We had the tour of Saratoga DVC property when were in WDW in Sept. The lady who gave us the tour said that even though most of the 1 bedrooms say 4 people, that if we were part of DVC they would let us stay in a 1 bedroom. Is this statement accurate?

I have been researching the DVC and hope to buy in 2009 and I am still trying to figure out how many points we will need and if I should do with a resale. But I also want to make sure we can stay in a one bedroom and not a 2 bedroom. Because if that is case I think I will look into other time share options.

Just wondering what other families of 5 have done in the past. BTW my kids are 9, 7 & 4 so they can very well fit on the pull out couch and pull out chair with no issues.

TIA

They don't advertise it but if you book a 1BR at SSR for 5 people, they let you. They will tell you though that they only provide sleeping arrangements for 4 people.

Only the AKV (non-value villa) and BLT one bedroom villas actually sleep five plus one under the age of three. All the other one bedroom villas only sleep four (one king sized bed and one queen sized sleeper sofa in the living room). DVC will not provide cots, rollaways or additional bedding.

Only AKL and BLT have the pull out twin sleeper chair.

Occupancy is a very hot topic on the DVC boards and these threads tend to get closed quickly. There is an existing thread where you can ask questions about occupancy.

Of the resorts already open, all but AKV officially sleep 4 in a 1BR (plus you can have 1 child under 3 in a crib). However, in the past Disney has unofficially allowed 5 but provides no additional bedding, cots, etc. for a fifth (and there is no "pull-out chair" for a fifth). The only problem you could face relying on that is that Disney, if it wanted to, could decide to enforce the 4 only rule anytime it might feel like doing so because the official disclosure documents say there are only supposed to be 4, i.e., you would have no recourse if Disney suddenly decided to enforce the 4 rule, although that is unlikely to occur.

AKV 1BRs (except for the small number of "value" point cost rooms which sleep 4) officially sleep 5 because they have a sleeper chair that has been added to the living room. BLT will be the same.

Technically they sleep 4 but they will currently allow 5 without bedding. The problem you get buying in is they could later enforce the rules more strictly and you'd be out of luck with no leg to stand on. "The salesman said" will not carry any weight in such an arguement with DVC as support of one trying to put 5 in a 1 BR.

We have been members since 03. We are a family of 5 and always do a one bedroom. My kids are 11-8-6. We manage just fine. Hoping they do not enforce the policy of 4 anytime soon. If so... we will be traveling with 4:rolleyes1
