4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Didn't I see you were from the St. Louis area or am I confusing you with some one else? We are moving back to STL in September, and I wandered where you were based. We will be checking out areas in April. You can PM me if you prefer not to post.

Yes! I will PM you. You are from STL originally?? My FE gift is something you'll like:)

We are originally from St. Joseph, MO but DH job took us to STL in 2003, where we lived in Hutching's Farm (O'fallon, MO) before accepting an assignment to move to Sydney, Australia in 2007. Now we are trying to decide among schools and communities!

As I am very happy for you and your upgrade I really don't think it is sair to those who booked CAT 9's and up who did not get upgraded. DCL really needs to come up with a better system. This is just CRAZY! Charlotte I know this is going to be a sore spot for you.

Again, congrats on the upgrades but there has to be a better way. Actually there is a better way...it needs to be more of an elevator system...insides to windows, windows to verandah's etc...

I actually agree with you. It makes no sense to me why someone with a cat 9 isn't moved to an 8 and an 8 to a 7 and so on. A domino effect is what makes sense to me and it would be great if Disney would listen to those of us on this side and hear what we have to say. I think at some level they are trying to get people to buy up but from what I've seen it actually encourages people to buy down and expect a free bump up.

Totally agree....that is what it has done for us....we will not be booking onboard anymore and we will not be booking higher cats.

This def has had a big effect on how we will tackle Disney cruises in the future.

Again, congrats to all who have gotten amazing upgrades!

Ooops make that 5 not 15!

That is why YOU need magnets on your door - who knows where you would wind up at night. And we thought it was to help the kiddies recognize their own room. :goodvibes

...All three of the couples (our two "travel with" couples and us) were assigned three cabins in a row, which is exciting by itself, but also Cat 6:cool1:. Yeah, pretty happy.

...Not sure if Jill is participating (Caroline'sMom), she is 6128, I think she said she was participating....

Since it was Jill's parents who don't "do" excursions, maybe they'll need that super cabin :rotfl: just for hanging out.

And yes, she is on the list for FE.

Heehee, yeah you never know with these Australians...they may just go walkabout. :lmao:

What I am surprised at though is that no one has been offered a paid upgrade (at least none that we know of!). I would have thought that Disney would have at least tried that first if the ship really was that empty?!?!?

I think that it really depends on the type of cruise and how it is selling. Because if this was a 4 day on the Wonder, this kind of upgrading really would not be happening...Plus, even though obviously I've had great luck with this one, in the future if we are traveling with our kids we cannot gamble...we have to book something definite, as we have 4 kids and won't risk being separated.. So perhaps booking popular cruises would be smart onboard, but waiting for those that might be iffy until closer to the cruise and take a chance. Fact is, they are still selling every category. And a domino effect would make them move many more people...plus moving people that specifically chose their cabins for a reason and might call and be annoyed and ask to be moved back. GTY is a benefit for those of us that got a deal, and for Disney because they can put us anywhere they need to fill space. Think about it...if they did a domino effect, they would have to systematically move SO MANY people to accomplish their purpose, which is probably to clear out the lower priced categories to try to sell them.

Can you imagine? Someone chooses a particular place gets an unwanted upgrade, so Disney has to try to get their original cabin back. Someone that does't want split bathrooms complains and wants to go back to cat 11. Someone that hates being on deck 2. Someone that can't stand being Forward. It isn't always considered an upgrade when people choose their locations carefully and so far in advance. GTY gives Disney the freedom to do WHATEVER they want...because the guest gave them permission by booking that category. Everyone else that chose a cabin, Disney probably assumes chose it for a reason, and probably hates to disturb that, because that in itself could cause a really negative domino effect.

Chuckle:) They are accompanying us in Naples! I'm psyched. I can't wait to meet the people that raised such a super woman:)

We just logged on to DCL, and found out we had an upgrade! What a surprise. We had figured that an upgrade was not in the cards, as we had selected a catagory 10 secret port hole room. A disney rep had told us that we would probably not receive an upgrade unless we had booked a GTY. She said a GTY for any catagory would lock us into a minimum of the room level selected, and we could wind up anywhere. As we had selected a specific stateroom, we thought we would be left out.

We're now in a catagory 6, Room 6532! WOOHOO!:banana::yay:

Good Luck to all others still waiting for assignments!

Congratulations! Deck 6 must have been empty, they are loading it up!

Julie (skoi) is not the only one who went to Morocco last week. I thought I'd drop in for a photo op:

No, the first posts here were started a very long time ago and they didn't have the opportunity to save the first few posts and then amend them as time went by. (The TA is on thread #4 - we had the best success with thread #3 in terms of getting the info at the beginning). That said, we share a website with some info that might be helpful.

We will have a Meet & Greet before the Life Boat Drill - and free lanyards/name tags, also.

There is an FE gift exchange - one more open slot to make Groups 1 & 2 (12 families each).

With all the ports we're visiting, this thread and bunch of cruisers is focusing on tours, meeting new people to share adventures and perhaps meal tables.

The three Sea Days will be full of DCL activities, which would be great for us to attend in numbers - but we don't have the slate of group meets that you would find on the TA or the Panama Canal crossings with the abundance of Sea Days.

If you would like to participate in FE, just let us know by posting here (or send me a PM).

- Lynne

I was working on the FE groups last night (on the website) - trying to balance # of people, kids, etc. - so don't take them as the LAST WORD - although I doubt I'll do anything more than add the final cabin to each.

- Lynne

The website update is really helpful - thanks Lynne  you've done a wonderful job organising all of this :thumbsup2

Now if only we knew our cabin number......

Just a thought, should we have a plan in place incase there are changes to people cabin numbers between now and boarding? Maybe we could confirm at the 3pm meet?

On our last cruise we had a lot of last minute changes. Some people were told at the port that their room numbers had changed. People who attended the meet let us know then, but some could not make it. So we had a list at one of the staterooms and people just amended that.

Congratulations to people who got upgrades. Still no room assignment here. I am starting to get a bit worried about this with all the upgrades floating about. I for one do not want an upgrade. Well, I would love a category 11 rather than the 12, but definitely nothing higher. I don't do the split bathroom. I am the sort of person who never wins anything or gets anything for free so I thought this was safe enough. Now I am no longer so sure.

The first two of my cruise t shirts arrived yesterday and look great. I am hoping the last one will arrive today. My Xyron is showing as out for delivery as well so I am hoping that this will arrive today as well. Then I have to get going on the magnets to try it out.

Good plan, hopefully the person with the list won't move :lmao: We did this on the Podcast cruise and out of 80 or so participating cabins there were only a couple of moves.

Yeah no room for us yet too :confused3 Seems like a funny thing to say but fingers crossed you don't get an upgrade ;) As long as we make the ship we really don't care where we are :yay: we did a Cat 11 for 4 nights and it was great, loads of room for two of us.

I am finally getting somewhere with my FE gifts!

For those is my FE group (#2) can you please let me know what your favorite winter Olympic sport is?

Thanks
Eleasa
