My friend's 40th birthday is coming up. I need budget ideas for a 40th birthday cake. I'm not into Grimm Reaper or over the hill ideas (kinda mean and I know when it's my turn I will be paid back). I want a fun cake that is pretty budget friendly. I thought of getting a plain (frosted) cake from Sam's and decorating it myself but with what?

What does you friend like?

I am turing 40 in 10 days and for me the big 4 - 0 is no different than any other birthday. I am hoping I get my traditional black forest cake. :)

I'd probably decorate it with things your friend likes. Like pp said, the age doesn't matter as much as getting a cake I like. And not being reminded how old I am by it. ;)

I turned 40 last year, and i am fortunate enough to have a sister that decorates cakes. My sisters had a party for me that was Disney themed, so i had a cakes to represent all for disney parks. My point is... What is the friend into? What do they like?

When my husband turned 50 - his cake had the phrase 'Aged to Perfection"

The design on the cake was a picnic table - grape vines in the background, and there was a bottle of wine on the table - as well as a "round" of cheese.

I don't have the pics of DH's on this computer - so I can't post anything right now.

On line - this is just random cakes with the same "Theme":

We have a local bakery that does amazing, huge pound cakes! They sell them iced in white for less than 15.00. You could look for that sort of thing at a bakery and then add plastic figures of whatever them you wish or even cover it it with silk flowers.

I turned 40 in Nov. and my theme was "40 and Fabulous" I had pink and white decorations, along with a cupcakes put into cake shape.
