What do you think are the 5 biggest misconceptions about WDW?
I'll start.......

1) That it's just for kids! LOL!
2) That it's too expensive!
3) It's a relaxing vacation! Are you kidding me?
4) That it can be compared to other theme parks. NO WAY!!
5) That you can make it through a day in uncomfortable shoes, and still be able to get up and go commando style again the next day. (Got that t-shirt)

The one biggest misconception that I find people still have is, you have to pay to use FastPass.

I do believe it can be a relaxing vacation, but that also depends on the people going. If you go once a year, and you have a family, then I can understand the stress. But I live about an hour and a half away, and I have an annual pass, so I can go whenever so I don't stess if I don't go on a ride.

But I definitely agree with the other misconceptions. I became a bigger Disney fan the older I got.

I have to agree with jswalker, it can be a relaxing vacation, but that depends on the people in your group. It has always been a relaxing vacation for us except on our trip this past June. We were there with part of my family and it always seemed like we were rushing to get everything done and didn't take time to relax.

1. That it's an amusement park.
2. That it's ALWAYS hot and crowded.
3. That long lines are completely unavoidable and are at EVERY attraction.
4. That Animal Kingdom is a zoo.
5. That it's just for kids.

Probably not all the BIGGEST misconceptions, but the first ones I thought of.

1. The size of the various Parks-(I still have a hard time picturing that 2 MK's fit inside AK).
2. That walking all day means you will still fit in your size 9 shoe- for the life of me I don't know why I bring other shoes since the don't fit on day 2.
3. No Adr...no problem...sorry- big problem(IMO).
4. I thought it was expensive to eat at WDW-sorry if you live near a major US city or travel frequently or eat out a lot, then many times WDW is right on par if not cheaper.
5. I went to WDW one time and have done it all---I have done it 9+ times, and still haven't done it all.

The first things that people who have never been there say when they hear that I am going AGAIN....

1. I just can't do those crowds and lines (I always go in early Dec or Jan!!)

2. If you've been there once, why would you wanna go back? (Since I have been there 6 times and STILL haven't done it all...and darn Disney keeps adding stuff!!)

3. We just don't like rides, so what's the point?

To me the biggest misconception is that if you're an adult male who loves all things Disney, people either think you're a 1. dork, 2. immature or 3. a sexual predator or child molester...

Sometimes when I tell people I'm a big Disney fan, they give me that look like "Are you serious? Disney? For kids?"

They are so wrong... I mean after all, I'm the coolest person I know. :rotfl:

Well I have one...
....telling yourself that you can eat whatever you want because "you'll burn it off walking 10 miles a day"
(well I gained 7 lbs last Disney Trip, even with all that walking!!!)

My aunts commet to my cousin sums it up for me-

" You pay all that, go ride a couple rides, eat some overpriced Churros and then what?"

Talk about having no clue!!!! I've been 8 times, and have yet to eat that Churro- maybe this visit! :rotfl2:

Funny, I have thought about this before.

1. Disney is for Kids.
2. All grown ups (esp men) who go to Disney without kids are homosexual.
3. That Magic Kingdom IS Disney World and the others 3 parks are extras, like Universal.
4. You have to pay extra for FastPass.
5. ADRs are for planning nuts only. (OCD planners)

Sorry, but it is. I love Disney, but the costs are outrageous. We make what is considered a solid, good, middle class income and we have to sacrifice and save for at least two years to afford a trip to Disney. Regular folks just don't have that kind of money at their disposal. It's too bad, because everyone should get the chance to experience the special magic that is Disney. I had to wait until I was 31 to do it. Now I'm in love with the place and can't afford to go back!

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I always eat what I want and lose at least 5 lbs each trip.
I don't think it is a misconception, but more of a metabolism/genetic thing.

Hey now, lets be realistic, it IS too expensive but we're just all willing to pay it :cool1:

I gotta agree with you there - if we didn't live within driving distance (we're about 12 hours away), we probably wouldn't be going! And it's likely that it'll be another five years before we go back again. We're not "go once or twice a year" people.

Funny- we do drive, it's about 26 hours, but what we spend on our Disney trip is comprable to what we spend on other family vacations. We don't find it out of reach expensive. And for reference, we are an average middle class family of 5. :goodvibes

The biggest misconception I have observed is some people don't know that Disney World is more than one park. For example, when a coworker found out we were going for nine days her response was "What are you going to do down there for nine days?" She didn't know that Disney is more than MK. Seriously. I've encountered several people who did not know this.

I don't think it is a misconception, but more of a metabolism/genetic thing.

Also, how much ground you cover. If you're a Disney Freak and you don't miss a thing 'cause you walk real fast - you're definetly going to burn more calories than if you just kind of take it easy and walk slowly all around...

Also, I've noticed that different peoples' perceptions on what they *want* to eat is very different from person to person. In other words - I myself cannot ever imagine eating desert more than one time a day... I just don't *want* to. For whatever reason I have this conscious that tells me to eat something wholesome. Other people it seems that junk is all they want to eat at Disney World.

So when you say you eat what you want - it might be either a whole lot healthier or a whole lot less calories than what someone else wants to eat.

Hopefully that makes sense, just my theory... of course you're also right in saying genetics and metabolism play a part... so many factors.

Personally, I don't gain or lose weight while at Disney World.

Yup! My friends were going with their school (they had never been) and I told them about FP and how it was FREE! Think they listened? No... LoL. :)
