For the ones who have brought and use dvc as 40 years of prepaid vacation.Do you go to other places or do you still just stay within the dvc?I would like to know about other places you have visited. We are thinking about buying but we don't just want to do disney. We would do it every other year. Thanks

Since we just spent 9 nights at Wilderness Lodge in Oct we rolled over last years points to this year. We joined DVC in Nov after we returned home from WL. With the combined points DH, DS and myself are cruising on the Disney Magic Nov 30th Eastern Caribbean. Oct next year we may return to VWL - first time "home".

We became members in Oct of 2000.

Last year we spent 7 nights at BWV.

We also used our points to stay two nights at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island during June (It was a wonderful time).

This February we will be returning to Florida, spending two nights at VB and five nights at BWV.

We do plan on using points to go to Hawaii in a couple of years.

Your thoughts were our concerns before buying into DVC... But now since being members for a number of years the sense of "MUST DO DISNEY EVERY YEAR" isn't as strong as before we signed the ownership papers...

The points give you valuable alternatives to just your home resort. And when you figure out the points cost vs. the actual lodging costs, your savings are still likely to be 30% or more.

We have a Disneyland / Calif. Adventure vacation planned for this spring and are extending it a few days in Santa Monica (Concierge Collection hotel) -- all using DVC points.

Also, there's Disneyland Paris on points, or any of the places in Concierge or Passport collections which are all over the globe!

And of course some years you may want to take a non-DVC related vacation (just bank your points for later use OR consider "selling" some points to friends or family).

We love DVC to stay at WDW. I wouldn't buy with the expectation of using DVC for non DVC stays. Simply buy less points and look at other alternatives for the off years.

We did the Magic last July and loved it. We would love to go more often of course to WDW. DH does not have much vacation time. Because of this and not having enough points - it gives us a chance to try other places. This year since we have no points :( we will be going to Pawleys Island in Myrtle Beach. We are planning the west. carib cruise for July 03 and a stay at OKW right after - can't wait.

Deans right. If you want to go to WDW every other year, buy 150 points and have 300 to use EOY. Then in the off years, go other places. A 2nd decent trading timeshare could give you 2 weeks someplace in the off DVC years......spruce

Having just received my 3 DVC maintenance bills, I don't consider DVC to be 40 years of prepaid vacation :)
