We are a family of 5 going to Disney next summer. It will be me, DH, DD20, DS 17, DS 14, We'd like to stay at either POR or CBR. My DD is barely 5' tall. Would she be ok on the pull out bed/sofa? We also thought of getting 2 rooms at a Value, but would rather save the money. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

She would fit, but barely. If she is not one to move around a lot as she sleeps she should be ok. I will say that there is not a ton of storage space in the rooms at either place, as they took some of it away to put the fold out in.

You will have to pay extra for DD20 to be in the room, FYI.

I would suggest that 2 rooms at a value would be much more comfortable for everyone, give you 2 bathrooms, 4 real beds and extra storage space. If you really want to do the one moderate, I would go with CBR. The rooms are a little larger at 340 sq ft (POR rooms are 314 sq ft)

If saving money is the most important, by all means go for the one room. It will be very crowded, but keep in mind any luggage not needed on a daily basis can be stored with bell services.

If it were me, I would do two value just for comfort. I'm bias toward Port Orleans, but Caribbean Beach is great as well if you go that route! (I would just pick the cheaper price.)

We will most likely be at the parks most of the day and use the rooms to sleep at night. Since we are driving, we could put suitcases in the car. And yes, I know we have to pay extra (thanks for the reminder) for my DD. Thanks for help.

Yikes. Five adults/nearly adults in one room? We just had the two of us in a CBR room last week and it was nice. Five would have been uncomfortable. We had a room without the murphy bed and had six small drawers for the two of us and we used them all. With the murphy bed, I'm not sure there are any drawers. How about a cabin or family suite? You don't have to pay for an extra adult in either of those categories.

Our oldest was 5'3" last trip and fit on the fold out at POR no problem. You do lose a lot of storage with the fold out bed - we compensate by bringing those hanging cubes you can find in the closet organization section at target. If you're all day at the parks people, it's totally doable! We rarely hang out in our room, so we don't mind being a little cramped.

Definitely check out off-site resorts, like Bonnet Creek. It is essentially on-site (immediately next to CBR), costs far less, and you get a 2-3 bedroom condo!

I get it. Go ahead and squish in one room. I know what you mean about saving money. My Mom is 5'1 and she slept on the Murphy/pullout bed. She said she was fine. If everyone knows what they're getting into and you're mainly in the room to sleep it can work, unless any of you are high maintenance. I would go with CBR just to have a bit of extra space.

I think either would be ok and would go for the location where you get the best price or like the theme the best. It'll be a little crowded, so what! Have a great vacation!

I agree with both posts :thumbsup2.

I would do five people if one was a child sleeping in the murphy bed. I definitely would not do it with your family's ages.

did CBR finally get the queen beds that the other moderates have?

if they still don't - then definitely go with POR

Yes.

My vote would also be two value rooms for the sake of space/sanity, or even looking into renting points to stay DVC. But if one mod room is the route you want to take, keep in mind that the murphy bed is roughly the size of a crib mattress. It's also suspended, so it's not so comfortable if someone's limbs were to hang off it, etc. I might also suggest bringing an air mattress or having one shipped to yourself at the resort. I'd find that more comfortable and it could be stood up against the wall during the day for more space. And as PP mentioned, keep in mind that since you'll have more than two adults (18+) in one room, you will be subject to the $25/night extra person fee. Make sure you factor that in when comparing costs against two value rooms or point rentals.

I'll throw my two cents in. I recently stayed at CBR and wasn't impressed at all. In comparison to POR - Riverside wins hands down in every category for me. Location is better, boat to DTD, rooms are nicer, the pool is way more suitable for families, and the list goes on and on. You can definitely fit 5 in a POR room, it won't be an issue. The extra charge is something like $15 a night - so a $75 total for your stay for the extra person.

Yep, $15 per night is correct. Not $25 as I originally stated in my previous post - that's deluxe resorts only. Still something to factor in when comparing costs.

I do agree that I prefer POR over CBR and don't think the added square footage will be too noticeable. Although I do think it's a tight fit for 3 adults and 2 teens.

nkereina is right - probably a tight fit. However, if you're anything like us and don't plan on being in the room too often except for sleep and cleaning up (Which are the only reasons you should be in there, you're at Disney!) then you'll be fine! Showering and getting ready could be hectic, but definitely stay on property. I would avoid the values, the adults will appreciate POR over them for sure!

Wow High Maintenance? Really? I don't think someone is high maintenance if they don't like to squash into one room with 4 other people.

I also think that unless it is absolutely necessary to pack into one room, 2 rooms would be much nicer. I don't like to go to Disney and "make it work" by having everyone cram into one room. Sharing one bathroom with 4 other people is a hassle when everyone is trying to get ready for the parks. Or shower after some pool time.

If money is a huge factor, there is the campground to consider. You can't get much cheaper than setting up a tent or two.:)

I spent a night on the murphy bed on our Jan trip to POR.

It is much longer than a crib mattress. And not suspended, it is cantilevered to be exact.

Who ever is going to sleep on it either needs to be "a GOOD sleeper" or (as someone else said) not be 'high maintenance'.

I am an above average sized woman and I fit just fine however the mattress felt too thin to me (or I was too heavy) and it was hard to sleep on. I am not a good sleeper but I am low maintenance and just rolled with it. I was in Disney after all. It pains me to say it, but if I had to sleep on it every night of the trip I would go with the 2 value rooms.

If you ask Disney they say those beds are meant for kids 9 years of age and younger. So I'm not surprised you didn't find it comfortable.

The beds are 30" x 63". The average crib mattress is 28 5/8" x 53". So the beds are only a fraction wider, and 10 inches longer. But 5'3" isn't that long. When you figure a twin bed is typically 75" long, that is an awful short space for an adult to try to use to sleep.
