4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Wasn't too happy with the light blue ring showing. Lost the "porthole" look, now it reminds me of those telescope viewers at tourist locations - for a 3-eyed person. Still don't have the clip art skill to successfully get it into my graphic.

That's awesome Lynne! Think I can talk my DH into going on the B2B just so that I can use that graphic??? :rolleyes1

Love it!

Would like just a small one on the left side of the shirt or sweatshirt. Of course I would like Goofy to be on it too but I will be happy with whatever you choose.

Hello all --

Just read this article this morning, and thought I would share. (Is it wrong that my first thought was....ugh, I hope it's not too crowded in Rome now. LOL.)

At least 1 million expected to see Shroud of Turin

ROME – Officials say more than 1 million people have already reserved a place to see the Shroud of Turin when it goes on display in the northern Italian city for the first time in 10 years.

Major celebrations are shaping up in the Olympic city of Turin when the archdiocese displays the linen cloth from April 10 to May 23. The Vatican says Pope Benedict XVI will be among the visitors.

The shroud is revered by many Christians as Jesus Christ's burial cloth but it is described by some as a medieval forgery.

Turin officials told a news conference in Rome Wednesday that at least 1 million reservations from around the world have already poured in to secure three-to-five minutes to admire the cloth.

My Naples tour is full, but I have another tour with openings:

May 3rd Villefranche
Private guide up to 8 people
I have 2-4 spots left (waiting to see about 2 of them)
to share 600 Euro between everyone

Tour will include:
Visit Nice (market of the old city), the medieval villages of Saint-Paul and Eze, as well as Monaco and Monte-Carlo. We take the most scenic roads to enjoy the best panoramas.

The tour company has an excellent reputation.

Please PM me if you are interested! Thanks!

Rich - But seriously, anything specific you'd like on this?

Apparently, John & Charlotte (Happy Goofy) would also like a little logo to put on a shirt-pocket area. This BTB one might look a bit like a police badge if reduced.

I was just telling my dad that I put all B2B (back to back) info on the Med thread because it doesn't get lost in the daily chit chat (they just don't have as many ports to visit).

Spent hours on the computer last night/this morning working on Florence/Pisa and Naples plans. Put some of the Pompeii info on the website. Still have lots of work to do to figure out our day in Pisa & Florence.

Here's what I'm planning for Naples

Bus/tram/taxi or walk to Naples Garibaldi Central Station (rail)

Circumvesuviana train (Naples to Sorrento) to Pompeii-Scavi-Villa-dei-Mysteri station (across the road from site entrance)

Visit Pompeii site for 2-3 hours with audio tour (no tour guide), allowing Karen to take lots of pictures.

Lunch in Pompeii (need to check out options)

Return train toward Naples, stopping at Herculaneum (halfway back to Naples)

Visit Herculaneum 1-2 hours

Complete train return to Naples

Eat pizza in its hometown (Naples)

Back on boat around 6-7 (leaves port at 9pm)

None of this has to be booked ahead of time (better check on the train, hadn't I? - they say it's more like a commuter train).

If anybody decides they want to come along, just let me know.

Lynne, that sounds good. Just saw the updates on the website. Thanks for all the hardwork.

Well, I just cooked...butter chicken lasagna! Was a in a hurry and grabbed the wrong jar of sauce. Only just realized as I was cleaning up. we shall see if the family enjoys Italian Indian fusion.

More Pompeii train info:

National train lines go from Naples to Salerno and further east and southwards. The Circumvesuviana [2] is a local private train link serving the area around the Mount Vesuvius from Naples to Sorrento. The service has the appeal of typical metropolitan trains connecting to local suburbs (including the odd graffiti and cut open seat/window). For tourists this train service is particularly interesting because it is the only reasonable public transport link to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius. Note: there are several different lines but ONLY THE BLUE LINE goes to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius. Pompeii is in Zone 3 of Campania, and an all-day ticket to (and from) "Zone 3" is €4.50. You can use this ticket to get to Pompeii and to get back to Naples. When going to visit the ruins of Pompeii, get off the train at the Pompei Scavio stop. It's about a 40 minute ride from Naples. The entrance is approximately 50m from the station.

Didn't you notice the color (I assume butter chicken would be sort of yellow-white)? Or do you normally do something other than tomato-based sauce?

The butter chicken was an orange-red and so was the pasta sauce as it was a creamy tomato one.

From http://cruises.about.com/cs/europe/a/florence_2.htm

After touring the gallery, we walked to the Duomo, Florence's cathedral. The cupola dominates the skyline view of the city of Florence. The cupola is an architectural wonder, and was completed in 1436. Brunelleschi was the architect/designer, and the dome served as an inspiration for Michelangelo's St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome and the U.S. capital building in Washington, D.C. The exterior of the cathedral is covered in pink and green marble, and has a wonderful look. Since the interior of the cupola was covered with murals, it reminded me somewhat of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City.

I would like the one you have made already just with the info for the cruise from Spain and back to Spain. And to answer your question...I have 2 more years here in Spain.

Hi everyone! I am currently trying to book a room but I am having a difficult time with Disney. I am trying to use a military discount because my husband is a Marine, but I am being told that he must be traveling with us. That is currently not an option so me and my mom are trying to go. I am wondering if anyone on here has any advice or dealings with Disney that could help me out. Thanks!
