44 Days to go and I have a problem

Listen to your heart, your head wins too often anyway! Go and enjoy, in my view things are meant to happen. So I'm sure it's for the best.

If you're all stressed about finding a new job nothing will happen, or you'll go for something you don't feel good about because you feel you 'need' to have a job.
If you relax, take time out and let things happen the best job for you will be there for you.

Like other people have said, you only live once! By the time my dad retired and he and mum could finally do all the things they wanted to do, my mum was too ill to travel....

Good luck!

Definately go. At this late stage with only 44 days left you might not get your money back as you don't know for definate or not that you are one of the redundancy people.

This holiday may be just what you need to keep your mind activate and worry about real world problems when you go back.

Hope you manage to get things sorted.

Yes, me too - especially when I was working.
Go, if you can, and have a lovely time :jumping1:

I would definitely go as life is way too short to put things off for another time!

I am so sorry to hear your news. Go on holiday and enjoy yourself - you said it yourself even the thought of cancelling is depressing you - so please do go.

I hope you find another job soon.

Hi

I would go definately being made redundant would make me more want to go just so that I have something to look forward to and all that saving was for nothing. Go and enjoy yourself. Can you do temporary work whilst looking for a perm position. I did this whilst I was made redundant and it just gave us a little extra until I found my job one month later. It all depends if you get a good redundancy package to whether you need to temp.

Good luck and go! You certainly deserve it!

I agree with everyone. Go. You'll love it and then come back feeling more positive and no doubt you will soon get another job.

I'm with the general consensus of opinion here too, go while you still can, look for ways to cut down on expenditure whilst you're there if you have to or maybe change your accommodation to a cheaper choice or something, if you don't go at all you will regret it, go and enjoy it then concentrate on a new career when you get back, as long as there's no real risk of you losing your home or car or something then go, on a budget and enjoy

I'm with the majority here, go, have a fantastic time and sort things out when you get back. If you don't go you'll be worried AND miserable so jump in with both feet and live life to the full.

Fingers crossed on the job front when you get home (or perhaps before you go!) :sunny:

Myself and DH have just been in exactly the same situation, it's tough but it usually works out well, I found a much better position during my notice period and wish i'd moved on earlier, DH kept his position but has since resigned for a much better offer. We used our redundancy to pay for next years holiday and don't forget if you have insurance on your credit cards, loans etc that may kick in if you do get made redundant.
In my opinion Pack and Go, Enjoy and figure out the rest when you come home, you'd kick yourself if you cancelled and then found a new job before you went. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi all,

I've got 44 days to go until our long awaited trip. On arrival at work this morning I find out I'm one of 25 people who won't have a job in 3 weeks time.

Friends and family have advised me to cancel trip and get my money back, in case I can't find another job before I go. I was taking my niece with me and I discussed it with her and she will go along with whatever I decide.

My sensible head says to cancel and rebook for next year - But my heart wants to go. I've spoken to my travel agents and they have advised me to let them know my decision asap. I'm in a tizzy trying to make a decision, the thought of not going is depressing me.

Can anyone offer some advice please.

Thanks - Maureen4200040
:flower: my advise would be to still go you only live once so enjoy it its all booked dont be disappointed if you dont go youll only wish you had so go go go go :jumping1:

Maureen - I wish you all the best :)

I don't feel I can give advice without knowing your circumstances.

I would not be able to go if it meant I would be worried about having no job to return to and bills to pay off that I had no money to pay with.

I have everything crossed for you to get a new job and be able to go as planned :goodvibes

i would go !! :rolleyes1 dh prob wouldn't tho

good luck in finding a new job

This is what i would do too :teeth: but DH would keep his sensible head on and cancel.

I hope you manage to get a new job soon. Like the others said if you can afford to, and you would be able to forget about a job and enjoy your holiday, then go and have a great time :cool1:

Presumably, with only 44 days to go, the holiday's paid for? :flower:
You'll have to eat etc here so, IMHO, you should go and, if necessary, work to a budget, helped along by all our friends on the DIS budget board  :disrocks:

Its the hidden problem in the UK today, there are many more people being made redundant than the govt wants to admit. I was made redundant in the automotive industry in May, but was one of the lucky ones to be in a new job in June.
If you have redundancy protection on your mortgage and credit cards, don't worry.

Thanks for all your replies so far.

I've still not decided what to do yet. I've had so many problems getting this trip off the ground from last year, that's why i don't really want to cancel it. I keep getting the waste of money thing from my nearest and dearest. I'm getting P... off having to keep pointing out that its my money that has paid for this trip, so i can go anywhere i choose to go.

I've contact a couple of temp agencies today, and will be going to see them over the next couple of days. I'm trying to cover all my options. I hoping that if i go to orlando, and i have'nt secured a job before i leave - i can at least start tempting when i get back up until christmas, then start looking probably in the new year.

I'll keep you all inform of my decision by the end of the week. Thanking you all again for your support and advice.

sending happy thoughts your way

:wave2: Hi all,

Just a quick up date on my travel plans. I've decided that i will go to Orlando in September. Only two weeks left at work now. I'll use the time before we go chilling out and doing last minute things for our trip.

Once we come home from our holiday, i will hopefully start full-time work with the job agency. They think I'll have no trouble getting temp work so fingers crossed.

Thanks again for all the advice.
