My 4 yr old DD has had a fever since yesterday at 7am. It has been fluctuating between 103 and 100 since then. She will be seeing her Dr. tomorrow but I am a NERVOUS wreck. She is usually a very healthy child so when she becomes sick I panic. I have been giving her Tylenol every 4 hours. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

As long as the tylenol is making her fever come down some (by a few degrees) the tylenol is doing its job. Just keep her well hydrated and comfortable. I hope she feels better soon. :grouphug:

Nope. If the Tylenol is taking care of the temp, there really is nothing else to do. Give ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) if the Tylenol fails you. Also, putting your child in a tub of tepid water, not really warm but not cold, will help lower her temp. Always remember plenty of fluids.

My SIL is an ER nurse and always recommends alternating tylenol and ibuprofen to help bring a fever down. I hope she feels better soon.

Alternate motrin and tylenol and give plenty of fluids, a lukewarm bath will help bring her temp down. remember that a fever is the body's way of fighting infection.

Motrin works better at knocking out a fever than tylenol does.

Just be careful not to overmedicate her.

A fever is the body's way of fighting whatever cold she's contracted, it's not a bad thing in and of itself.

Fevers are only a concern when the body cannot regulate them and they go too high.

If it goes over 104 with medication, call a ped right away. Otherwise, try not to worry too much.

I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night...

Both my son's have had viral things that were like that. Of course, your doc can tell you better, but alternating the Motrin and Tylenol is what my doc recommended too. When it was viral, we just had to wait it out -- and depending on the child, it could take up to 5-6 days to run it's course.

I'm like you though -- I hate it when my boys are sick. I hope she feels better soon.

Also, don't forget to dress your daughter lightly -- lightweight jammies and not much for blankets at night.

DD had this last weekend. She ran a fever of 102 to 103 for 24 hours straight. She also had body aches and a headache (so of course the doc freaked me out mentioning menegitis :faint: ). I alternated between ibuprofen adn tylenol and did the tepid bath to make her more comfortable. At the 24 hour mark, everything disappeared like magic!

Hope your sweetie feels better soon!

I have to add that doctors generally say to wait 5 days for a low grade fever to break and it usually does---But if it hits 105 take her in---Better safe than sorry

Motrin and Tylenol work 2 different ways so it is safe to have both in the system--I usually start with Tylenol then 1/2 hour later give the Motrin

I recommend motrin. My dd`s dr. says it lasts longer than tylenol. Here`s some pixiedust: so your dd feels better. My dd has an ear infection this week. :sad2:

:wave2: I just wanted to thank everyone who replied to my question about my daughter's fever. It started on Thursday at 7am and lasted until Saturday 7am. On Saturday we had a Dr. apt. and while we were waiting in his office she began to break out in a rash starting on her torso. The fever caused the rash aka roseola. This rash lasted from Saturday until Tuesday and spread from her torso to her legs and up to her face. As of today she is back to normal and so am I. With a lot of prayers and adivce we are all doing fine. So once again THANKS TO ALL OF YOU for your great advice and encouragement. :thumbsup2
