Constantly going back and forth trying to decide whether to book five nights or six. First trip, fam of 4 with a 3.5 and 5 year old. Was originally planning 6 nights, basically thinking 5 park days (3 MK, 2 to split between AK, HS, and Epcot) because we have a full day drive on arrival and departure day.

But we changed the resort we want and the extra cost means I should probably drop a night off the trip to stay near the original planned budget. However, it's such an expensive trip to begin with, part of me feels like the difference is minor in the big picture and we should just make it happen for the original 6 nights instead of 5 regardless of the extra cost. We can pretty easily pinch other places and increase the budget, it's deciding if that's what we need to do. What do you think, is 4 park days enough for a first trip or should we push to get the 5 park days?

I would do 6 nights, if you can afford it. This way you don't have to rush. Also if your going when it's hot, you can take a break with the little kids, and go swimming. When we first started going, we would go 7-9 nights. Now after 12 years of going every year, we go 5-6 nights. We do 2 days in MK, 1 day in each AK,Ep,and HS. We swim in the afternoon. We actually try to relax, lol! Just take your time so you can enjoy yourself. And maybe if you get in early on arrival, you can go over to Disney Spring for dinner, to check it out.

If you can swing it financially I highly recommend 6 nights over 5 - but of course any number of nights at Disney World is better than no nights! That extra night will give you the chance to revisit a favorite park or parks - or to add something. For a first visit you will feel less rushed. Either way - you will have an amazing time. Just set the expectation that you will not see/do everything. It can take a 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th trip to feel like you've reached that point - if ever! Enjoy!

6nts is really what I would recommend. We now try to go for 10 days, because you're right, it's such a big expense, really an extra night doesn't make that big of a financial difference. The ticket price increase is very minimal.

We are taking our 5 and 3 year olds next fall. For us, the airfare is pricey so we do not plan to return for at least 3 years after this trip. We are staying for 7 nights and have 6 day tickets. We are planning MK 3 days, one day each at AKL, HS, and Epcot, and a resort day break mid week.

As someone has already said, Disney is expensive but once you are at 4 park days the price increase is not that much more for extra days. We did 6 park days and I don't think I'd ever want to do less than 5, personally. This differs by person but especially for your first trip, and especially with little ones, park hopping is just something I would not want to do. I'd do 2 MK days and 1 at each of the other parks. That way you get to experience all of it, no rush, and really take it in.

2 days for the other 3 parks is going to be hectic especially for first time visitors.
You might economize on some of the meals.
Another idea- eliminate the park hopper and use what you save on that for the 6th day. Do 2 or 3 days at MK, 1 or 2 days at EP, and full days at the AK and DHS. What you save on the park hopping may pay for a lot of that extra day?

Thanks for the input y'all! I had a feeling that would be the response but I feel better adding the additional cost knowing it's not just my own (possibly made up) opinion!
