We are headed to Disney World for the 4th of July holiday. This will be our first time over the 4th. We are planning on doing the fireworks at MK on the 3rd and Epcot on the 4th. My question is where is a good viewpoint for watching the fireworks at MK? Do they do projections on the castle? If not then we don’t need to be right in front of the castle right? Thanks so much.

There aren’t material projections... just some accent lighting changes, stars, etc.

The MK show is a “360 degree” show, meaning if you are standing in the Hub you’re going to see fireworks being shot off all around you - traditional launch points and perimeter launch points.

I’m always a bit biased to watching any show with the castle as the centerpiece - to me that’s how they were mostly meant to be enjoyed and it’s the full package. BUT, there are plenty of other quality spots as well. My general recommendation is to be somewhere where you have a decent view of the surrounding skies. The “360 degree” elements are the best part of the 7/3 & 7/4 shows and you want to be somewhere with a decent view around you... meaning no major buildings or trees directly in your way.

Good luck!

Agree with GADisneyDad14 above. The "best" spots will be in the hub, just make sure if you can that you don't get a spot near the trees because they can block a bit of your view if you're almost right under them.

However, if you're planning on seeing July 3rd fireworks in MK, I'd suggest being in the hub a minimum of 90 minutes early, if not 120. It's a madhouse that night. Epcot is FAR easier on the 4th. Showing up at 8:30pm for a 9pm show is more than enough.

I have a dessert party on the 3rd, with the viewing being the terrace. It was the only one available, but completely forgot it was a 360 show, guessing I'm going to be missing out on quite a bit

Nahh, you still have a reasonable view of the surrounding sky. Not all of it, but some. The benefits of the reserved area have to be balanced with the quality of the view, in my opinion.

Ill be there on the 4th as well with no dessert party ressie (although, I am not giving up home and trying about 5 times a day). I think our plan is to show up about 7:30 or so. I figured, if I am willing to be there at 8, I might as well add 30 minutes more to be safe and just make sure we've got our UNO cards with us that day. The fireworks is the main thing bringing us to MK that day so we will make it our number 1 priority.

My personal opinion is to go a bit further back from the hub and more into Main Street. We posted up on a corner-which was slightly annoying at first due to the crosswalk and people constantly walking in front of us-but once the show starts CM's block the cross walk from traffic. The view is still great as you are still straight on from the castle, you are a bit closer to the entrance so the crowds aren't as bad when leaving. I find that the taped off areas that are closer to the hub obviously get scooped up really really early. depending on your party size and if you are okay with it (based on ages), a few of you can always man down the spot if you get there SUPER early and allow the others in the party to mosey around and vice versa. when my family did that 2 out of the 3 children went to Space Mountain to jump on it while the other family members posted up, one got food, bathroom runs, etc.

We went very close to christmas for mom's birthday two years ago and she refused to keep walking around the park when she saw people sitting in fireworks spots already, she made us sit in a GREAT location but for hours before the show. It didn't really bother us because like i said we were able to split up accordingly and ride some attractions with ample time to spare.

not for everyone but works great for us every time!
