5 day vs 7 day

I am looking at doing a Halloween cruise next October. I am pricing the difference between a 5 day Magic vs a 7 day Fantasy for myself, dh, and dd (1) and dd (3). We have cruised the Fantasy on a 7 day and the Dream for a 4 day. I felt 4 days wasn't enough, but the difference in cost between 5 and 7 is $1,683. We loved the Fantasy, however I'd like to one day sail the Magic one day. For those who have done the 5 day is it enough? Are two extra nights worth $1,683?

We are also thinking of doing the October 9th 5-night sailing on the Magic.
We've only done the 3-night, 3 different times, so thought the next step
should be the 5-night. We also priced the 7-night and it was just a bit
more than we want to spend right now, so the 5-night was a great
alternative. We are hoping they will still be doing the Halloween on The
High Seas next year, we loved it last year! If anyone can tell me where
I might find the Navigators for this cruise, I would appreciate it!
Thanks!

I think that is a big increase for two additional days. Does one of them have an itinerary that is more appealing to you?

I'm firmly in the camp of "longer is better". However, having just been on the Fantasy, and not having been on the Magic since her re-imagine, I'd have to look at the itineraries before making my choice. That $1,683 comes out to an additional $210 per person a night. Only you can decide if the longer cruise is worth that.

So, does one itinerary appeal to you more than the other? That might give you the answer.

Having done both, I prefer the 7 night cruise. To me, it's just a perfect length (although I'm sure longer cruises would be great, as well).

With the 5 night, I never felt like we were relaxing, The first day or two was about figuring out what was offered, and the last few days was about packing and figuring out what we needed to do before we left, as there was no way we were going to fit it all in.

I admit the 5 day cruise was my family's first cruise, so I could see going on another 5 day cruise now that I know what to expect with Disney, but still prefer 7 days, if possible.

I would save that 1683 and put it towards a future cruise. I've done a 3 day and a 7 day and I'm going to do a 5 day in March for the same reason...saved a bunch of money. I have a hard time believing that 2 days is worth 1683 but that's just me.

We are also in the "longer cruise is better camp" BUT a 5 night is a really nice length. $1683 is too much of a difference to me for two more nights. I'd go with the Magic. We found that we've enjoyed our 5 night cruises significantly more than our 4 night ones, they had a very different (in a good way) vibe.

We are doing a back to back on the Dream (3 days and then 4 days). We saved a few thousand when compared to 7 days on the Fantasy and we don't visit the Ports, the ship is our holiday destination so it doesn't matter to us where it stops.

Some people choose to do this but we would still pick the 5 night because:

1) The Dream is our least favorite Disney ship
2) I would not want to repeat entertainment
3) I would not want to repeat menus
4) In our experience the Magic feels less crowded
5) No turnaround day to contend with
6) The shorter cruises always feel like they have a "rushed" energy
7) It would be a new ship for you
8) The Magic updates and tweaks are neat to experience

Food for thought, OP.

The extra 2 nights also means 2 extra stops, right?

Is there something you would like to do and see at those stops?

If you plan on just staying on the boat then the difference is a lot, but you are also getting 2 days more of entertainment, 5 meals a day, and a roof over your head.

While not cheap, it does add up.

Thank you for your opinions. I guess only we can decide if it is worth the extra expense for two more nights. I think putting that money towards another vacation might be the better plan for us. It will be our first trip with two kids, so the shorter trip might be a better. I'd like to see the magic having been on the fantasy and the dream. The fantasy itinerary is really nice though :)

$1,683 extra for two more nights? Oh hell no!! I dont care where its going or if its just a sea day, there's no way on gods green earth would I pay that kind of money for two extra nights!

I agree that you'd be better off putting that money towards another cruise!

I know the feeling, we were debating the same thing for Nov 2015. We are sticking with the 5 day because I just can't justify the price difference.

Plus we were on the magic before the Refurb and wanted to see the difference.

We were able to get a verandah room on the 5 night and on the fantasy it was $1500 more for an inside room... forget it.
