5.
