46 inches for some rides at MK?

Hi,
My dad, sister and her daughter went with my 6 year old son to DW recently. They visited the Magical Kingdom. my son was complaining he was not allowed on some rides. My dad said some were for 46inches or taller. I am confused. I thought it was 40, 44 and 52? I just checked out some height restrictions and the speedway said to be 52 or taller to be able to drive. I know he went on that ride because he complained he could not drive. However I couldn't find any rides that said 46 or higher. I know he could go on the 44 or higher ones. So I was wondering if my dad and sister just decided they didn't want to go on certain rides or his cousin didn't want to and instead of explaining that to him they made up this weird 46 thing because I did tell him he was tall enough to go on 44 rides.

Hey thanks for that calculator thingie. It is very helpful. And the only restrictions I did see were some for 48 inches maybe that is what they meant. Why don't you just ask your son what rides he is talking about?

Why don't you just ask your Dad or your Sister which rides had 46" restrictions? I would think that would be the clearest way to get the information you need.

For some reason ... I think I remember Space Mt being 46 ... not sure, though 'cause my DD is 48 or so ...

Must be some misunderstanding as there are actually no rides with a 46" restriction in all of WDW nevermind MK. At MK you have the mountains, Splash Mt and Big Thunder Mt are 40" and Space Mt is 44". The Stitch attraction is 40 and the Barnstormer is only 36". As for the Speedway, anyone over one year can ride along and you only have to be 52" to drive alone! Your son would have been allowed to drive as long as he was accompained in the car by an adult. My dd drove with me in the car at just over 40".

At MGM you have a 48" restriction for Rock & Rollercoaster and at AK you have a 48" restriction for Primeval whirl while expedition Everest is 44".

FWIW if he is very close to 44" they measure up a bit to allow for shoes. Is it possible he was boarderline 44" and maybe didn't meet the 44" when measured?

Could have been a misunderstanding at the parks by your son, by the adults or there were other reasons they didn't want to ride and used the height restriction as an excuse.

My amazing wife has planned a WDW extravaganza (sp) for the first week of May at POP with a multitude of planned meals for my DD7 & DS3, parents in-law and the two of us...

I'm curious how strictly the parks height requirements are enforced. My son is 37", but with some roller skate shoes (skates removed) he's 39" inches tall. 40" inches seems to be the magic number for a majority of rides should I continue to hang him by his feet? (just kidding) I'm not talking about RR or Space Mountain type rides, I wanted him to ride with me on Soarin' and the test car, train, and water log ride (yes I'm not all familiar with the real names, sorry)... anyway your experiences wuold be appreciated.

Wow those are some high shoes I can't imagine having a little person walk around all day in 2 inch heels. You are talking about 3 inches by May I don't think you will make it. I wouldn't promise anything.

They are very strict and I think they would question 2 inch shoes let alone 3 inch. They even go so far as to scrunch down hair if they think it has been fluffed up to make the child taller. Last time my son was 40 inches at the Dr's barefoot and at Disney he barely made it with shoes according to their sticks and he was measured at least twice for every ride.

:rolleyes1 My DS6 measured 43 1/4 inches at the doctor's office last week(barefooted), & I'm really hoping for another 3/4 inch by May 17th! ::yes::

They are sneakers, just thicker heels so the skates (that I removed) can fit inside... it is probably easier to see them and understand but I'll be sure to ask him if they are bothering at all. We are all wearing in a new pair of sneakers now in prep for the trip.

In my experience they are very strict with the height requirements. They will measure to the head, not the hat or pony tail and the measuring sticks are made to allow for shoes.

I have seen the CM's ask the child to remove shoes with obviously high bottoms or heels. Be aware that a child may pass through the first test to enter the line only to be re-checked at boarding. I have seen many a child meausre up at the entrance or sneak through somehow only to be re-measured at boarding and not allowed to ride.

Bottom line if the child dosen't meausre tall enough they won't make an exception.

When my dd's were borderline tall enough we approached the trip as if they were not tall enough. If they measured up it was a bonus rather than a dissapointment if they didn't touch the stick. I have also had a child who was tall enough for Space Mountain one morning and the same day, same child, same shoes wasn't even close later that evening. She took in in stride and was able to ride later in the week!!

Have a great trip.
