40 Weeks and Still No Baby! Help (UPDATE)

I was induced, but we tried a few things to get me to ripen for it. I think the most helpful things were Pineapple, a vigerous exam and that other thing that I won't get again for another month! ;)

Best of luck!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Oh she is beautiful and Liliana would have been my last child's name if he was a she. Gorgeous!

At 40 weeks I was so uncomfortable with no sign of labor, so my midwife gave me castor oil to drink, and I went into labor that night.

:scared: Gack! I was working in Labor & Delivery one night when a woman came in about mid-way dilated. She had taken castor oil early in the evening, then went into labor around midnight. That poor girl had diarrhea all night long. She was miserable. I determined that no matter WHAT, I was never taking that vile stuff.

So, when I was carrying #2 and went about 5 days overdue I looked like a whale. I carried low--my baby could just about pick up quarters off the sidewalk. The pressure had been almost unbearable from 6 months on. So I was desperate. My mother, also an L&D nurse, told me an old wive's tale--stand out in the yard and show your tummy to the moon. Tell the baby it's time to come and you will be holding her soon. Before you go to bed, meditate on rivers, fountains, ocean waves, and tell the baby again that it is safe to come. :rolleyes1

Haha. The laugh was on me. I went to bed at 11:30 and woke up in labor at 2am. :yay:

Good luck. Sooner or later the baby is bound to come. And by the way, I didn't think induction was bad at all. I had it with my first and I was able to go over 24 hours with no meds or epidural. The other two came naturally and I had slow, easy labors both times.

Walk, walk,walk
My son was due on the 8th of Oct but the doc said it wouldn't be anytime soon. I went shopping with my mom at a large mall the next day and went into labor that evening. He was born on the 10th.

At 40 weeks I was so uncomfortable with no sign of labor, so my midwife gave me castor oil to drink, and I went into labor that night. But it was a loooooong, hard labor and my baby's head was transverse, not straight down, so I eventually had a C-sec after he wouldn't/couldn't move his head down for over 20 hours. I have a feeling that we rushed him he wasn't ready, and if I waited a bit longer before taking the castor oil, his head may have moved into position naturally.

As long as there's no sign of fetal distress, maybe it's best to just let nature take it's course.:confused3

Castor oil is not recommended because it can make your baby release meconium, which can cause complications.

So im now 40 weeks with my third child and this little bugger will not make a move. I went into preterm labor with him at 22 weeks and have been pretty much on bed rest up until 34 weeks when I got the all clear that we were both safe. I guess all of the medication I was on worked too well because he is enjoying his little room a bit too much. ;) I have been 3cm and 50% for 2 weeks now with contractions comming and going. The ob says he is still sitting pretty high up and thats why the contractions arent doing anything because he is not low enough to thin me out. I have an appointment for Thursday for an induction but would prefer to go on my own.
What tips or suggestions does everyone have to get this show on the road? We have tried a few of the "common ones" but nothing. PLus in this heat im having a hard time walking outside too much. Thanks for the help

When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I had child birth classes with another woman and we were both due the middle of June. My daughter was born in May and her daughter was born in July (no June babies).

When I was pregnant with my second daughter, they made me quit work end of August because I was starting to dilate and she wasn't due until October 1st. Well, around the 1st of October, she was still hanging in there, so I starting walking every night trying to get her to decide to come -- I ended up being induced on October 17th. These babies have a mind of their own.

Me, too, but I didn't want to mention that part!

I was a week late with my first so I was determined that wouldn't happen with my second. I ate a whole bag of black licorce (it's suppose to be similar to castor oil effect) and at 7am the next morning I was in labor .... not sure if it was the black licorce or that I was due. Til this day (3.5 years later) I still can't eat black licorce

Oh Sarah -- she's beautiful! Congrats.

It might happen anyway. DH pointed out to me that I had. The doctor made it worse by saying "it's not the first time she has". I was in too much pain to care, honestly. Apparently it is quite common and nothing to be ashamed about. At least that's what they told me. :lmao:

Yes, when my son was born, there was meconium in my amniotic fluid.

There was meconium with my second son, too, but I didn't take caster oil. It might have happened even if you hadn't taken it, but it makes your chances go up.

So we had another doctors appt today and still no progress. We are set for an inductions tommorow morning at 6am where they are going to break my water and give me pitocin (sp?)
Thanks for all of the well wishes and advise everyone has shared this past week or so. We had A LOT of fun trying a few of them out! :rotfl2: I will let everyone know how it all works out when I get back from the hospital either Sat or Sunday!

Good luck. I remember when my dr was going to induce me he had me go for a non stress test and told me he would induce me the next day....I went that night. Perhaps you will be lucky. Have you had pitocin before? I it is not any worse than regular labor but I was so sick of being in labor I kept telling the nurse I was getting pains when I was not....she was NOT fooled because she was monitoring me ...she kept turing up the the PIT. LOL!

Dang! Good LUCK! Hope it all goes smoothly!

It won't be long now! Best wishes for you all.

He could still come on his own:goodvibes DD12 was a drama queen from teh get go--she was 11 days late. I was scheduled for an induction at 6:00 (she had not dropped yet--I had been at 3 cm for a month). I woke up at 12:30 with a back ache. Half an hour later she quite suddenly dropped (visible instantly:eek:) and the first contraction hit. Just under an hour later she was born. Maybe your little guy just wants to make an exciting entrance also:confused3 either way best of luck (my second was induced because I really didn't want to have another one in the bathroom doorway:lmao: and it went just FINE).

Good luck to you. I hope your labor progresses quickly! In the midst of it, try to remember that it won't last forever. And it will all be worth it!

Good luck tomorrow. I had the same thing happen to me. Just a word of warning, it's VERY rare, but I had a reaction to the pitocin. It made me extremely nauseaus. If you begin feeling sick, please let your nurse know so they can give you something for it. And FWIW, my labor was 8 hours (from the time he broke my water, until the time she was born). How's that for quick?! :woohoo:

Good luck! I hope that you'll go on your own overnight. My dr was going to induce me because my BP was high and getting higher each time we went in. We saw the doctor Friday and she said I'm on call on Tuesday if you want me to deliver your baby! I really did want her out of all the doctors and sure enough, 11:45pm Monday night my water broke. We avoided the induction and got the doctor we wanted. I know you said you didn't want to walk because of the heat, but we walked ALL weekend long and went on a huge walk Monday after dinner.

I was a week late. The day before I was born my Nana said to my Mom "come on, we're going to walk this baby out of you." And they went shopping.
