40% off code

*if* I was lucky enough to get a code, do I have to book through Disney to use it? If I buy tickets from UT, and look for rooms elsewhere, etc. (in other words, make my own "package") can I still find it?

Clear as mud??:rotfl2:

It was in my mail, first code I have ever received. I booked 4 trips off the dates it was good for.

We were there a few weeks ago and there is a bounceback program going on for time in Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec. 40% of DVC units, 30% off deluxe rooms

how do you get one?

Have a look at this thread "Everything We Know about Discount Codes"
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1686236

I also want to know how you ask. Do you just call and say. "Are there any discounts attached to my name?". Please help Dbf and I are not very confrontational people who embarrass easy. Do we both need to call or can I call for him?

Used to be they would look this up for you. Too many people were calling too frequently and it was deemed to be an 'unproductive use of call center staff time' -- so now you must have the email or postcard in hand and quote the code to the rep on the phone. :confused3

i called central reservations yesterday & asked if there was a code attached to my name & she said they JUST had a meeting about it & that they dont look it up like that & its only thru emails...she said they have been getting LOTS of calls

so now im confused.....did i get someone who knows or doesnt & what email should i be looking for???

See above. You're looking for an email from "Disney Destinations" or a postcard in the mail you really can't mistake for anything else.

Code discounts can be booked thru most travel agents including places like AAA Travel or Dreams Unlimited. You can usually book room only and get your own tickets etc -- or you can book a complete package with the code. The code only discounts the room portion of your stay. Tickets and any other optional items (ie: Dining) are at the normal rate.

You cannot stack discounts. For example, you cannot use the 40% off discout AND get free dining. Only one discount per reservation.

I hope this helps. Again the thread I referenced at the top of this reply really contains a lot of info on codes and discounts... it's worth a look.

I don't understand something...I got a post card and a special pin. It looks like I got it because I requested a DVD. In order to get my code, I had to type a special URL with my name and special code. So, I type it in to reveal the very special deal exclusively set aside for my family which is...

a standard value resort during value season for $82 a night...

Ummmmm isn't that the rack rate? Am I missing something. Does Disney think I am an idiot?

Now it also says "OR if your dates are flexible, use the pin for 20% off the non discounted rack rate during specific dates...

I just don't understand...somebody help!!!

:confused3

When you asked for the vacation planning DVD, you entered specific dates that you were interested in traveling to Disney.

For THOSE dates, rack rate is the best they can offer.

If you can be flexible on your dates .. you can save up to 20% off the rack rates for that time period.

Really you should probably call the number on the mailer and ask for more specific details. Im' surprised, usually there's more information under that big 82$ number that specifies the date ranges where the 20% is applicable.

Yes, there was a list of specific dates for the 20%

If what you are saying is true, that is not cool. Disney is not vey nice. "You are special to us so we offer you the worst possible deal we can". I don't think I like them anymore...

It's based STRICTLY on the dates you selected as "your preferred time to visit"... It's all automated. I'ts not like they're thinking "Oooh Huskies90, let's hit him with the rack rate.. " ;)

Had those dates fell within one of the date ranges noted -- then you would have been shown that rate. Regardless, if you can change your dates, you can get the offer!

That's good news .. right?

Got around to calling and they said no codes attached. :( Sheasked if I was expecting something, I said we had gotten a postcard in the mail last year and were optimistic, she said well thats like a lottery. :rotfl:

Wow, they must have just started that... thank goodness I called in when I did! There just happened to be a 40% off code attached to my dad's name, that we had no clue about. He never got an email, and a postcard wouldn't have been much use -- he's blind! And from what I understand, there have been a bunch of other people who never received emails or postcards, but who somehow had codes attached to their names when they called. If Disney is going to suddenly require use to produce proof of the code we received, then they should first come up with a better system of sending this stuff out!

And like everything that has to do with the Disney Reservations Center -- you will get about 4 different answers on 4 different calls.

Some reps are still doing the look ups and others will flat out refuse.

Frustrating as all get out.. but if there's one thing that's consistent, it's the lack of consistency...

:confused3

I don't know about that...It clearly said it was a very special offer just for me, Huskies90...

Actually, the dates that I entered did fall into the 20% range of dates. Which is very weird.

uuugh!!!!!!!!!! I just called. My name wasnt in the system but my fiance's was. He had a 20-30% code for travel but CM had to put in ressie to know which % it was. BUT the dates we wanted were Blocked out-FIGURES! I had her put my name on DF acct. I asked how often do codes come out and she said try again in May or june. So bummed. I plan on checkingout AAA. DF has an acct so i have to wait for him to go with me. He's on call so i'm hoping he makes it home on time today.

If you do get a code can you apply it to a reservation you already have where you paid full price?

And mine said it was a very special offer for the "Knox Family" ... but it's not very special. It's all generated by a computer. No humans are involved in reviewing my offer or whatever.

What's most important is that your check-in date is within those date ranges. If your check-in date is OFF by even one day.. then it won't automatically pick up the corrected rate.

Any anomalies with this can be explained by the 'completely done by a computer' and never checked by a human..

I've received these offers before too, and the last time I received one my check-in date was one day BEFORE the discounted rates kicked in.

Yes with a couple of buts... First off.. when I called to apply the code for my December 2007 stay, I had to change my date of arrival .. and when I did so, I was able to take advantage of the discounted room rate...

I did however also have to change resorts. I was booked into Pop Century originally but for my dates, the only resort with availability on the discount code was All Star Sports.

Hope this info helps...

We do not have a Disney Visa, did not order a DVD vacation planner etc...but I got one of the 40% postcards in the mail but we were unable to plan our trip for any of the dates offered with the kids school schedules..I do know with our card at least you had to book by March 31st..

The window dates on our card were:

Jan.6-Jan.17, 2008
Jan.20-Jan.31,2008
Feb.24-March 5, 2008
March 30-April 8, 2008
Aug.10-Sept.27, 2008
Oct.19-Nov.1, 2008
Nov.9-Nov.15, 2008
Dec.7-Dec.17, 2008

They do have a disclaimer by all of the date listing that qualifies "Most Nights".

We got the same postcard. I don't have a disney visa and I haven't been to MK since the 80's, but I think I may have ordered a Disney cruise DVD a long time ago. We booked right away. The discount was only good on certain rooms at certain deluxe resorts. At any rate we are going to the WL Dec. 7th and are saving a bundle on a courtyard view bunkbed room.:cool1:

I get a lot of e-mails and letters from Disney that, in the past, I've always just glanced at and tossed out if I didn't have a trip planned. Last year for the first time I actually started reading them and realized they are discount codes. You can bet I'll be paying closer attention now. I'm hoping for a 40% off code for next fall, during the free dining time.
You cannot use a 40% off code and free dining at the same time. Sorry! You have to pick one or the other.

If you do get a code can you apply it to a reservation you already have where you paid full price?

I just got my postcard. It said like someone else mentioned it was a special offer just for my family. Well I go to the website listed on the card and it gives me the same rate I'm already paying :headache: But tells me if I can be flexible with my dates I can get 30% off. Great if your dates are flexible but mine aren't because we have to go either during DD's fall or spring break.

Not sure what got me the postcard but I did register on the disney website when I was checking dates and prices. I also ordered a DVD and very recently some maps. And I do have a Disney Visa.

If you call and ask we will look up if you have a code attached to your name. it really is a random thing.

I recall someone saying they had called multiple times to keep checking - until finally they were told they did have a code attached. Would that indicate that its not only random but randomly changing or did they get tired of them calling and decide to give them one?
