Just wondering if any of you knew of any tricks to help get over a cold/cough sooner. Does that Airborne stuff really work? Or Zycam? I never tried either of them, so just wondered. We all have these horrible sore throats, those deep "barking" coughs -- it is awful. I hope it turns around because we are leaving next Wednesday for DL!!!! :goodvibes

I don't know if Zycam or Airborne will work once the cold is in full force.

I hope you guys are all better by the time your trip starts.

My advice.....take it easy and drink LOTS of fluids.

Better before you go then once you get there.... rest, fluids, rest, fluids.

Oh bummer....I just wanted to let you know that the same cough 'thing' went through our house just last week, and we went to the doctor thinking it could turn into pneumonia. He said it was just a viral thing, and just to drink plenty of fluids and rest like other posters said. And now....it's gone (just a week later) :thumbsup2 Hope you're all feeling better soon!

The night before last I woke up with symptoms of a full blown cold, and just hours from flying to San Diegp. I got up and took 2 vitamin c's, 2 zinc's and did a couple shots of Zicam. Rested a little and just before we left for the airport I took a couple of Nyquil. Was feeling bad, but as the day went on felt better and better. Woke up this morning feeling fine. That regimen worked for me, YMMV.

It's not as effective once it's full blown, but I always take Emergen-C and Zicam when I'm coming down with something. It certainly won't make you worse and I bet all the vitamins and zinc will speed along the healing process. Take 2 Emergen-Cs a day and follow the Zicam instructions. I've been fighting a cold off for a few days and so far it's stayed small. Orange juice and chicken noodle soup with lots of rest/sleep will help you get rid of it faster. Good luck! We leave in 5 days too and I'm hoping to kick this cold out of here by then (and not pass it on to my kids!)

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, and it's kinda gross, but last year two days before our trip I got some sort of a chest infection and a cold but that was not going to stop me from going to Disneyland. I took some nyquil for the flight and that helped my symptoms but I still couldn't sleep because I was so excited. And then once we got there, the humidity helped my chest but I woke up early everymorning with that awful chest cough and it hurt, and I was afraid I was waking up the whole hotel. So dh had me lay on the bed on my stomach and he had me cough while he gently pounded my back to loosen up the phlem and then I spit it out. Within a day I felt better and my cough was gone. I hope you feel better soon though, it does suck being in disneyland when you have a cold.

This was me too, only I came down with a cold 2 days before we left for DL! Sadly nothing got rid of it but time. I was pretty miserable the day we drove down there and then that night I didn't get much sleep. But after that I did pretty well (since it was day 4 of my cold the first full day in the park). Unfortunately my son came down with it half way in to the trip, but I was prepared with cold meds for him. He did fine, although I wish he wouldn't have gotten it.

I bet you guys will do okay since you have 5 full days to get over it before you leave. You'll probably have some sniffles and the cough left over, but hopefully you won't feel that "tired out of it" feeling that you get at first! Rest up!

Thanks everyone for all of your tips!! I appreciate you
I officially have no voice left now. Lovely. On top of feeling miserable, I can't even speak. My kids are loving that I can't tell them what to do LOL. OK -- I am hoping to we get over this thing before too long!! :goodvibes

I have 7 days and I'm getting it too! :( I'm going to do the Emergen-C thing and hope it helps. I'm also going to rest a lot this weekend and hope I don't pass it to my kids!!

Better now than next week! We flew out on 10/5, with DS3 having come down with a cold the night before. He wound up getting sick all over himself at SeaTac Airport, then several times on the plane (thank goodness for airsick bags!) and while exiting the plane at Long Beach. :headache:

We were just hoping to get to the hotel quickly to deal with whatever this was, but by the time we got there, he was fine and as bouncy as ever! :confused3

He had passed it along to the rest of us, however, and I lost my voice in Disneyland. Makes it real hard to control the children! I resorted to the Mean Mama face ( ), loud finger-snapping to get their attention, and poking DH to "do something!" but DS7 would exclaim innocently, "But I didn't know what you meant by that, Mama!" :sad2:

I was sick on our trip last year too. Would be nice to go and be healthy the entire trip, I wonder what that's like? :upsidedow

We swear by this trick that another mom told me about a couple years ago.
Boil water and pour in that liquid VICKS that I think is for vaporizers. Boil it till the house smells visks-ish and it unclogs the noses like crazy. If you are game, once the nose is clean and clear, try nasal irrigation. Its weird, but really flushes out the bacteria before it has a chance to breed. The cough is usually just junk draining down. (PS: I use one pot for vicks only, and keep it out of the cabinet so nobody uses it for food. I wrote on the side VICKS ONLY! Doubt it's healthy to eat...)

Now... anyone with stomach flu fixes? We made it thru the nasal stuff last week, only to hit the full blown stomach stuff! And we leave next week, too.

We had to cancel our trip in May for stomach issues as well.
 Talk about household disapointment!!!!

Everyone: THINK WELL and HEALTHY!

I just remembered!!! I bought a Neti Pot this summer on sale...I'm going to use that and see if it helps. Hope it does!

for that cough try, i think it is delsym. . .. it tastes nasty, i will forwarn you, but it definitaly takes care of the nasty cough. . . i had a nasty chest cold a few weeks ago and tried the mucinex. . . didn't really seem to do a whole lot. just keep thinking positive, you are going to get better. who knows, it just may work!
