I second this response . We love doing the character meals, especially the breakfast ones. My kids are 10 and 8 and they still want to do them. In fact when we go for our Aug/Sept trip, they will be 11 and 9 by that time, we told them they could plan out our ADRs for our 12 night stay (of course some tweaking by DH and I may occur). They want to go to all the character meals that Disney offers except the H&V one since they don't watch Disney Jr. DH and I are totally fine with that since it allows us to see the characters without having to stand in the lines, plus they come to us we don't go to them....and of course the fact that we all have so much fun at the character meals . Yes I know my family is crazy, but it is Disney and we are allowed to be crazy there .
We did 10 character meals in 7 days on our trip. Every breakfast was a character meal & four of the dinners were character meals. I figured we had to eat anyway, so it would give us time to sit down & cool off. We were able to eat, get autographs, & photos with characters all at one time. I didn't want to spend hours on our first family WDW trip standing in hot lines for autographs & pictures. We had the DxDP, so we didn't have to worry about the cost of the meals once we got there. You are not crazy!
Chef Mickey's - dinner
Crystal Palace - before park opening
Cape May - brunch and then shopping in DTD before our plane leaves
We are going during Spring Break, so I am glad that we won't have to wait in lines to see the characters. Plus, we are on free dining, so the cost is not a factor.
My boys are at the perfect age for character meals. I will miss them myself when we longer go....
on our last trip our dining schedule was very similar to yours, except we didn't decide to go until 3 months out, so we didn't get CRT.
We did Chef Mickey's, Hollywood & Vine, Crystal Palace, Akershus, and Tusker House. We also did 8 am each morning to "beat the crowds" and it was SUPERB. We loved getting in the park before it opened!
Wow, we try to do several each trip. My boys will be 12 and 10 when we go in May. Nothing like getting to MK, walking up an empty Main St and heading to Crystal Palace for some Mickey waffles and other treats. We all enjoy this breakfast and it wouldn't be the same without Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eyore!
We have done Chef Mickeys and O'Hanas too. We love Lilo and Stitch!
no - not crazy at all. I literally just did it - we did Tuskar House at 8 on friday, crystal palace on saturday, hollywood and vine on sunday at 8 and 1900 park fare on monday. we were on the deluxe plan and thought we'd really take advantage of it. it came with the added bonus of getting to ride toy story and everest with no wait at all. the downside was that we have small kids too and they definitely needed a nap due to getting up and out SO early every day. on sunday, even with the long nap, they both fell asleep on us and we were barely able to take advantage of the extra magic hours - still, it was a blast. ENJOY!
As others have attested, you aren't crazy. We did (at least) 5 of them our last trip, and without any kiddos tagging along, either. It had been nearly 20 years since my previous trip and I wanted to take gobs of Disney pictures.
The only problem I have with table service is that you have to work your park activities around the meals. However, since you start the day with breakfast, this becomes a non-issue in your scenario.
IMO, starting the four days with character meals seems like a good way to start the days and making your heart sing Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.
Someone commented on getting to enjoy some rides after breakfast with no wait. If we have the first reservation time for breakfast (at Tusker House and H&V specifically for us), what is the likelyhood of getting out before park opening and getting to the rides before the crowds? We are going in end of July, so it will be pretty crowded early I assume.
