We're going on our first Disney cruise (cruised with other lines before though) this August...4 night Bahamian out of Port Canaveral. I'm already looking at our second cruise bc I'm positive we're going to love it...im thinking of booking the 5 night Baja out of San Diego on May 7th. My question is I've read here and there that prices increase on some cruises and that the lowest price is right when they're released or close to. Is this true? Is that the case with every cruise?

Also has anyone done this cruise and if so what did you think?

Prices do not always increase significantly, but they often do. The San Diego cruises likely will be popular because there are so few of them and lots of people who want to sail from the west coast.

We have done a 7-day and a 5-day Baja cruise and both were wonderful! I only wish they'd kept doing the 7-day cruises!

I'd book it soon if I was you. We didn't book one immediately for last October sailings and really regretted it. We sat on it considering it for about a month and when we went to book it prices were through the roof. I'm so hoping they offer them again in October 2017, I won't make the same mistake twice.

We booked our 5 day Baja October 2015 cruise on opening day. It was so evident that cruises need to be on the West Coast because within 4 days our cruise for 4 jumped 22%, within 17 days 33%, & less than 2 months 66%! I've been watching the May 7th cruise (also booked opening day) & as of last night still same price. I'd still book as soon as you can because I'm sure the prices will rise.

@pepe3penelope do they typically run this cruise in May and October? Tried to look up when it's run in the past and didn't have any luck...if they offer it in October I may wait to book it thenAre the October dates less or more than the May dates I wonder?

There was only last year to compare with, since the Wonder is going into drydock this fall and that messes with her schedule. It is hopeful that they will run Baja cruises in the fall of 2017, and the signs do point to it, but I'd book the May cruise to lock in the price and then switch to the fall if something comes out that works for you.

Yes, I agree. Book it now to lock in the price. We did the 5-night (with pepe3penelope) last year and I was shocked at how quickly the prices went up on that one. Granted, they started out really low, which was part of the reason I jumped on that one so quickly. So they learned their lesson and this year it is priced a little higher to start.
But it still was a great cruise for those of us on the West Coast :)

We've done both the 7 night Baja back in 2011 and the 5 night last October. We booked opening day when the Baja cruises were announced just as a placeholder since I wasn't sure we could even go, but definitely wanted to do another Baja cruise,. The price of our verandah stateroom doubled in the first three weeks after the booking opened, and tripled by the time we sailed. There is no way we could justify that cost for a 5 night cruise (about $1200/day for two people) and we were so happy we'd booked the placeholder. It was a great cruise and a fun change from our Eastern or Western Caribbean cruises. We took advantage of it being only 5 nights to enjoy San Diego one night before and two nights after the cruise. We packed a lot into those days!

I agree with what everyone has stated. Scott from Disney Cruise Line blog posted within the last month to month and a half that Mazatlan posted on their site for October 2017 that DCL was coming. I love the idea of the 7 night cruise because the 5 night cruise went by soooo quickly!

If you are able to, book May 2017 to lock in your rates. When they release the October 2017 dates, you can also book and make a decision.

I wish I could have but my DD will be finishing her first year of college that week and we will have to help her move out of the dorm.

I moved my August 2016 cruise to the May 2017 3-night Baja, just to save the OBB benefits. I don't know if we will be able to cruise later in May or not (also hoping for something in October also).
We moved our other OBB to the August 2, 2017 5-night cruise to Alaska :) Our friends (one of the other families from our October cruise group) are doing the Alaska cruise too.

Hope to do Alaska one day cuz that's Eric's dream! So far we love not having to fly anywhere...gives me onboard shopping spending money!!! :rotfl2::rotfl::hyper:

As far as the best price on opening day sometimes yes and sometimes no. With DCL it's either book early or book late. There is no in between. It's true the prices on those went up a lot last year, but they did end up offering all kinds of discounts to fill the remaining rooms. I was kind of shocked when the discounts came out considering how high the prices rose. We are about 3 hour drive from San Diego. I would have booked last minute had we not already booked the Hawaii cruise. DCL has there own unique way of selling cruises... copied by no other cruise line. My advice would be to go ahead and book.

Just to add last year they did that cruise in Oct which is Fall break for many schools in Cali, AZ, Nevada. May might not sell as fast so that is something to consider.

Thank you all so much for the great advice!! @Ofinn @pepe3penelope @skylynx @jetskigrl @Club Disney Chandler @GooniesAndy I booked us early this morning! Thanks for the advice to lock in the price before it increased...I had no idea they increased the prices like that!
Welcome to the DCL lovers club! :sail::sail::sail::welcome:

When we went on our 1st cruise, it was DCL and we never knew how addicting cruising on DCL would be!!! I love that you haven't stepped onboard your 1st one & you have already booked the 2nd!!! Love it!!! :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc
