5 in a value resort?

We are looking at going to WDW in June of 2006 but have one delimma. We are a family of 5 with the financing to stay at the value resort. When we went in October of 2003 we stayed at the campground with our pop up camper. Our camper does not have air conditioning so taking it in June is not much of an option.

Can you stay at a value resort with a family of 5 by bringing your own air mattress for the floor? Any help will be appreciated.

Depends on the ages of your group members. You can have a maximum of 4 guests in a value resort room. If you have a child under 3, he/she would not count toward your member count. Then you could do a value resort with one room. Otherwise you would need two rooms or move up to a moderate resort or deluxe resort.

Welcome to the DIS!

Have you ever stayed in a Value resort? The occupancy limit in the Value resorts is 4 and the rooms are very, very small at 260 square feet. Honestly, I do not think there would be enough room for an air mattress. Can you swing a moderate resort? Port Orleans Riverside has some rooms that sleep 5.

Sorry should have realized that ages are needed. We have a 15yDS, 12yDS and 10yDD. We have stayed at Allstar Music back in 1999. We went with my whole family and my 2nd Ds stayed with my brothers family. I was thinking that a camp pad could be rolled out at night to sleep on?

Then you are aware of how small the rooms really are. {shrug} I wouldn't want to share a single small room with 3 older kids. In addition, it is against Disney policy and fire codes to have 5 people in a Value resort room. Disney will not provide you with any addition bedding. I'm going to suggest PO-R again. Not only will you have double beds and a trudle bed for your DD, but your kids will enjoy the pool more with the pool slide.

Go for it as long as your a close family youll be fine but space will be very limited....I once stayed at Assp with 6 21 year old guys for a week so it can be done

We used to stay at the All Stars but now we are a family of five and cannot stay there either. It would be nice if WDW would realize that some larger families need the value resort option as well.

We have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, which seems to be the least expensive place that will accommodate five. It is a great resort, and I don't believe it was much more than the All Stars. It is worth it to check this out.

Have you thought about staying offsite? You can rent a condo for what you are paying at a Disney Value resort in the summertime. Alot of the resorts near Disney have themed pools too, if that is one of the things that you are looking for.

Disney will not let you book 5 in a room at a value, unless one child is under 3. And you don't want to be "omitting" one of the children from the room ressie because that child will not receive a room key. This will cause a problem if you are having your park tickets put on the room keys, and even if not, this will mean that one of your party would never be able to attend the Extra Magic Hours ... and during June, I'm thinking you'll want those extra park hours! They actually scan the room keys now for the wristbands, so you can't use the same key to get 2 wristbands. Space wise, yes there's room for an air bed, but it would be very, very crowded. I would try and get 2 connecting rooms at All Stars, as this will give you 2 bathrooms for the 5 of you.

Good Luck! And Welcome to the DIS ! :wave2:

Easy one to answer but I sure not the one you want to hear. As others have said, the maximum occupancy is 4 people.

Good luck. Just look into the alternatives others are suggesting.

Was not thinking about the extra magic hours. With the heat in June we would be using the early opening and late closing option everyday. Thank you all for answering my question. I guess we will try to budget for Port Orleans-Riverside. May have to back off the vacation for a year.

Thank you all again!!

when I was growing up we always slept 5 in a room... we didn't do Disney, but we never stayed anywhere "fancy" Mom & Sister would share a bed, and Dad would get the other and my brother and I would alternate who got the bed. The other one would sleep on the floor all wrapped up in the comforters from the 2 other beds.

We used to love it. we thought it was hilarious to get all wrapped up like burritos.

TeeGee, if you are worried about budgeting, check out AAA. You join and can get a discount off your room price. Check out the AAA website to see if this meets your needs. I believe it is $50 to join. Look at "Travel Planner" on the left sidebar then click on "find a hotel". Fill in the blanks to see if the prices are right!

Good Luck!

P.S. I got $70 off per night at WLodge thru AAA this past Oct.

Don't do it. We felt horribly cramped and we had a king sized bed so there was extra floor space. We were two adults and two very small children. It was only for one night. No way would I ever do it again, especially not for more than one night.

Have you considered the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. You have stayed at FW so you know how beautiful an area it is. The Cabins offer all of the comforts of home. There is a bedroom with bunk beds and a double bed, and a pull down bed in the living room. There is a kitchen fully stocked with dishes and utensils. You could easily save some money on breakfasts, a few lunches and eating in a few nights. You might find that this strategy would work for your budget, especially with some eating in.
Good Luck with your decision.

Listen people, I think I heard a thing about one of the values being change into a "suite" for bigger families, like a family of 5, is that going to be possible in the next summer???? :magnify:

But you won't get it for the price of one regular room at a value. I'd bet the price will be comparable to the POR trundle room or maybe even more.

If I'm not mistaken, POR will only take 5 in a room if one is 9 or under. If the child is 10 or older they won't let you do it.

The best way to go with kids that age it to get two connecting rooms at a value resort. Then you will have a total of 4 double beds, two TV's, and the best yet...two bathrooms!
