40% room-only discount, add DDP later & lose discount?

I've seen a LOT of conflicting info on this so I wanted to clarify.

If we book a deluxe w/40% off room-only code, we can add the DDP and tickets to it by calling but it would have to be changed to a package at that point. When they change it to a package, does the original 40% off discount still apply?

Yes the 40% off will still apply as long as rooms are available. I don't think you'll have a problem just turning your room only into a package. But anything is possible.

However, we had a package booked a couple of years ago, and when a special came out, we could not use it b/c the resort we were staying at didn't have any rooms available with that discount. We couldn't even cancel the room we had and rebook with the special. The problem some people run into is when they try to add a discount to an existing package, which isn't always able to be done. And that's why disney states "Book eary, rooms are limited."

Last week I talked to a CM about adding on QSDP before we leave in Oct. and she said I could call and add it up to 48 hrs before arrival.

Our reservations are 40 % off the room at the Poly, we added the tickets (will upgrade to APs when we are there :woohoo: ) and also added the QSDP to it all.

So, yes, it can be done.

It shouldn't be a problem keeping the 40% off room only discount and adding tickets and dining. BUT...they are 2 seperate creatures. So any money you have on a room only will need to be refunded. They will not apply/transfer the money from one to another. You will then need to book a new reservation that will require a new $200 deposit (or payment in full if you are within 45 days). To make it a little easier may I recommend booking the 40% off room rate with 1 day tickets? This would require a $200 deposit, but you will officially have a package. Then 3 days before you arrive you can call and add the dining (which will be need to be paid in full) and you can upgrade your tickets to whatever you need when you arrive. :)

If I can book the 1 day tickets when booking the discounted room, I could instead go ahead and book the tickets we want also, right? And also add DDP right then? I'm interested in having everything paid in advance so I'd rather just set it all up at the same time and pay for it.

Absolutely. The only *advantage* of doing it the way I suggested is that it breaks up the amount due in full at 45 days. You can certainly add the tickets and dining that you want when you book it and pay for it in full at 45 days. :)

Just because the discount is called 'room only' doesn't mean that's all you can book. I've booked w/ room only 40% discounts for the last 2 years and I've added my hoppers and my dinning plan when I booked - no problem. You still get your 40% off your room and your package is booked, too.:)
If you play around online, it'll let you do this as well, go in through the room discount/special offers square and put in your dates, choose from the available resorts and it'll give you the option of adding park tickets. Once you check on park tickets it will give you the option of adding dinning.

What would be the difference between room-only w/added stuff and a package then? I know they differ in how they're booked, deposit amounts and when they're due but...how else?

There is no "room only w/added stuff." That's a package.

When you get a 40% "room-only" discount, and book a package with it, it means that only the room portion of the package is discounted. Tickets and dining plan are not.

Does that make sense?

This is a great thread, I was wondering the same thing myself.

So, if I already have a packaged reserved (room, tix and DP) and a room-only discount is published, as long as those rooms are still available, I could apply the discount to the room portion of my package, right?

This is making my head hurt! I am so glad you're all here to answer these questions!

Thanks!

Right. Or, if your room isn't available, you could change the room category or resort to one to which the discount applies. That's considered a modification of a package and shouldn't cause any difficulties.

That's what I did when I received this PIN. We had a MYW package with DDP, 6 day Park Hoppers, and 7 nights at ASMo. I called to see about the pin and I could have either saved a bit of money by staying at the Movies (offer was 15% off), moved to ASMu, ASSp, or POP and saved 30% on the rooms, or upgraded to POR, CBR, or CSR for an extra $124. POFQ was offering a lesser percentage savings...I think it was 25%.

So, my original package 7 nights, 6 day park hopper, Disney Dining Plan @ ASMo for $2141 is now 7 nights, 6 day park hopper, Disney Dining Plan @ POR for $2265. My reservation number is the same and everything is entered correctly...I've checked my ressie since then.
