Just checking in and WOW the activity is great. It will take me a bit to catch up with all the new posts. We booked a Category 12 and did receive an upgrade to a category 9.

:cheer2::cheer2:

I think that it really depends on the type of cruise and how it is selling. Because if this was a 4 day on the Wonder, this kind of upgrading really would not be happening...Plus, even though obviously I've had great luck with this one, in the future if we are traveling with our kids we cannot gamble...we have to book something definite, as we have 4 kids and won't risk being separated.. So perhaps booking popular cruises would be smart onboard, but waiting for those that might be iffy until closer to the cruise and take a chance. Fact is, they are still selling every category. And a domino effect would make them move many more people...plus moving people that specifically chose their cabins for a reason and might call and be annoyed and ask to be moved back. GTY is a benefit for those of us that got a deal, and for Disney because they can put us anywhere they need to fill space. Think about it...if they did a domino effect, they would have to systematically move SO MANY people to accomplish their purpose, which is probably to clear out the lower priced categories to try to sell them.

Can you imagine? Someone chooses a particular place gets an unwanted upgrade, so Disney has to try to get their original cabin back. Someone that does't want split bathrooms complains and wants to go back to cat 11. Someone that hates being on deck 2. Someone that can't stand being Forward. It isn't always considered an upgrade when people choose their locations carefully and so far in advance. GTY gives Disney the freedom to do WHATEVER they want...because the guest gave them permission by booking that category. Everyone else that chose a cabin, Disney probably assumes chose it for a reason, and probably hates to disturb that, because that in itself could cause a really negative domino effect.

We did not have a GTY and did select our room purposefully and were upgraded. Although it is just a few doors down as I look at the room online I am now concerned about the amount of storage space for clothes. We had a cat 9 room once and noticed the armoire was much more narrow so I could not put as much in it as I can in the one in our cat 10 room. I think the layout for cat 5 is the same. This makes me want to change back to our original room but the kids are excited about the verandah. 11 days worth of clothes with less storage space or happy kids- tough choice and do I even have one.

CAT 10's and 4's are the only CAT's with the double steamer trunk.

Yes, lots of people on the TA that had picked rooms were also given upgrades.

Exactly my point...you chose a room for a reason, and were moved, and you aren't sure if you are happy and the thought even came to you to try to move back. Multiply that by hundreds and that is what Disney would deal with if they systematically "upgraded" those that have specific cabins. Thanks for posting that! GTY is easier for them to put wherever, because those clients were nowhere to begin with.

I'm actually not sure Disney's thought process on this is that deep...but that SEEMS to be the reasoning. Who really knows...Mickey could be just pushing random buttons :rotfl:

I think that you may be on to something with the idea of this being completely random. Given what others are saying there truly is no rhyme or reason to the changes that are made. I spoke to a TA I know who books a lot of cruises and she said that upgrades are normally assigned to frequent cruisers and on a domino effect to fill all empty cabins but this is clearly not what Disney does. If people don't communicate than it winds up being a magical surprise but with this forum it is creating anger at the company which I truly do not believe is their intent.

No matter what I expect this to be a fabulous opportunity to see the Mediterranean at a great price and I know from past experience that the amount of time you spend in the room is minimal and with this busy an agenda it will be even less.

We now have a cabin assignment. We expected a cat. 12 and got an 11. Can't complain. We all sleep better in an inside cabin. We are 3, so we don't need a split bath. The location suits us well (near Flounders & BV Theatre). Mid-ship would have been better, but you can't have it all.

Anybody have any ideas on creating more places to put clothes if you have the single steamer trunk, 4 people and a woman who is a clothes and shoe fiend (me)?

We love deck 5. The grey space is staff areas. No one really knows what goes on behind those areas, LOL

We have used these in the past and loved them. We have also purchased canvas shoe organizer that goes over the door that we put on the bathroom doors. Grandma and the girls have a TON of shoes!

Thanks for the info I was going to ask where to get them and saw the pics are from bed, bath and beyond. I think I have a 20% off coupon lying around somewhere.

I took the pictures from bed, bath and beyond but target, walmart and a few others also have them. Bed, Bath and Beyond actually has some really nice ones for a good prices. Sometimes that stores prices are really high! :scared1: The place that I found the nicest ones though were Big Lots. It is a crap shot if they have them but it is worth checking.
